THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS
CAMPBELL, OH- The Campbell Memorial Red Devils have been on a journey marked by ups and downs this season. However, last week’s shining victory over Jackson-Milton has reinvigorated the team, setting the stage for an exciting end to the regular season. Senior leader and offensive lineman, Jacob Tavarnak, shared insights on the pivotal win and the path forward during a recent episode of the “YSN” podcast, hosted by Matt Maher.
Reflecting on the crucial victory, Tavarnak stated, “It’s great to have the team back motivated again and ready to make the playoffs if we win this Friday.” The Red Devils executed a strategic offensive game plan focused on the run game, allowing them to break through Jackson-Milton’s defenses. Tavarnak credited the teamwork and coordinated blocks upfront for the success, saying, “We had a big run game plan going into that week… just working down the field chunk by chunk.”
With only one game left in the regular season, Campbell Memorial is eyeing a playoff spot. Currently ranked 18th, a win against Waterloo could catapult them into the 13th spot, potentially securing a home-field advantage later in the playoffs. Looking ahead, Tavarnak stressed, “Our game plan is just playing fundamental, playing sound, and just doing what we do best. If we do what we do best, we will come out with this win.”
Beyond the football field, Tavarnak is also gearing up for the basketball season, slated to start in late November. While he’s excited about the upcoming transition, his focus remains firmly on closing out the football season on a high note.
Fundamental to their success this year has been the team’s bond, both on and off the field. Tavarnak highlighted the unparalleled camaraderie, explaining, “Everyone here is close; we’re like family.” This unity, he believes, is a key reason behind the team’s achievements this season.
As the Red Devils prepare for their final regular-season game at home, the community’s support will be crucial. Tavarnak acknowledged the fans’ unwavering support, calling them “amazing” and expressing confidence in a full turnout. He urged fans to join them, promising an exciting game and a potential victory against Waterloo.
The Campbell Memorial Red Devils, under the guidance of Coach King, have overcome myriad challenges to create a season to remember. As they step onto the field for perhaps the most significant game of their season, the unity and resilience that have brought them this far remain their strongest assets.
