MCKINSTRY COACHES 1000, TIGERS TURN AWAY EP

WELLSVILLE, OH- It was a special night in the Tiger’s Den, but it was kept secret until after the game.  Wellsville Coach Dan McKinstry was coaching in his 1000th match, and it was against a team he’s very familiar with- East Palestine.  It’s the very team he started his career with.

Leading the way last night was Emma Smith with 14 kills, Emily McNicol had 6 aces and 23 assists.  Meaghan Nixon dug out 18, while Greta Cartwright was key in the rally in the first, adding four aces and 11 assists.  Jenna McNicol had 30 helpers, and the freshmen tandem of Alana Amato and Aubri Ramsey had 10 kills each.

For East Palestine (6-4, 4-2) Jami Jones had 6 points and a dig, Emily Berger had a half dozen kills, and 4 digs, while Week 1 (and first-ever volleyball) Baird Brother’s Big Dog of the Valley winner, Morgan Cheurco had 18 helpers and one point.

BLUE DEVILS BURN BULLDOGS 51-0

EAST PALESTINE- It’s been a tough couple of weeks in Bulldog Country.  A week after East Palestine was shut out 60-0 by state runners-up Girard, Western Reserve came into town with a chip on their shoulder.

The Devils came to EP looking for redemption, and redemption is what they received.  The Devils came out on fire with 30 points in the opening frame followed by a pair of scores in the second.  Shutdown defense prevailed as well with a final resting place of 51-0, and Western Reserve evened their record at 1-1.

Nick Cavoulas went 7 for 9 for 189 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead Reserve through the air.  Luke Kilbert led receivers with a catch and 63 yards and a touchdown reception, and on the ground, it was Jimmy Mayberry with 42 yards on a carry that produced a touchdown.

For East Palestine, Dominick Cathers went 10 for 18 for 81 yards through the air.  Dalton Vance led the receiving corps with five catches for 39 yards.

The Bulldogs face Campbell in Week 3 for their first road trip.

FEED THEM MO, GIRARD ROUTES BULLDOGS TO BEGIN CAMPAIGN

EAST PALESTINE, OH- It’s a new era in both East Palestine, and Girard as far as their football teams are concerned.  With the departures of several seniors on both sides, the two teams gave a look of what the season may hold.  For one side, it’s a reloading year, while the other may be looking to rebuild around their youth.  Girard started the game with purpose and poise and kept that pace throughout a 60-0 route of East Palestine at Reed Memorial Stadium on Friday.

Girard posted up 27 points in the first quarter alone, keyed by a 74-yard TD reception by Toledo recruit, Nick Malito who finished his night with 100 yards on 3 catches.  Andrew DelGarbino led the offensive attack behind center throwing for a pair of touchdowns and 130 yards while going 4/6 with a pick in abbreviated time.  On the ground, Morgan Clardy led the way on five rushes stacking up 158 yards with two trips to the endzone including a 76-yard rush to start the game.

For East Palestine, Dominick Cathers went 8/22 for 71 yards and an interception through the air.  The leading Bulldog receiver was Dalton Vance with a pair of receptions for 37 yards.

The Bulldogs (0-1) will look to rebound against MVAC opponent, Western Reserve while Girard will make their 2019 home debut against West Branch.  Both games can be heard on YSN.

EAST PALESTINE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH TONY FOSTER (EP 1)

A new era has begun in East Palestine.  But we’re sure you’ve heard that dialogue already, what we will tell you, however, is that the Bulldogs are going to be a wildcard in the EOAC.  Just as in years past, the conference up for grabs with several teams trying to find their niche before Week 1.

We sat down with Coach Foster to go over what is lost, and what has been found in the early stages of the 2019 campaign.

What wrinkles will be in the plan this year, who are the key players, and of course, what is Coach Tony’s favorite sub at Gorby’s?

All that and more in this brand new episode of East Palestine Coach’s Corner with Tony Foster.
