TIGERS RIGHT BACK WHERE THEY BELONG

TWINSBURG OH- Howland boys soccer being in the state tournament has become second nature to area soccer fans. Coming in to this season, the Tigers had been to two of the last three final fours.  Standing in their way of making it three of the last four was CVCA. It was a battle, CVCA is a solid program, but the Tigers pulled out the victory 2-1.

For the Tigers offense it was Jak Kenney that did the damage.  He scored both of the Tigers goals to seal their victory.  The win for Howland took them to 19-1-2 on the season and they will advance to their third state semifinal appearance in four seasons.  The Tigers opponent will be Shawnee who beat Revere 3-2 in their regional championship.  That game will take place Wednesday at 7:00 at Clear Fork in Bellville.

CANFIELD CANT OVERCOME CVCA

CANFIELD- The Canfield Cardinals hosted CVCA Monday night. It was a back and forth battle in the final quarter, but the Mighty Royals came out on top.

The first half was all CVCA, as they came out lighting it up from distance in the first quarter, knocking down 4 shots from 3 point range. CVCA also was suffocating on the defensive side, holding Canfield to just 14 points in the first half. Both teams went to the locker room at half, and the Mighty Royals owned a 25-14 lead.

In the second half, Canfield came out on a big run, and trailed by 3 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The final 8 minutes of play was a back and forth battle, and came down to the final possession. CVCA got a huge stop defensively, and laid in a fast break layup to seal the deal. CVCA was the ultimate winner, by a final of 51-46.

Gia Casalinova continues her fantastic start in 2020, leading the Mighty Royals with 19 points, and was 7/8 from the charity stripe. Canfield was led by Summer Sammarone and Marissa Ieraci, who each had 13 points.

QUAKERS STUMBLE LATE AGAINST CVCA

SALEM OH- In a rematch of last year’s 1st round playoff matchup between Salem and CVCA, the Royals once again came out on the winning end by a score of 28-21 on Friday night.

Salem took control of the ball game in the 1st quarter, leading. 13-0, and looked like they were gonna take a two score lead into the intermission after scoring to go up 21-7 with a minute left before half. CVCA would return the ensuing kick-off 80 yards for a score. That play would seize the momentum for the Royals and they would take over from there.
Scoring twice in the 3rd and capitalizing on 3 Quaker turnovers led the Royals to victory. The Quakers had a number of opportunities late to tie the game up, but unfortunately struggled to take care of the football, taking potential points off the board, and coming up short.
Salem (5-5) travels to United next week to finish out there season against the Eagles. Kick off in Hanoverton is at 7.
