CLIPPERS REACH CRUISING ALTITUDE

COLUMBIANA OH- Sam Inboden drove in four runs on two hits to lead Columbiana past Leetonia 17-1 on Wednesday. Inboden singled in the first inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the third inning, scoring two.

Columbiana got on the board in the top of the first inning after Devin Daugherty singled, scoring one run, Alex Eusebio singled, scoring one run, Inboden singled, scoring two runs, Reese Roush drew a walk, scoring one run, and Colin Keleman grounded out, scoring two runs.

A ground out by Inboden, and a single by Cameron Clancy helped Columbiaana extend their early lead in the second. They then scored five runs on five hits in the top of the third inning. An error scored two runs, Inboden singled, scoring two runs, and Clancy drew a walk, scoring one run.

lan Less earned the win for the Clippers. He gave up two hits and one run (zero earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking five. Tatum Finley took the loss for Leetonia. The starting pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, allowing 10 runs (three earned) on five hits, striking out none and walking seven. Keleman threw one inning of zero-run ball for Columbiana in relief. They gave up zero hits, striking out one and walking none.

The Clippers collected 11 hits in the game. Inboden and Daugherty each collected two hits. The team had patience at the plate, accumulating 10 walks for the game. Clancy and Avery Young led the team with two bases on balls each. Keleman, Eusebio, and Inboden each stole multiple bases. The Clippers stole eight bases in the game.

Carson Brock and Ryan Bulford were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Leetonia while hitting back-to-back. Brock stole two bases. The Bears ran wild on the base paths, piling up four stolen bases for the game.

COLUMBIANA SENDS THE SPARTANS BACK HOME

COLUMBIANA OH- Mackenzi Gamble hit two home runs and drove in four as Columbiana defeated Akron Springfield 15-1 on Wednesday. Gamble homered in the second and third innings.

Columbiana got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Gamble singled, Springfield committed an error, and Alaina Johnston singled, each scoring one run. The Clippers then added to their lead with five runs in the bottom of the second inning thanks to home runs by Maryn Hepler, Gamble, and Cameron Perkins.

Five more Columbiana runs crossed the plate in the third inning to extend the lead to 13-1. Caitlynn Pleska homered to right field, scoring three runs, Gamble hit a solo home run to center field, and Ella Dota doubled, scoring one run.

Gamble earned the win for Columbiana. She surrendered four hits and one run over five innings, striking out eight and walking none. Lilli Stokes took the loss for Springfield. The right-handed pitcher went one inning, surrendering two runs on two hits, striking out none and walking one. Joey Klein started the game for Springfield. The right-handed pitcher surrendered 17 hits and 13 runs (11 earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking one.

Columbiana collected 19 hits in the game. Alivia Bell, Gamble, Pleska, and Perkins each collected three hits. Dota and Hepler each collected multiple hits.

CLIPPERS CLAMP DOWN ON HARDING

COLUMBIANA OH- Maryn Hepler drove in five runs on three hits to lead Columbiana past Warren G. Harding 9-1 on Tuesday. Hepler tripled in the second scoring three, doubled in the fourth scoring one, and hit a solo home run to right field in the sixth scoring one.

Mackenzi Gamble struck out 11 batters on the day. The starting pitcher also gave up one hit and one run over six innings while walking three.

A walk by Delanie Riley put the Raiders on the board in the top of the first. Columbiana flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on three hits to take a 6-1 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a triple by Hepler that drove in three. Hepler hit a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the sixth as well.

Karly Trisler took the loss for the Raiders. She went six innings, giving up nine runs on 10 hits, striking out three and walking two. Caitlynn Pleska tossed one inning of zero-run ball for Columbiana in relief. She surrendered one hit, striking out one and walking none.

Columbiana tallied 10 hits in the game. Ava Davanzo and Cameron Perkins each collected multiple hits. They didn’t commit a single error in the field. Perkins had the most chances in the field with 15.

Breasia Butler and Azarriah Phillips each collected one hit for Warren Harding. The Raiders were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Chase Powell made the most plays with eight.

 

CLIPPERS TAKE A PAIR TO END TRIP TO THE BEACH

Columbiana were victorious against Buckeye 4-3 on Saturday. Columbiana got on the board in the top of the first inning after Caitlynn Pleska tripled, and Pleska stole home, each scoring one run.

The Clippers added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Cameron Perkins grounded out, and Pleska hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Sarah Michaels hit an inside the park home run, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth for the Bucks.

