Caleb Sinn, a junior at Western Reserve High School, has become a standout in the local sports scene, particularly known for his prowess on the defensive line. His recent accolade of “Athletix Player of the Game” at the McDonald game highlighted his ability to dominate the backfield, a skill he credited to his dedication and love for defense.

“I like playing on defense because we get a chance to show our coaches that offense doesn’t just win games,” Sinn remarked, emphasizing the thrill and importance of teamwork on the defensive front.

A multi-sport athlete, Sinn has found significant crossover benefits between wrestling and football. “Wrestling helps a lot with football, especially with tackling and the physicality of the game,” he explained. When asked to choose between the two sports, Sinn expressed a deep-seated passion for wrestling, a sport he has cherished since sixth grade.

Despite his athletic commitments, Sinn has his sights set on another noble pursuit post-high school—enlisting in the Marines. His sense of duty towards his country was notably commended by Colucci during the interview.

Reflecting on a recent game against Camel, Sinn noted the strengths of their opponent’s offensive line and the strategic adjustments his team made. His preferred technique on the defensive line, the swim move, was also discussed, showcasing his tactical approach and football IQ.

Beyond sports, Sinn shared a glimpse of his personal likes and day-to-day routines. From his favorite vacation spots like Florida and Hawaii to his go-to gas station snacks—chocolate milk and a protein bar—Sinn’s grounded and straightforward nature shone through.

Chris Colucci closed the interview by highlighting the continuous support from local businesses like Ben’s Restaurant, urging the community to participate in Friday night events that celebrate student-athletes. Significantly, Colucci praised Sinn’s relentless spirit and his future potential in both wrestling and football.

On the latest episode of the YSN podcast, “The Devils Hour with Dom Ricciardi,” hosted by Chris Colucci, standout player Dom Ricciardi shared his thoughts and insights on the upcoming clash.

Ricciardi, who has been instrumental in the team’s success both as a running back and an outside linebacker, acknowledged the challenges faced in their previous game against Camel. Despite securing a victory, he admitted the team’s performance was somewhat marred by overconfidence and a lack of focus, attributing these issues to players looking ahead to the Springfield game.

“We had some guys just kind of ease down,” Ricciardi remarked, emphasizing the need to “put our foot on the gas” for the entire game. He underscored the importance of discipline, especially on defense, to cope with trick plays.

As the Blue Devils prepare to host the Tigers, Ricciardi highlighted the significance of the home advantage at Western Reserve High School. Noting the intimidation factor at Springfield’s venue, he expressed relief at playing on their own turf, which he believes will be a crucial element in the team’s performance.

Colucci pointed out the strength of the Blue Devils’ offense, particularly their “three-headed monster” backfield, featuring Ricciardi, Peter, and Darnie. Ricciardi praised the dynamic between the trio, emphasizing the mutual support and blocking efforts that bolster their running game.

With both teams eyeing the league title, Friday night’s game promises to be a spectacle of smash-mouth football. Ricciardi conveyed the team’s heightened focus and serious approach to practice this week, signifying their readiness for the high-stakes match.

Fans are encouraged to visit Ben’s restaurant, the loyal supporter of the YSN podcast, after the game. Ben’s will remain open late, providing a perfect spot for fans to gather and celebrate.

PITTER PATER; SEE YOU LATER

BERLIN CENTER, OH- West Reserve’s football team is abuzz with anticipation this season, thanks to junior quarterback Chris Pater, who steps into the spotlight following the graduation of former QB Air Henning. In a recent episode of YSN’s “Devils Hour,” Pater sat down to share his experiences and aspirations for the team.

During the podcast, Pater, affectionately dubbed a “tank” by Coach Armenia for his resilience and physical prowess, spoke about the pressures and excitement of being QB one. “Obviously Luke was an amazing quarterback, and it’s been rough replacing him,” Pater acknowledged. “But being quarterback in week one was really about showing people what I’m made of, that I can do this.”

Despite this pressure, Pater is not shying away from his leadership role. “I don’t take it as extra weight,” Pater explained. “Everybody’s looking towards me, so I need to show them what to do, encourage them, and motivate them.”

The team has enjoyed a strong start, bolstered by their camaraderie and rigorous training. Over the summer, coaches held team-bonding activities including a grueling 6 AM workout that involved pushing a side-by-side with a trailer full of stones for about 2 miles. Such exercises have cemented their unity, which Pater believes will propel them to more success than last year.

“It brought us closer as a team than we have been in the past three years,” Pater noted, optimistic about their prospect of a great season. Despite his affection for passing, Pater is ready for any challenge, even if it means running the ball more, embodying a true team player mentality.

Beyond the gridiron, Pater is also driven by a legacy. His father was a renowned athlete, and Pater proudly carries that legacy, even sporting a tattoo of his family name. “I want to carry on the Pater name and be everything my dad was and more,” he shared.

Coach Armenia commended Pater for his fearless attitude and adaptability, describing him as a quarterback with the vision and poise to make plays that many seasoned players would struggle with.

As Pater looks forward to another year at West Reserve, he’s determined to leave behind a lasting legacy. “I want young kids to look up and say they want to play like Chris Pater,” he said, emphasizing the importance of being a great student-athlete.

With a strong bond and a focused leader in Chris Pater, West Reserve’s football team is poised for a remarkable season. Fans and teammates alike are eager to see how far their unified efforts and Pater’s leadership will take them.
