CLIPPERS LOCK UP WELLSVILLE

COLUMBIANA, OH- In a dominant display, the Columbiana Lady Clippers asserted their position at the summit of the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference (EOAC) with a commanding 46-22 victory over Wellsville on Monday.

Fueling the Clippers’ triumph, Ellie Venezia led the charge with an impressive 11 points, while Taylor Long contributed 10 points to the team’s decisive win. The Clippers’ stellar performance propelled them to a 5-0 overall record, maintaining a flawless 4-0 standing in the league.

The upset victory by Southern over United on the same night propelled Columbiana into sole possession of the first-place position in the EOAC. With upcoming matchups against Valley on Thursday and a pivotal clash with United next Monday, the Clippers have the opportunity to widen the gap between them and the competition as they conclude the first round of EOAC games.

On the opposing side, the Wellsville Tigers, now standing at 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the league, were led by Sam Drysdale’s seven points alongside Bella Poppelriter’s 6. Looking ahead, Wellsville aims to bounce back as they face United on Thursday in their upcoming contest.

LISBON WORKS THEIR WAY PAST COLUMBIANA

LISBON OH- In a challenging contest, Lisbon faced their first test of the season against EOAC rival Columbiana. Despite the Clippers’ staunch defense, Lisbon showcased resilience and determination, securing a hard-fought victory with a final score of 50-48.

Lisbon’s offensive efforts were led by Hunter Dailey, who contributed 17 points, and Trevor Siefke, who added 15 points to the scoreboard. Tate Wallen also made a valuable impact with 6 points.

Columbiana’s statistical standouts included Seth Struharik, who led their scoring with 16 points, followed by Maddox Brown with 9 points and Ian Less with 7 points.

LADY CLIPPERS FLY AWAY FROM LISBON

LISBON, OH – In a basketball clash between local rivals, the Columbiana Lady Clippers showcased their dominance, securing a convincing EOAC victory over the Lisbon Lady Blue Devils with a final score of 51-20. The first quarter set the tone for the game, with Columbiana taking a slim 12-9 lead. Averi Marshall led the charge, showcasing her scoring prowess early on. As the halftime buzzer sounded, Columbiana had extended their lead to 26-13. The Lady Clippers displayed a balanced offensive attack, with contributions from multiple players. Evy Rapp added to the scoring effort, highlighting Columbiana’s depth and versatility.

The third quarter further solidified Columbiana’s control of the game, as they widened the gap to 39-15. Averi Marshall continued to shine, finishing the game with an impressive 19 points. Evy Rapp’s steady performance, contributing 7 points, complemented Marshall’s scoring output and added to Columbiana’s success. On the opposing side, Jayden Smyth, Brooklyn Cousins, Morgan Lively led the offensive efforts for Lisbon. Smyth finishing the game with 7 points, Cousins and Lively both adding in 6 points.

Up next for the Lady Clippers will be a home match up with the Wellsville Lady Tigers on Monday, December 11th. The Lisbon Lady Blue Devils, also back in action on Monday, will travel to Valley Christian to take on the Lady Eagles.

CLIPPERS SHOOT PAST SOUTHERN

COLUMBIANA OH- Columbiana seized control of the game with a commanding second quarter, propelling them to a 72-49 victory over Southern in an EOAC matchup on Tuesday. The Clippers dominated the second quarter, outscoring Southern 21-8, establishing a lead they maintained throughout the game.

Columbiana’s scoring efforts were led by Seth Struharick, who contributed 23 points, followed by Maddox Brown with 15 points. Devin Daugherty added 9 points, while Ian Less chipped in 7 points for the Clippers.

Despite the defeat, Southern showcased a standout performance from Markell Smith, who tallied an impressive 34 points, securing the game-high total for the night.

COLUMBIANA HANGS ON TO CLINCH BIG EOAC MATCHUP

COLUMBIANA OH- In a tightly contested EOAC matchup on Monday night, Columbiana faced a fierce challenge from Southern, forcing the Clippers to cling to their lead in the fourth quarter. Despite seeing their significant advantage dwindle to just two points, Columbiana managed to secure the victory.

Contributing to Columbiana’s scoring effort were players like Ellie Venezia, who notched 10 points, along with Megan Moser, Averi Marshall, and Alaina Johnston, each adding 5 points to the scoreboard.

