CANFIELD, OH-  The South Range Raiders volleyball team continues to garner immense support from a community that embodies solidarity and resilience. Celebrations were in full swing at GiAngelos on October 1st, as Head Coach TJ Irons, affectionately known as “Coach Irons” by his players, shared his thoughts and experiences during an engaging conversation with TJ Yokley, host of the YSN Podcast.

The Raiders recently secured their 10th victory of the season, a testament to their dedication and tireless efforts. Coach Irons praised the unique bond and unwavering support the South Range community offers its sports teams. “It’s the best place to live, teach, and raise kids,” said Irons, highlighting the collective spirit that thrives in adversity.

Coach Irons, who has been an integral part of South Range since 2000, described the heartfelt support he received during his personal setbacks. “When there’s adversity, everybody sticks with each other,” he emphasized.

The Raiders volleyball team faces formidable opponents both within and outside their league, including state-ranked Gerard and one-loss Blakeview. Despite a grueling schedule that saw the team endure seven consecutive away matches, they return home for their final three games with renewed vigor.

Irons commends his players for their remarkable selflessness and willingness to adapt to new roles, mentioning senior Ella’s commendable switch to the middle position when needed. Their character and teamwork, he believes, will propel them strongly into the upcoming playoffs.

As the calendar turns to October and the thrill of Halloween approaches, Coach Irons shared a light-hearted memory of a college Halloween night where he donned a homemade Chewbacca costume. When it comes to Halloween treats, Snickers and Kit Kats are his go-to, much to the delight of candy enthusiasts.

With its vibrant communal support and dedicated athletes, South Range’s volleyball journey this season celebrates not only the spirit of competition but also the unwavering camaraderie that defines this exceptional community.
