SOUTH RANGE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH NATHAN TOY

CANFIELD, OH – At the cozy ambiance of GIAngelo’s on 224, South Range’s Coach Nathan Toy took center stage for a heartwarming edition of the “South Range Coach’s Corner,” hosted by DJ Yokley. Toy, stepping in for the under-the-weather Dave Rock, provided fans with an intimate glimpse into his storied coaching career and the special place football holds in his family.

Twelve years deep into coaching, Toy shared his deep-rooted passion for football, citing its importance in his household and its central role in bringing him back to South Range. “Football was always a priority in our household…one of the reasons I came back,” Toy reminisced.

For the Toys, football is more than just a game— it’s a legacy. Nathan Toy is part of a third-generation tradition at South Range, a heritage that extends to his children. “Being able to coach my sons and watch my cousins and their kids play is one of the best things,” Toy highlighted, emphasizing the deep familial ties to the program.

The transition from a player to a coach wasn’t without its challenges, Toy admitted, particularly when it comes to teaching and relating to today’s athletes in a fast-evolving game. “It’s trying to relate to the kids in real-time,” he stated. But with the support of a robust coaching staff and a strong focus on motivation, Toy has found his stride.

Toy’s youngest son, Tristan, currently stands out as a star player and 2024 NE8 Co-Player of the Year, a point of immense pride for the coach. “I try not to coach him at home… I just let him be,” Toy said, acknowledging the fine balance between being a coach and a father.

The conversation also turned to Toy’s daughter, Anna, who has carved out a remarkable volleyball career, noted for her tenacity and competitive spirit. “She’s more competitive than Tristan… I really enjoy watching her play,” Toy shared with a smile.

One topic that drew emotional reflection was the unwavering support from Toy’s wife, who has been a pillar through countless moves and long seasons. “I couldn’t do it without her, and I thank her,” Toy expressed deeply.

As DJ Yokley closed the segment, he emphasized the communal support and pride that South Range families, like the Toys, bring to the program. “South Range football isn’t just about the game— it’s about family, legacy, and community.” Clearly, under the guidance of coaches like Nathan Toy, the future of South Range football continues to shine bright.

SOUTH RANGE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 11) WITH DAVE RACH

CANFIELD, OH- In the latest episode of YSN’s “South Range Coach’s Corner,” Dave Rach and DJ Yokley welcomed a special guest: former head coach Dan Yeagley. The undefeated South Range Raiders are preparing for a crucial playoff rematch against Gerard, and the discussion was rich with reflections, strategies, and the deep bond that ties the coaching staff and their community.

As the conversation opened, DJ Yokley asked about the team’s preparation and the insights they might have gleaned from their previous game against Gerard.

“You starters are pulled, majority of them out in the second half,” said Yokley, praising their strategic depth-building. Rach responded by emphasizing the importance of providing valuable playoff experience to the younger players, ensuring they’re battle-hardened for future seasons.

A touching moment came when Rach was asked to identify someone who had profoundly influenced his life. Without hesitation, he pointed to Yeagley.

“He continues to be somebody that invests in me and leads me,” Rach shared, a sentiment echoed by his actions and words throughout his coaching career.

In a surprise turn, Dan Yeagley made his entrance alongside his wife. The atmosphere turned nostalgic as the two coaches reminisced and praised each other’s philosophies and impacts.

The upcoming game against Girard was at the forefront of the discussion. Yeagley highlighted his concerns about facing a team for the second time in a season, describing the unique challenges and psychological hurdles it poses.

“Playing the team twice… I worry about just kids being kids and taking the team lightly,” Yeagley admitted, despite his confidence in Rach’s ability to prepare the team.

With this game being the last at Rominger Stadium for the season, the emotional weight was palpable. Both coaches emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and pride in defending their home turf.

Rach summed it up aptly: “The game, your last home game, is going to be a game that you remember forever.”

Closing the episode, both coaches expressed their admiration for each other’s styles and contributions. Rach spoke of Yeagley’s consistency and relentless approach to building the program, while Yeagley praised Rach’s interaction with the kids and his professional demeanor.

“He’s special. He’s just very special,” Yeagley said, encapsulating the mutual respect and affection between the two.

As the Raiders prepare to take on Gerard this Friday at Rominger Stadium, the stakes couldn’t be higher. The winner advances, and the loser goes home. With the legacy of their coaching staff and the support of their community behind them, the South Range Raiders are more than ready for the challenge.

IN THE NICK OF TIME

CANFIELD, OH-  The Canfield Cardinals’ senior wide receiver and cornerback Nick Joseph is making waves on and off the field during his final high school football season. In an exclusive interview on YSN’s latest episode, Joseph shared insights into his journey, the significance of family support, and the team’s goals for the season.

Last Friday, Joseph played a pivotal role in Canfield’s thrilling victory against their archrival, the Poland Bulldogs, in the highly anticipated “Battle of 224.” Reflecting on the game, Joseph said, “It felt really good to get our get back from last year. It was a sad loss, but we made it work this year, and we’re very proud of it.”
The Canfield Cardinals are sitting at a 2-2 record and looking strong. Joseph attributes much of his success to his family’s unwavering support. “My family has done everything they could. They’ve come to every game. They’ve supported me. They wear a jersey with my name on it at every game, and they’re always bringing my grandparents,” he shared proudly.

When faced with the perennial question of whether he prefers offense or defense, Joseph’s current focus lies on the defensive side. “I’ve been liking defense a lot recently,” he admitted. He lauded the team’s defensive depth, highlighting the trust and cohesion within the squad.

The Cardinals, coached by Matt Ignazio, are prepping for a tough matchup against the Cheney Cowboys this Friday. Despite Cheney’s 1-3 record, Joseph recognizes their athleticism and speed, emphasizing the importance of focused practices.

As senior year advances, Joseph fondly recalls his journey from freshman year to now, noting the camaraderie among the senior class. “Our senior group, we’re a smaller class. We’ve had a lot of people leave our class, but we’ve stayed together and stayed friends,” he said.

Looking ahead, Joseph has ambitious academic goals, considering a future in engineering or business, with institutions like Miami University of Ohio on his radar.
Nick Joseph’s story is one of dedication, resilience, and community. As the Canfield Cardinals gear up for the rest of the season, Joseph’s leadership and passion will undoubtedly propel the team forward.
