WESTMINSTER MEN FINISSH 7TH AT WOOSTER

WOOSTER, Ohio–The Westminster College men’s swimming and diving program finished in seventh place at The College of Wooster Invitational Saturday evening.

The three-day event was held inside Wooster’s Timken Natatorium. Diving events were contested at the YMCA of Wooster’s Ellen Shapiro Natatorium.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology topped the eight-team field with 1852.50 points. Westminster totaled 557 points.

Freshman Jack Katigbak (North Canton, Ohio, Lake Center Christian) headlined Saturday’s evening session by finishing fourth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1 minute, 56.75 seconds. He took over a half-second off his time in the preliminaries.

Sophomore Colton Super (Aliquippa, Pa., Central Valley) registered a fifth-place finish on the 1-meter board with 311.95 points.

Senior Samuel Duda (Tulsa, Okla., Bishop Kelley) registered a time of 17:13.61 to finish ninth in the 1650 and secure the top spot in the “B” finals. Sophomore Hayne Webster (Wellsboro, Pa., Wellsboro) was 11th in the 100 IM (1:00.03) while freshman Avery Bumbach (Ocala, Fla., Forest) finished 13th in the 100 freestyle (49.14). Senior Michael Phillips (Saxonburg, Pa., Knoch) was 16th in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.92) and senior Mason Peck (Cary, N.C., Panther Creek) was 17th in the 1650 (18:14.85).

Senior Steel Boyer (Mohrsville, Pa., Schuylkill Valley) finished 19th in the 200 backstroke (2:21.76) and 22nd in the 200 butterfly (2:18.12). Senior Cory Webster (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) was 21st in the 200 butterfly (2:13.11) and freshman Ethan Schohn (Pittsburgh, Pa., Plum) finished 23rd in the 100 freestyle (51.74).

The 400 freestyle relay, made up of Katigbak, Schoen, Bumbach and Duda, finished in 11th place (3:21.02).

WESTMINSTER WOMEN FINISH 9TH AT WOOSTER

WOOSTER, Ohio–The Westminster College women’s swimming and diving program finished in ninth place at The College of Wooster Invitational Saturday evening.

The three-day event was held inside Wooster’s Timken Natatorium. Diving events were contested at the YMCA of Wooster’s Ellen Shapiro Natatorium.

Host Wooster won the team title with 1792.50 points. Westminster accumulated 417 points.

Senior Christina Loewe (Austin, Texas, Veritas Academy) scored a 10th-place finish in the 200 backstroke, registering a time of 2 minutes, 16.75 seconds. Sophomore Annabelle Turner (Butler, Pa., Butler) was 11th in the 200 butterfly (2:23.51).

Senior Sara Swanson (Avondale, Ariz., Odyssey Institute for Advanced and International Studies (OIAIS)) finished 13th in the 100 IM (1:10.48), senior Sara MacMurdo (Pittsburgh, Pa., Carlynton) was 13th in the 100 freestyle (55.17) and senior Isabella Barnabei (Oakland, N.J., Indian Hills) was 13th in the 200 butterfly (2:24.82).

Senior Amber Krebs (Whitewater, Wis., Whitewater) finished 15th in the 1650 (19:55.53) and was 24th in the 200 backstroke (2:27.20). Sophomore Preslie Bodine (Poland, Ohio, Poland Seminary) was 18th in the 200 breaststroke (2:46.35) while freshman Taylor Moats (Corry, Pa., Corry) finished 23rd in the 200 breaststroke (2:55.37).

Westminster’s 400 freestyle relay, comprised of Krebs, Moats, Loewe and MacMurdo, finished in 12th place (3:57.68).

ORANGE ALUMS LOOK TO REPRESENT AMERICA IN PARIS

PEPPER PIKE, OH- Orange High School alumnae Janie Boyle ’19 and Lily Klinginsmith ’22 are making waves at the red, white, and blue Olympic Trials! These talented athletes are showcasing their skills on the national stage, bringing pride to their alma mater.

Lily Klinginsmith, a multi-NCAA swimming champion representing Brown University, competed in the 100 butterfly earlier this week in Indianapolis, finishing in the top 58 in the country. Her outstanding performance highlights her dedication and talent in the pool.

Janie Boyle, diving for The Ohio State University, is recognized as one of the top divers in the USA. She competed in the preliminary 10M Platform competition, further establishing her reputation as a diver to watch.

Congratulations to both Janie and Lily, pictured together at the 2019 State Championships with the OHS team, for being selected for the Olympic Trials!
