CHAMPION SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH CHERYL WEAVER

WARREN OH- There aren’t too many programs in Northeast Ohio that have as much prestige and history as the Champion softball team. Cheryl Weaver has been a big part of their sustained success over the years. Under her coaching, the Flashes have won 6 state championships. Because of that you simply never keep Champion out of the conversation.  This year the Flashes bring a healthy roster to the table that shows off a ton of talent.  Champion opens the season on March 29th at Newton Falls, their home opener will be the day after against the same Tigers.

Coach Weaver was kind enough to catch up with Anthony Hartwig to preview the Flashes season.  They talk about being healthy this season, the tradition of Champion softball, and much more. Check out Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with Cheryl Weaver.

CHAMPION SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH CHERYL WEAVER

WARREN OH- Champion softball has built a reputation of success over the years under Cheryl Weaver. They are a legitimate dynasty among the softball world. Weaver has led the Flashes to nine state championship appearances, and six state titles. Including 3 in a row from 2017-2019. Coming off the missed season of 2020 was rough in 2021. The Flashes missed out on the senior seasons of incredible talents, and even better leaders, and then had to throw some young players into the fire. They still made it to the district championship game where they fell to South Range. The Flashes will look to use one more of experience to get back to where they belong this season.

Head coach Cheryl Weaver took the time to talk to the boys of YSN’s Running Point to give us a preview of the season. They discuss team goals, this program’s standards, and much more.

HEADED HOME: CHAMPION LADY GOLDEN FLASHES SOFTBALL PREVIEW

WARREN, OH – We spoke to the head coach for the Champion Lady Golden Flashes, Cheryl Weaver this past week. Coach Weaver is a 6 time state champion as head coach with the school having been to 9 state championships. Key players returning from the 2019 season are captains Emma Gumont, Lauren Fife, Cassidy Shaffer, and Brooklyn Witt. They will look to get these Flashes off to a hot start. Coach Weaver talked to us about the experience some of her girls missed out on with last season being cancelled. Almost all the girls got a chance to play some sort of travel ball and or rec ball into the summer months. Missing the season last year was hard for any team, but Coach Weaver stressed freshman need that first year to get the details of what it takes to play varsity softball. I asked Coach Weaver what does it take to consistently keep playing at a high level year in and out ? Cheryl Weaver responded that it’s the details, harp on the details in practice and make the games simple. That’s the key to success in high school softball. We also imagine talent helps too and the Lady Flashes have plenty of that too.