Mackenzi Gamble earned the win for Columbiana. She allowed seven hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out eight and walking none. Olivia Matras took the loss for Buckeye. The right-handed pitcher went four innings, surrendering four runs (two earned) on five hits, striking out two and walking one.

Pleska drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Clippers with two runs batted in. The shortstop went 1-for-2 on the day. Ava Davanzo, Alivia Bell, Maryn Hepler, Pleska, and Perkins each collected one hit. Columbiana didn’t commit a single error in the field. Perkins had the most chances in the field with nine.

GAME 2

Alexis Sperling drove in four runs on one hit to lead Columbiana past Hazard 15-5 on Saturday. In the third inning, Sperling hit an inside the park grand slam. The Clippers got on the board in the top of the first inning after Megan Moser singled, scoring three runs, and Alexis Davis drew a walk, scoring one run.

Columbiana extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the second thanks to RBI hit by pitches by Landry Smith and Moser. They added seven more runs in the top of the third inning on four hits. Bella Roush singled, scoring two runs, Sperling hit an inside the park grand slam, and Paige Smith drew a walk, scoring one run.

Peyton Stoy earned the win for Columbiana. She allowed four hits and two runs over three innings, striking out five and walking none. Braylynn Eddington took the loss for Hazard. The right-handed pitcher went two innings, giving up nine runs (eight earned) on four hits, striking out none and walking six. Kyla Hogan began the game for Columbiana. The starting pitcher surrendered five hits and three runs over two innings, striking out one and walking one.

The Clippers amassed 10 hits in the game. Moser led  with three hits in three at bats. Roush collected two hits in three at bats. Columbiana had patience at the plate, accumulating 12 walks for the game.

Davis, Lia Shipe, Hogan, and Smith led the team with two free passes each. The Clippers ran wild on the base paths, accumulating five stolen bases for the game. They also didn’t commit a single error in the field. Sperling had the most chances in the field with six.

CLIPPERS GET FIRST WIN AT THE BEACH

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH SC- Both teams were strong in the circle on Thursday, but Columbiana opened their spring break trip and defeated Moon Area 3-1. Mackenzi Gamble started the game for Columbiana and recorded 21 outs. Gamble struck out 15 batters on the day. She also surrendered six hits and one run over seven innings while walking one.

Moon Area got on the board in the fourth inning after Macy Trost singled, scoring one run. Caitlynn Pleska doubled, which helped Columbiana tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth.

Columbiana took the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the fifth. Kylie Zalin took the loss for Moon Area. They went six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits, striking out three and walking one.

Pleska led the Clippers with one run batted in. The shortstop went 1-for-2 on the day. Alaina Johnston and Cameron Perkins each collected two hits.

Kendall Chambers went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Tigers in hits. Moon Area turned one double play in the game.

EUSEBIO DAZZLES ON DAY ONE

COLUMBIANA OH- Alex Eusebio was dominant on the mound, as he rang up 12 strikeouts in Columbiana’s 5-0 victory over Lisbon on Monday. Eusebio allowed one hit and zero runs over six innings while walking three.

Columbiana got on the board in the third inning after Cameron Clancy singled, scoring one run. Reese Roush threw one inning of scoreless ball for Columbiana in relief. The reliever allowed zero hits, striking out three and walking one.

Dylan Hogan, Colin Keleman, Clancy, Eusebio, and Avery Young each collected one hit for Columbiana. Hogan led with one run batted in. He went 1-for-3 on the day. Columbiana stole five bases in the game.

CLIPPERS MAKING A LOT OF NOISE

COLUMBIANA OH- Columbiana defeated Salem 10-0 on Monday thanks in part to six runs in the fifth inning. Caitlynn Pleska hit a solo home run to right field, Mackenzi Gamble hit a solo home run to center field, Anna Yonker singled, scoring one run, Ella Dota drew a walk, scoring one run, and Lewis induced Cameron Perkins to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

Columbiana got on the board in the first inning after Ava Davanzo singled, scoring two runs.

The Clippers added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Salem committed an error, and Pleska hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.

Gamble earned the win for Columbiana. She gave up one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking none.

Gamble and Pleska were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits. Davanzo and Pleska each drove in two runs. Perkins stole two bases.

Columbiana didn’t commit a single error in the field. Perkins had the most chances in the field with eight.

