BOARDMAN SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH FRED MOOTZ

BOARDMAN OH- Spring is in the air, the weather is turning and that means that softball is right around the corner.  In Boardman Fred Mootz returns for another season heading up a talented Spartan team hungry for success in 2024.  With a lot of experience returning, especially in the infield Boardman feels like this year will be a big step up.  They finished the season 10-15 a year ago, but feel a lot of those losses can easily be turned into wins.

it’s time to turn the lights on and preview the upcoming season. Coach Mootz took the time to chat with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig to talk about the experienced roster the Spartans have, the tough league they play in, and much more. Check out Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with Fred Mootz!

AUSTINTOWN FITCH SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH STEVE WARD

AUSTINTOWN OH- The calendar is turning, and the weather is heating up. That means softball season is in the air.  There’s no one more excited to start the year are the Fitch falcons who are coming off a state championship.  The Falcons are chomping at the bit to get things started again.  With plenty of returning starters from last years run to a title, Fitch could be considered a favorite to get back there.  However the team is putting the accolades and outside expectations on the back burner and setting their own standard on what it will take to win a second championship.

LISBON FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH BILL MEEK

LISBON, OH- In a special debut for Lisbon, YSN’s Coaches Corner hosted an exclusive interview with the brand new football coach for the Lisbon Blue Devils at David Anderson High School. Bill Meek, a veteran coach with 35 years of experience, was introduced as the first-time head coach during the episode.

Meek, who comes from a coaching family and has extensive experience coaching in various schools, emphasized his excitement for the new opportunity. His retirement from the federal prison service paved the way for him to apply for the head coaching job, fulfilling a career milestone he had been waiting for.
Having a strong connection to Lisbon, Meek reflected on his previous coaching stint in 2003 and highlighted the significance of the football tradition in the community. With a focus on team unity and a strategy centered around the team’s strengths, he expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season despite the changes in the roster.

The episode also revealed some surprising additions to the coaching staff, including three experienced coaches, one of whom is an 83-year-old veteran with exceptional expertise in football strategies.
Meek’s coaching style, rooted in a belief in discipline and a team-first approach, reflects his background as a therapist. His emphasis on representing the school and community in a first-class manner indicates a commitment to the holistic development of his players.

The Lisbon community eagerly anticipates the arrival of Coach Meek and his staff as the Blue Devils prepare for what could be an exciting season in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference (EOAC).
With high hopes for the future, Lisbon welcomes Coach Bill Meek as he embarks on this new chapter with the Blue Devils.

WELLSVILLE BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH NATE SCOTT

WELLSVILLE OH-  There’s a new sheriff in town! And his name is Nate Scott! When talking about boys basketball in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference (EOAC), the class of the last few years have been The Wellsville Tigers. Coached by longtime great David “Bug” Thompson The Tigers capture a couple hundred wins under the tutelage of Coach Thompson. However, taking the head coaching spot for the Wellsville girls basketball team, left a vacancy for the boys. Who would take over the reins of a very respectable basketball program?

Enter Nate Scott, a Wellsville grad and a lover of all things Tigers! Taking over a team that went 17-7 last year, but subsequently lost a lot of senior talent, Coach Scott looks to build his own legacy at Wellsville while keeping the traditions. YSNs Ty Bartell got the chance to talk with the new Tiger head coach about the upcoming season. They discuss players who are expected to get quality minutes, competing in the tough EOAC this season, the coaching style and focus of Coach Scott and much more. GIRARD BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH CRAIG HANNON

GIRARD OH-There are plenty of fun basketball conferences to choose from this season, most of which
should be competitive with a few teams in the running. However, none might be as wide open as The Northeast 8 (NE8) this year. Typically featuring multiple talented teams’ hoops season on the boys side, multiple teams feel that they are in the running for the top spot of the conference. One of those teams, surprisingly, flying under the radar are The Girard Indians! Although losing a good senior class from a season ago, The Indians are still coming off a 16-8 year where they were shared the top spot in the conference when all was said and done.

With plenty of returners that experienced the second place taste last year, you can believe that Girard will be motivated this season! YSNs Ty Bartell got the opportunity to chat with the skipper at Girard, Head Coach Craig Hannon about this season. YOUNGSTOWN OH- When talking about Youngstown East athletics, one thing is for sure, the love for the programs runs deep! Community support from far and wide all over the country there is love for The Golden Bears. Members of the Steel Valley Conference (SVC) once again, The Bears feel they are up for the challenge to compete for a conference crown. Although a smaller conference that only features four teams, when it comes to basketball on the boys side, it’s a free-for-all when it can be anyone’s year!

The Golden Bears are continuing to build and feel like they are just the tip of the iceberg of what the program can become. YSNs Ty Bartell got the opportunity to talk with Head Coach Chivas Hipple about the upcoming hoops season for East. Full speed ahead for the 2023-2024 season, the Bulldogs and their community are looking to get loud in the gym once again!

ORANGE WRESTLING COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH BRODY ARRUNDALE

PEPPER PIKE, OH- In the latest episode of YSN’s “Orange Wrestling Coach’s Corner,” Coach Brody Arrundale opens up about his first year as head coach of the varsity wrestling program at Orange High School in Pepper Pike.
Coach Arrunndale reflects on the rising popularity of wrestling, crediting the inclusion of women in the sport for its recent growth. He emphasizes the importance of managing expectations for the young team, highlighting their potential and strong leadership qualities.
With a focus on making the sport enjoyable and beneficial for the student-athletes, Arrundale stresses the significance of instilling discipline and nurturing personal growth. He also shares his own journey into wrestling, speaking about his passion for the sport and the invaluable lessons it has taught him.
As the team only has one senior, Arrundale sees this as both a challenge and an opportunity for the underclassmen to step up and develop their skills.
Arrundale’s leadership style revolves around creating a supportive and motivating environment, where students are encouraged to work hard for each other and understand the personal growth that comes from their dedication to the sport.
The coach’s personal motivation stems from his deep understanding of what wrestling can offer beyond traditional achievements, and he is committed to passing on the sport’s valuable lessons to the next generation of athletes.
Orange High School’s wrestling program is in good hands with Coach Arrundale at the helm, and the upcoming season looks promising under his guidance.
