EAGLES KEEP AN EYE ON WINNING

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- In an impressive display of skill and determination, United delivered a commanding performance on Thursday night, securing a decisive victory on the road against Beaver Local with a final score of 52-23.

United’s offense was firing on all cylinders, led by Grace Knight who delivered an outstanding performance with a game-high 18 points. Kate Dees added 10 points to the scoring tally, while Addy Blazer and Grayson Kidder each contributed 7 points, highlighting the team’s balanced offensive attack.

Despite a valiant effort from Beaver Local, led by Calli Sorge with 7 points and Karsyn Bowyer with 6 points, they couldn’t overcome United’s dominant performance.

With this important win, United improves their record to an impressive 15-6 as they prepare to close out their regular season with a road matchup against East Liverpool. Meanwhile, Beaver Local, with a 6-16 record, completes their regular season and now awaits their tournament matchup on February 21st at Steubenville.

East Ashtabula, OH- In a showdown that echoed with the weight of tradition and nostalgia, the Edgewood Warriors squared off against the Geneva Eagles in their final home match of the season. The atmosphere was electric as the Edgewood faithful filled the stands to honor the departing seniors and witness a clash of titans on the wrestling mat.

Before the first whistle blew, the spotlight shone on three remarkable seniors: Zeke Lukas, Kyle Vencill, and Ben Wolfe. These seasoned athletes have poured their hearts into the Edgewood wrestling program, and their contributions were duly celebrated. Lukas and Vencill, in particular, were lauded for reaching the impressive milestone of 100 career wins each, a testament to their dedication and skill.

As the action unfolded, spectators were treated to a gripping spectacle of athleticism and determination. The match swung like a pendulum, with momentum shifting between the two teams in a back-and-forth struggle for supremacy. It was a contest where every point mattered, and every move held the potential to sway the outcome.

In a decisive moment at the 215-pound weight class, Chris Skwera emerged as the hero for the Warriors, securing a crucial pin that propelled his team to victory. With the scoreboard reading 35-33 in favor of Edgewood, the home crowd erupted in jubilation, savoring the sweet taste of triumph.

Throughout the evening, the Warriors showcased their prowess with a display of pinning combinations and strategic maneuvers. Joining Skwera in the ranks of pinning victors were Gregory Helmbright, Vencill, and Lukas, whose stellar performances ignited cheers from the stands. With the home victory secured, the Edgewood Warriors now set their sights on the next challenge: the sectional matches looming on the horizon. Fueled by their indomitable spirit and hunger for success, they march forward with unwavering resolve, ready to seize their destiny on the path to the state championship. VALLEY CHRISTIAN WINS BATTLE OF THE EAGLES

YOUNGSTOWN OH- In a thrilling matchup between EOAC rivals, Valley Christian asserted their dominance on their home court as they welcomed United and secured a commanding 58-42 victory.

Leading the scoring charge for Valley Christian was RaShaun Bell, who delivered a standout performance with an impressive 29 points. Jaylen Robinson contributed 9 points, while Alfred Coward added 7 points to the scoreboard, highlighting the team’s balanced offensive attack.

Despite a valiant effort from United, led by Jason Pratt with 14 points and Luke Courtney with 13 points, they couldn’t overcome Valley Christian’s determined performance.

With this important win, Valley Christian improves their record to 11-7 and looks to build on their momentum as they stay at home to host Heartland Christian on Friday. On the other hand, United, with an 8-11 record, will regroup and prepare for their upcoming matchup against Lisbon at home on Friday.

The game showcased Valley Christian’s strength and resilience, setting the stage for continued success as they push forward in the season.

DARNEY JOINS 1,000 POINT CLUB; BOARDMAN WALKS AWAY WITH WIN

BOARDMAN, OH- It’s not easy to cross the 1,000 point threshold in the first place, having to do it in enemy territory presents an additional challenge, but last night in Boardman, the community gave Warren JFK’s Ava Darney a warm, standing ovation as the JFK Senior sank the first bucket of the game from beyond the arc.  Darney came into the contest with 998 points in her historic career, and as JFK and Boardman did battle, the Boardman Spartans took center stage to celebrate their senior players in a  62-47 victory over the Eagles.

The game unfolded with a thrilling rhythm, as the Spartans’ seniors—Sam Duble, Mackenzie Riccitelli, and M.C. Werth—lit up the court with an impressive display of three-point shooting. All 11 of Boardman’s three-pointers came from the hands of these seasoned players, with Werth sinking 5, Duble nailing 4, and Riccitelli contributing 2.