On the Southern side, Ashley Shroades showcased an outstanding performance, earning a game-high 14 points, while Josie Stanley chipped in with 6 points. The competitive clash highlighted the resilience of both teams, emphasizing the intensity of EOAC competition.

COLUMBIANA OH- Following a successful 14-9 season in the 2022-2023 campaign, The Columbiana Clippers boys basketball team came into this season trying to build off last year. Although The Clippers lost a pair of influential players from last year they return multiple players entering their senior season, giving them high expectations for this season. Playing in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference (EOAC) The Clippers will look to compete for top spot in a very competitive conference.

COLUMBIANA OH- Girls sports at Columbiana High School looks to be on the up-and-up. With the volleyball team beating the likes of Wellsville in conference this year to take the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference (EOAC) crown. The Clippers look to have carryover success to the basketball team that finished 14-9 and was second in the conference a season ago! All roads lead to United in the EOAC; however for many teams, including The Clippers, they feel that they have strong chances at the EOAC this year as well.

COLUMBIANA SEES THEIR SEASON END

KIRTLAND OH- In a hard-fought football battle, Columbiana’s season came to a close as they faced the formidable state powerhouse, Kirtland. The scoreboard told the story, with Kirtland emerging victorious with a commanding score of 49-6.

The first quarter set the tone for Kirtland, with Gino Blasini making a statement with a 45-yard touchdown pass from Max Paul. Nick Barisic’s successful PAT put Kirtland ahead 7-0. They didn’t stop there, as Rocco Alfieri powered through with a 6-yard touchdown run, and Barisic’s PAT made it 14-0.

In the second quarter, Kirtland continued their offensive onslaught. Will Beers scored a 9-yard touchdown run, extending their lead to 21-0. Rocco Alfieri added another 9-yard touchdown run, and Nick Barisic’s PAT made it 28-0. Will Sayle joined the scoring frenzy with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Jake LaVerde, followed by another touchdown pass, this time 18 yards to Gino Blasini. Barisic’s consistent kicking made it 42-0.

Columbiana managed to put points on the board in the third quarter when Craig Witherow caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Liam Surgenavic. However, the PAT attempt failed, leaving them with a score of 42-6.

As the final quarter commenced, Kirtland sealed their dominant victory with Evan Kaprowski’s 22-yard touchdown pass from Max Paul, and Barisic’s PAT. The game ended with a resounding 49-6 victory for Kirtland, signaling the end of Columbiana’s season in the face of a powerful opponent.

CLIPPERS GLIDE INTO THE NEXT ROUND

COLUMBIANA OH- Columbiana displayed their volleyball prowess in style, securing a well-deserved spot in the district semifinals with a commanding 25-11, 25-16, 25-9 sweep over Grand Valley.

The Columbiana squad put forth a fantastic team effort, with several players making significant contributions. Ellie Jackson was instrumental, showcasing her versatility with 8 kills, 6 assists, 11 digs, and 2 aces. Cameron Perkins proved to be a double-double machine, amassing 5 kills, 15 assists, and 15 digs, while Maryn Hepler added 5 kills and 10 digs to the team’s success. Ava Heinrich played a key role in the defense with an impressive 16 digs.

Columbiana’s stellar performance in this matchup earned them a well-deserved ticket to the district semifinals. In the upcoming clash, they’ll face off against the 6th-seeded Mineral Ridge, promising another exciting showdown. The game is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 at Grand Valley High School.

CLIPPERS ARE BACK INTO THE PLAYOFFS

COLUMBIANA OH- In a thrilling football matchup, Columbiana secured their first playoff appearance since 2017 with a hard-fought 16-6 victory over Valley Christian.

Valley Christian made an early statement as Ja’Sean Lindsey powered through for a 5-yard touchdown on the Eagles’ first drive, putting them ahead 6-0. However, Columbiana responded in the second quarter with a well-executed play. Hayes McCoy orchestrated a shovel pass to Liam Surgenavic, resulting in an 18-yard touchdown that marked the Clippers’ first points of the game.

The third quarter saw the Clippers extending their lead as Kian Hartley bulldozed his way through for a 4-yard touchdown, firmly solidifying Columbiana’s control over the game.
