CANFIELD, OH- In a lively interview hosted by DJ Yokley at Giangelo’s off 224 in Boardman, South Range High School senior Aidan Dominguez opened up about his high school football journey, evolving leadership roles, and the close-knit bond he shares with both his teammates and family.

Fresh off a remarkable touchdown last week, Dominguez shared insights into his senior year, reflecting on how time has flown since his freshman days at South Range High. “Freshman year felt like ten times longer than sophomore year,” Aidan recounted. Now, already in week three of his final season, he emphasized the heightened speed at which time seems to pass.

Dominguez’s metamorphosis from a defensive safety to a dynamic edge rusher on the defensive line marked a significant transition. Describing the physical and mental demands of his new role, Dominguez said, “Before, if they ran away from me, I wasn’t in it. But now on the line, every single play, I gotta be locked in, loaded.”

His dual responsibilities as a running back and defensive lineman have ramped up his workload and physical toll. Reflecting on his current season’s grueling pace, Aidan admitted, “I’m so sore after these games. Never been that way before.”

Yokley drew attention to the added pressure that comes with being a senior leader and the expectations of chasing a state championship legacy. Dominguez acknowledged the urgency, stating, “I wouldn’t want to spoil that and not get as far as I think we can.”

At the heart of Dominguez’s journey is the support of his family, especially the unique dynamic of having his older brother as part of the coaching staff. “It’s kinda cool because he’s been explaining things my whole life to me,” Aidan noted, praising his brother’s ability to connect with his friends and teammates.

When asked about his future, Dominguez revealed aspirations beyond the gridiron, expressing interest in pursuing an electrical engineering degree. Yet, when pressed on whether his football career might extend to college, he remained undecided.

Towards the end of the conversation, Aidan got reflective, crediting his father as a significant role model who instilled a strong work ethic and his mother as the emotional heart of the family. “She keeps it calm a lot and holds everybody together,” he said.
