Ashtabula, OH- In an exclusive interview with Devan Miller, the Week 7 440 Sports Show Player of the Week, we dive into the mindset and dedication of this Lakeside High School standout. Sponsored by Sposito Insurance, the spotlight on Miller highlights his growth, both on and off the field.

A junior running back and linebacker for the Lakeside Dragons, Miller attributes much of his success to a multifaceted approach to athletics. “Track has helped with my speed and agility, and I’ve spent a lot of time in the gym focusing on strength,” Miller explains. This holistic commitment has shaped him into a versatile player, capable of making an impact on both sides of the ball.

When asked about the high-intensity atmosphere in Lakeside’s recent game against their county rivals, the Jefferson Falcons, Miller lights up. “Those games are the most fun because the whole community shows up. The atmosphere is electric,” he shares. During that game, he was given a new challenge—moving from his usual linebacker position to cornerback to help contain Jefferson’s speed. “I was excited. I just focused on keeping everything in front of me,” says Miller, embracing the switch with confidence.

Miller’s defining moment came late in the fourth quarter when he broke open a 78-yard run off a screen pass. That pivotal play set Lakeside up for a lead change that ultimately secured their victory. “Once I saw the block in front of me, I knew my speed would take me to the end zone, but the whole play felt like it was happening in slow motion,” Miller recalls.

As he looks ahead, Miller is laser-focused on elevating his football IQ. “I’m always working on understanding the game on a deeper level,” he says, noting that he spends significant time watching game film to sharpen his skills. Yet, for all the accolades, it’s the comparisons to his father that mean the most to him. “People have started telling me that I remind them of my dad, and that’s a huge point of pride for me,” he reveals, honored to follow in the footsteps of a man who was also an outstanding athlete.
