CHASING DOWN THE RECORD BOOKS

SALEM OH- A big misconception about the sport of softball is that anyone who is fast will make a great baserunner.  While it’s true speed is a big advantage, a baserunner must also have high softball IQ to know when to break for the next base, and when to pull on the reigns.  For Salem senior Chase Toy, base running has become second nature.  Toy is arguably one of the best Quakers on the base paths that the program has seen. She has spent her career working on her craft, and now that work is paying off. Toy has been running down records all season long. When it comes to stealing there aren’t too many players who are better.

Toy has both the single season and career base stealing record at Salem.  This season she has stole 31 bases and she has only been caught once.  Toy is also trying to grab the program batting average record for a season.  Obviously you have to get on base to steal bases.  Toy is more proficient at getting on base than anyone that has come through the halls of Salem.  The team captain also maintains fantastic leadership that keeps the dugout feeling like a family.

Chase slowed down for a minute to talk to YSN’s Anthony Hartwig to talk about her career at Salem. Toy talks about her commitment to the craft, her future plans as a business owner, and much more. Check out this exclusive Salem Softball Player Profile exclusively on YSN!
