CANFIELD BASEBALL COACH S CORNER EP 1 WITH GARY KNITTLE

CANFIELD, OH- In the latest episode of YSN’s “Canfield Baseball Coach’s Corner,” host DJ Yokley sits down with Canfield baseball coach, Gary Knittle, to discuss the season opener and reflect on the development of players within the program. HANOVERTON OH- It’s time for another spring sports season! We know that it would t be complete without United softball.  This season the Eagles are looking to fly high in the EOAC under new head coach Jen Koons.  New is a loose term though, because Koons has been around the program for a while and is very familiar with what she has to work with.  They return a ton of speed on the base paths, and coach Koons promises they will try to cause chaos on the bases whenever possible. You can never sleep on the Eagles come softball season.

Coach Koons graciously took the time to chat with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig to help us preview the upcoming season.  They talk about what stars are returning in their dugout, the schedule they’ve put together to test themselves, and much more. SALEM SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH MICHAEL THORPE

SALEM OH- Quaker country, are you ready for spring? The girls that lace up their gloves on the softball diamond sure are.  The Quakers have a squad that is overflowing with returning experience that is hungry to prove that they belong in the local conversation.  You’ll find plenty of young experienced players that not only promise to do great things for Salem this year, but also for years to come.  They’ll create the building blocks to keep the program alive and well.

SPRINGFIELD SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH MIKE RUBOSKY

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH-  When you are an athlete at Springfield, winning is in your culture. There’s no way around that.  On the girls side of athletics, the basketball team just set the tone by getting their third straight district championship.  Now it’s softball’s turn to make their mark.  The Tigers may have lost a good core of players to graduation, but they still have plenty of leaders that want to make this program great, and hold up the standard.

Springfield head coach Mike Rubosky is going in to his second year as head coach of the Tigers.  He has already placed the culture he wants into the program, and now it’s time to start building it from the bottom up. SOUTH RANGE SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JEFF DEROSE

CANFIELD OH- After another trip to Firestone Stadium last season for South Range, they are locked in to start another season.  The trip to state was the program’s 3rd since 2016.  The Raiders have never missed a beat in pitching over the seasons, having a college level arm in the circle since 2010.  Now it’s a new generation’s turn to continue that tradition and keep this program in the right direction.  Although last year’s senior class was crucial to their tournament run, they still had plenty of young players step up in the biggest moments.  They’ll lean on that experience to guide the players that are stepping into bigger roles on the team.

Raiders head coach Jeff DeRose has had plenty to celebrate in his career at South Range, and he’s hoping this year just adds more.  He took time out his day to chat with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig about the upcoming season.  They discuss what it’ll take to get back to Firestone Stadium, what fans should expect in the circle, and much more. CARDINAL MOONEY GIRLS LACROSSE COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH TONI CHAHINE

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in the area. If you don’t believe that, all you have to do is look at the increase in numbers that Cardinal Mooney’s girls program has experienced in the last two seasons. Last year with a handful of players who were picking up the sport for the first time, Mooney still found success.  Head coach Toni Chahine knows that now her program is ahead of schedule and she can focus on building IQ and fine tuning the details to turn this program even closer to greatness.

BOARDMAN BASEBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JOE GABRIEL

BOARDMAN OH- It’s just about baseball time in the area, and no one is more excited to get back to action than the Boardman Spartans.  After a season where a young team went through adversity, the Spartans are banking on experience being a fantastic tool to success.  Coach Joe Gabriel and his staff have always put their players in the best position to win, and now with an experienced group of players that job gets easier.  The Spartans play in a tough AAC that will always keep them on their toes.  They’ll try to push through it and make some serious waves in the standings.

HOWLAND OH- Start flipping your calendars towards spring, and get yourself ready for softball season. The excitement is building in Howland’s program as they’ve had a very successful preseason so far.  The Tigers may have lost 6 important senior leaders to graduation, but they still have a big group of core players that are geared up for a run.  Howland’s head coach Nicole Wayt knows what it takes to develop talent.  We’ve seen her roster grow in ability in skill over their career, and it might just culminate into something special this year.

HOWLAND BASEBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH BRITTON TAYLOR

HOWKAND OH- The changing from winter to spring doesn’t just bring about warmer temperatures, it brings about new opportunities for every high school athlete who graces the baseball diamond.  It has also brought a fresh start to the Howland baseball program as they bring aboard first year head coach Britton Taylor.  Britton is a Howland guy through and through and calls this job nothing less than a dream come true.  He inherits a good mix of core leadership, along with young and hungry talent.  There are plenty of reasons to be excited for what the Tigers will bring to the dish this year.

CANFIELD SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH MIKE KERNAN

CANFIELD OH- They say the closer you get to the championship the harder it is to come up short, last year Canfield got as close as you can. The 2023 state runners up come into the new season with fuel and drive to get themselves ready for a second chance at the state trophy.  The Cardinals graduated 8 seniors which would be a heavy hit on everyone.  However, they also return plenty of key pieces that got them to the state final last season, including 1st team All-State pitcher Malena Toth.  With plenty of goals locked and loaded the Cardinals are ready for a fun spring on the softball diamond.

Head coach Mike Kernan took the time this week to catch up with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig.  They talk about the fuel that getting a state championship gives the team to get back, who is stepping up to the leadership plate this season, and much more.
