CORTLAND OH – With a blend of talent and leadership, Lakeview High School’s junior soccer sensation MaKenna Doran has emerged as a cornerstone of her team. In a recent podcast interview with Anthony Hartwig Aand YSN, Doran talked about her growth and experiences, both as an athlete and a student.

As just a junior, Doran has shouldered significant leadership responsibilities, a role she cherishes deeply. “Being a leader on the team means a lot to me because I can help everyone get better,” she shared. Her uplifting attitude sets her apart, encouraging her teammates to learn from their mistakes and push forward. Reflecting on her journey, Doran pointed out that her confidence has skyrocketed since her freshman year, attributing much of this growth to her dynamic teammates and supportive mentors, like seniors of the past. The connection between teammates, fostered through activities such as laser tag and team dinners, has fortified Lakeview’s palpable chemistry on and off the field. Doran’s offensive prowess is undeniable, with nearly one-third of her team’s goals this season credited to her name. She attributes her success to collaborative play, particularly with fellow teammate Lorelai Lowe. “Combining on and off the ball with Lorelai has been key to our success,” she said.

Outside soccer, Doran is a driven student who navigates the challenges of junior year with remarkable organization, relying on sticky notes and phone reminders to manage her workload. Being a junior, Doran is at a critical juncture in her academic and athletic career, eyeing a potential future in Division II soccer while exploring degrees in business and communications. But what truly makes MaKenna Doran stand out is her gratitude. She extended heartfelt thanks to her parents, who have supported her soccer journey financially and emotionally, her club coach for continual guidance, and best friend Annabelle Humphrey for their unwavering friendship and mutual support. As MaKenna continues to shine for Lakeview, her blend of athletic skill, academic diligence, and heartfelt teamwork promises a bright future ahead.