Boardman’s dominance wasn’t just about long-range shots. They showcased a balanced offense, with four players reaching double digits. Duble and Sarah Bero led the charge with 16 points each, while Werth added 15 and Riccitelli battled foul trouble to secure 10 points.

Despite the intense competition, the Spartans’ victory was more than just about the scoreline. It was a heartfelt farewell to the seniors, who bid farewell to their home court in style. As the game concluded, Mikayla Rivera and Jocelynn Torres stepped up, allowing the seniors to bask in the well-deserved applause from the crowd.

Warren JFK’s Ava Darney led her team admirably with 17 points, reaching the milestone of 1,000 career points during the contest’s opening bucket. Didi Ryan and Gianna Pompelia also contributed with ten and eight points respectively for the Lady Eagles.

The Spartans expressed immense gratitude to their fans, whose energy and support fueled their performance throughout the game. With the regular season drawing to a close this Saturday against Salem, the team now gears up for the playoffs, with a home game scheduled against Massillon Perry on February 17th.

HUBBARD OH- As the Hubbard swim team clinched their first NE8 title, one name stood out among the rest: Izzy Summers. A senior captain, Summers’ leadership and skills have been instrumental in holding the team together and propelling them towards greatness.

Summers’ role as an anchor in the clinching race epitomized her value to the team. With nerves of steel and a calm demeanor, she delivered a performance that secured Hubbard’s historic victory. Her ability to stay composed in the biggest moments has been a defining trait throughout her career.

Behind Summers’ success lies a relentless work ethic and a deep love for the sport of swimming. From early morning practices to late-night meets, she has dedicated herself wholeheartedly to honing her skills and pushing the boundaries of her potential. Summers’ drive extends beyond personal accolades; she strives to leave her mark on the record books, aiming to break as many of her pool’s records as possible before graduation.

As the season progresses, Summers and her teammates are setting their sights on new challenges. With sectionals and districts on the horizon, they are determined to make more memories before the year comes to a close. Summers’ leadership, skills, and unwavering dedication continue to inspire her team as they chase their goals in the pool. JFK FINDS WINNING WIND

WARREN OH- Warren JFK showcased a powerful comeback on Friday, securing a resounding 81-36 victory against St. Thomas Aquinas. Nick Ryan led the charge with an impressive 20 points, closely followed by Michael Condoleon with 18 points and Nico Ciminero contributing 16 points. Henry Phillips added 9 points to the winning effort.

With this commanding win, Warren JFK improves their season record to 13-4 and looks forward to their next challenge, facing Gilmour Academy on Tuesday.

KNIGHT RIDES TO 1,000 POINTS

Despite a promising win earlier in the week, United couldn’t maintain their momentum as they faced Maplewood on Wednesday, falling at home with a final score of 63-43. The Eagles encountered a resilient Maplewood team that proved to be a tough opponent.

Grace Knight, however, achieved a significant milestone in the midst of the defeat, earning her 1000th career point. Knight’s accomplishment marks her as the fourth player in United’s girls program to reach this scoring milestone, a testament to her skill and dedication on the court. While the team faced challenges, Knight’s achievement stands as a bright spot in their basketball journey.

In terms of scoring for the Eagles, Addy Blazer led with 12 points, closely followed by Grace Knight with 11 points, and Grayson Kidder contributing 9 points.

With this setback, United’s record stands at 13-6. Undeterred, they are set to return to action promptly on Thursday, hosting East Palestine at home.

CLIPPERS STILL FLYING IN THE EOAC TITLE RACE

COLUMBIANA OH- In a pivotal clash within the EOAC, Columbiana maintained their pace on Tuesday night, securing a convincing 55-31 victory over United. The Clippers showcased their prowess on the court, leaving no room for doubt about their standing in the league.

Maddox Brown led the scoring charge for Columbiana with a stellar 15-point performance, supported by Seth Struharik and Alex Eusebio, who contributed 9 points each. Devin Daugherty added 7 points to the Clippers’ offensive effort, emphasizing the team’s well-rounded performance.

United, facing a determined Columbiana squad, battled through the contest with Luke Courtney leading their offensive efforts with 11 points.

CANFIELD OH- In a highly anticipated showdown on their home court, Canfield faced the formidable challenge of Warren JFK on Tuesday night. The Cardinals rose to the occasion, flexing their muscles to secure a decisive 65-53 victory and maintain control throughout the contest.

Leading the charge for Canfield was Dom Cruz, whose remarkable performance yielded an impressive 29 points. Ben Weaver contributed 13 points, while Sam Castronova added 10 points, and Tony Russo chipped in with 9 points. The Cardinals’ well-rounded offensive effort proved pivotal in keeping Warren JFK at bay.
