BRANCH BLANKS MARLINGTON

BELOIT, OH- In what turned out to be a historic matchup, West Branch celebrated its 400th football victory in school history by delivering a resounding 56-0 triumph over Marlington in a game that showcased both their offensive prowess and defensive dominance.

The West Branch Warriors entered the game with an impressive 6-1 record and a perfect 2-0 standing in the Eastern Buckeye Conference. Their defense had been on an incredible streak, securing their third consecutive shutout, a feat not seen since 1990. The Warriors were eager to continue their winning ways as they looked ahead to hosting Alliance in their next matchup, especially after Alliance’s upset loss to Carrollton, which also now stands at 2-0 in the league.

Boston Mulinix emerged as the star of the game, leading the Warriors with an outstanding performance. He carried the ball 16 times for a remarkable 197 yards, finding the end zone four times, including a historic 99-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, setting a new school record. Beau Alazaus also played a crucial role, passing for 217 yards and contributing three touchdowns through the air.

The scoring frenzy for West Branch began early in the game and continued throughout:

– The Warrior defense got in on the action as Zach Coffee returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown.
– Beau Alazaus connected with Jeremiah Thomas for a 42-yard touchdown pass, further extending the lead.
– Cooper Anderson added another touchdown reception from Alazaus, this time for 10 yards.
– Boston Mulinix showcased his versatility with a 20-yard rushing touchdown, his second of the game.
– Mulinix continued to find the end zone, this time with a 1-yard rushing touchdown.
– The highlight of the game came when Mulinix broke free for a historic 99-yard touchdown run.
– To cap off the impressive performance, Grady Close caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Jeremiah Thomas.

On the defensive side, West Branch demonstrated their dominance with an interception by Zach Coffee and a fumble recovery by Colby Smith. Additionally, they displayed a successful onside kick recovery by Lukas Black.

In contrast, Marlington struggled to find their footing in the game, tallying only 123 total yards of offense and failing to score any points.

West Branch’s victory not only marked a historic milestone but also showcased their excellence in both offense and defense, making them a formidable force in the Eastern Buckeye Conference.

QUAKERS MUSCLE THEIR WAY TO SIGNATURE WIN

ALLIANCE OH- It has been Marlington’s run of the EBC for the last couple of seasons. Their stacked roster has run their way to an undefeated conference record coming in to Wednesday night.  On Salem’s side of the battle, the last 3 meetings with Marlington did not go their way.  The Quakers have been trying to find a way past the Dukes. Wednesday night in a hostile environment they finally were able to impose their will on their conference rival.  Salem did what Salem does best, play lock down defense.  The talented Dukes team was held by far to their lowest point total of the season in Salem’s 41-35 win.

Abbie Davidson showed some tremendous toughness on the offensive side of the ball. She fought her way to a 13 point night to lead the way for Salem.  Rylee Hutton also got herself in to double figures with 10 points.  Lauryn Burton contributed 8 points to the cause.

Salem will go outside the conference on Saturday as they hit the road to play Ursuline.

WEST BRANCH DROPS DOWN ON THE DUKES

BELOIT OH- The West Branch boys basketball team picked up its third straight win on Friday by beating Marlington 40-37. The Warriors lost the first meeting, but were able to split the season series with its rival. West Branch has now won three straight games in a row all inside the EBC.

West Branch quickly jumped out to an 8-0 lead to start the game, but Marlington was able to weather the storm. Both teams made small runs in the first half as the game went back and forth. The Warriors had a 22-16 lead at the half. Marlington came out of halftime red hot outscoring the Warriors 18-7 and the momentum shifted back towards Marlington. Coach Brown had a plan though as the Warriors held the Dukes to just three points in the fourth quarter. That strong defensive effort was enough for West Branch to grab the close win.

Joey Jackson led the way with 13 points for West Branch. Thomas Egli had a solid performance with 8 points, while Jerimiah Thomas and Jaxon Robb each contributed 7 points. Mike Kanagy anchored down that Warrior defense and pulled down some key rebounds to keep possessions alive for the offense. Coach Brown is excited that his team is continuing to make positive strides throughout the season.

For Marlington, they unfortunately had no one score in double figures. Beau Himmelheber and Dyland Heatherington each scored 9 points. Casey Miller contributed 7 points, while Caden Bates added 6. After a great third quarter by the Dukes, it looked like it might have had an offensive explosion in the 4th quarter. Unfortunately, because of great defense by the Warriors, that did not happen.

With the win, West Branch improves to 7-5 (4-3) inside the EBC. The Warriors will travel to Lake Center Christian on Tuesday. With the Loss Marlington, drops to 6-8 on the Year. The Dukes will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they travel to Louisville.
