TIGERS SHOW THEIR TEETH

HOWLAND OH- Last season it was Crestview boys soccer who put an area team in the state tournament. The Rebels wanted to test their status out of the jump in 2022 as they took on state power house Howland. It was the Tigers that flexed their muscles in this battle as they trounced Crestview 8-0.

Jet Hua scored in the opening minute for the Tigers to set the tone for what would prove to be a powerful offensive attack that overwhelmed Crestview.

Howland will return to the pitch on Tuesday as they host Poland at 7:00.

CRESTVIEW FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH PAUL CUSICK

COLUMBIANA, OH- For nearly a quarter century, Paul Cusick has been the chief of his tribe on the sidelines.  In Crestview, it’s well understood the history, the commitment, and the reward for the dedication to the program year in and year out.

It’s more than X’s and O’s, it’s about the family, and how to conduct yourself when you’re representing someone or something.

Entering his 24th year, Coach “Q” is still making tweaks and adjustments to not only make better football players- but better young men.  This year will be no different with 16 returning lettermen from 2021, Cusick and his staff will be tasked with finding a path to the playoffs for the third consecutive season.

For the sixth straight year, Coach Cusick allowed YSN to chat it up with him prior to gameday for a series we call: Crestview Coach’s Corner with Paul Cusick.

Coach Auer came on YSN’s Running Point this week to talk about her returning stars, and some new faces fans will have to take note of. BLAKEMAN BRINGS THE VERSATILITY

COLUMBIANA OH- For a head coach, what are some types of players you want on your squad? Some strong arms on the mound? Sure. Couple of power bats to add some runs? No doubt!  How about someone that is capable of giving you both, plus is willing to play strong defense at any of the 9 available positions! Look no further, Carter Blakeman is your man!  The Crestview Rebels senior has gone into his senior season with the idea of leading by example. By playing any defensive position asked of him, he has exemplified what it means to be a great teammate.

However, make no mistake about it. His versatility on the defensive side of the ball does NOT make him a liability with a bat in his hands. A hitter that has more than carried his weight on the team throughout  his Crestview career.  Putting together one spectacular career with The Rebels that is going to continue for 4 more years; starting next season. Cuyahoga Community College made plans to make Blakeman a part of their roster for the foreseeable future.

The three-horned attack of this Triceratops’ hitting, fielding and pitching will be on full display for Tri-C next year. Until then, you can enjoy this EXCLUSIVE player profile with the man himself!