CLIPPERS MAKE THEMSELVES CHAMPIONS IN THE SECTIONALS

COLUMBIANA OH- The Columbiana Lady Clippers added a Sectional Title to their EOAC Tri Championship Saturday afternoon when they defeated Champion 39-34.  It was a tight game the entire way with Champion jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the early going on three point shots from Kayla Haynie and Kennedy Caldwell.  The Clippers responded by going on an 8-0 run with four points a piece from juniors Ellie Venezia and Averi Marshall to close the first quarter with an 8-6 lead.  Megan Moser’s three pointer late in the 2nd quarter helped Columbiana to take a 17-11 lead into the locker room at the half.

Champion senior Bella Meyer’s five points and junior Addie Warzala hitting on 4 of 4 from the charity stripe got the Flashes back into it in the third.  Columbiana had five players contributing points in the third, led by Evy Rapp’s 4 points and Ava Heinrich going 3-5 on free throws and the Clips took a 30-25 lead into the fourth quarter.  It was more of the same in the fourth quarter as the Flashes were unable to cut into the Clippers lead despite three pointers from Haynie and Meyer.  Columbiana’s Marshall went 4-6 from the line down the stretch with a big free throw from senior Alaina Johnston ultimately putting the game out of reach.

On the day, the Flashes were led by Kayla Haynie’s 11 points.  Junior Bella Meyer contributed 9 points, 5 Rebounds and 2 Blocks.   Columbiana’s Avery Marshall had 14 points and 5 rebounds while Ellie Venezia filled up the score sheet with 9 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists and one block.  Champion closed their season with a record of 18-6 while the Clippers head to Struthers on Wednesday night for a District Semifinal game against Wooster Triway.

CLIPPERS EARN A SHARE OF THE LEAGUE IN THE SEASON FINALE

COLUMBIANA OH- In a pivotal matchup on Friday night, Columbiana seized their chance to claim a share of the EOAC championship, exacting revenge on Lisbon with a convincing 51-39 victory. Led by a balanced scoring effort, Columbiana showcased their depth and determination on the court.

Seth Struharik led the charge for Columbiana, pouring in 14 points, while Devin Daugherty added 11 points of his own, and Maddox Brown contributed 10 points to the winning cause. Ian Less chipped in with 8 points, rounding out a formidable offensive performance for Columbiana.

On the Lisbon side, Hunter Dailey and Tate Wallen each tallied 11 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Columbiana’s tenacious defense and efficient scoring.

With the win, Columbiana finishes their regular season with an impressive 17-5 record, securing a share of the EOAC title. Now, their focus shifts to the upcoming tournament, where they will host Chagrin Falls on Tuesday in what promises to be an exciting postseason opener.

Meanwhile, Lisbon, with an 18-4 record, also looks ahead to tournament play. They will host Cornerstone Christian on Tuesday, aiming to make a statement as they pursue postseason success.

 

BUCKINGHAM’S PALACE

COLUMBIANA OH-  Columbiana High School boasts a shining star in their swimming program, junior Preston Buckingham. Widely regarded as the best swimmer to come through Columbiana, Buckingham’s remarkable talent and dedication have propelled him to extraordinary heights in the pool.

Buckingham’s list of achievements is nothing short of impressive. With a staggering ten school records to his name, he has left an indelible mark on Columbiana’s swimming program. From the 100 Freestyle to the 400 Free Relay, Buckingham’s versatility and skill across various events showcase his exceptional ability in the water. Buckingham holds school records in all of the following:

100 Backstroke
100 Breaststroke

This year marks Buckingham’s third consecutive qualification for the state championships, a testament to his consistent excellence and unwavering commitment to his craft. With each appearance at the state level, Buckingham has represented Columbiana with pride and determination, leaving a lasting impression on the swimming community.

Adding to Buckingham’s success is the opportunity to swim alongside his sister, who is a freshman this season. The bond shared between siblings in the pool not only strengthens their connection but also serves as a source of inspiration and motivation for both athletes.

Beyond his impressive accomplishments in swimming, Buckingham’s leadership extends far beyond the pool deck. As the class president of the 2025 class, a member of the junior leadership of Columbiana County, and a participant in the Teen Advisory Board for the state of Ohio, Buckingham exemplifies the qualities of a true leader both in and out of the water. His dedication to serving his school and community underscores his character and integrity as a student-athlete.

With one more year of swimming ahead at Columbiana, Buckingham remains focused on reaching new heights and achieving his personal best. As he prepares to compete at the state championships once again, Buckingham’s determination, talent, and leadership promise to continue making waves in the pool and beyond. With his sights set on continued success, the future looks bright for Preston Buckingham and the Columbiana swimming program.
