CANFIELD JUMPS INTO DISTRICTS

CANFIELD OH- Canfield made quick work of East on Thursday, steamrolling to a 15-0 win behind a hit parade and lights-out pitching.

Makayla Brown was locked in at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four singles and setting the tone for a Cardinals offense that racked up 15 total hits. The bats were hot from the jump, as Canfield lit up the scoreboard with seven runs in the first inning. A mix of timely knocks, errors, and a two-run double from the middle of the order broke things wide open before East could catch its breath.

The second inning wasn’t any easier. Five more runs came across—highlighted by a three-run double and another RBI two-bagger—giving Canfield a 12-0 cushion.

Pitching? Untouchable. Caylee Ortiz was dealing, spinning three no-hit innings with eight punchouts and zero walks. Adalee Crowgey came in to close it down, tossing two clean frames with three more strikeouts.

Canfield’s lineup stayed dialed in through the third and fourth, adding insurance with a couple walks and errors that pushed the lead even further out of reach. East couldn’t generate anything offensively and struggled to keep pace defensively.

With the win, Canfield now turns its focus to Friday’s AAC title clash with Boardman—one of the biggest games of the year. After that, it’s back home Tuesday for the district semifinal, and the Cardinals are looking dangerous on both sides of the ball.

STRUTHERS STITCHES TOGETHER DOMINANT WIN

YOUNGSTOWN OH-  Struthers came out swinging and never looked back, rolling past East 13-0 in a one-sided affair.

Clare Coppola was a problem all game long, racking up two hits—a double and a triple—while driving in four and crossing the plate twice. Samantha Minno chipped in with a pair of knocks, an RBI, and a run scored, while Riley Guy added a double and came around twice.

In the circle, Katie Morris was in full control. The righty tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just one hit and punching out eight to keep East off the board.

SOUTHEAST PUTS THE BEARS IN HIBERNATION

YOUNGSTOWN OH-  Bradley Dillon was a tough out all night, going 3-for-4 and driving in a pair to help Southeast cruise past Youngstown East, 10-2, on Wednesday.

The Pirates got going early with a sac fly in the first, then opened things up in the third with a string of extra-base hits. Bradee Blankenship doubled, Dillon followed with a single, and Caleb Miller smashed another double to stretch the lead.

The real damage came in the fourth. Southeast only needed one hit to plate five runs, taking full advantage of a couple miscues and some heads-up base running. Dillon came through again with a two-run single to highlight the frame.

Miller got the start and was lights out, tossing three hitless innings with five punchouts and no walks. Southeast kept it clean the rest of the way with Caden Dillon, Cohen Richardson, and Nate Muccino each working scoreless innings out of the pen.

Miller finished with two hits, and the defense backed up the strong pitching effort with a flawless game in the field—no errors, and Dillon led the way defensively with 13 chances handled.

Youngstown East scattered a few hits and scratched across two runs thanks to RBIs from Yadiel Lopez and Frankie Rodriguez-Santos, but couldn’t keep up with the Pirates’ steady attack. Southeast hits the road Friday for a matchup with Waterloo.

DRAGONS DOMINANT AS EVER

YOUNGSTOWN OH-  Niles took care of business Monday, rolling past East 7-1. The Red Dragons jumped out early with a run in the first off a Brixton Gilmour RBI single. East answered back in the bottom half with a groundout to even it up at 1-1, but after that, it was all Niles.

They grabbed the lead for good in the third, cashing in a pair of RBI singles from Brady Court and Joseph Lehman to go up 3-1.

Court was solid on the hill, going the distance. He gave up just three hits and one run across seven innings, striking out six and working around five walks.

Niles stayed patient at the plate all game, drawing 10 walks to go with their six hits. Anthony Mymo led the way with three free passes, while Gilmour, Mymo, and AJ Yost ran wild on the bases — the Red Dragons racked up 10 steals in total. They also stayed clean defensively, not committing a single error, with Lehman handling seven chances.

East managed just three hits on the day but turned a couple of double plays and stayed sharp in the field without an error. These two teams will run it back Tuesday, this time at Niles.

WILKES PAVES THE WAY FOR GIRARD

YOUNGSTOWN OH-  Caylee Wilkes was on a mission Thursday, driving in four runs on four hits to lead Girard to a 23-1 beatdown over East.

Wilkes came out swinging, dropping a single in the second, hammering a pair of doubles in the third and fourth, then capping it off with a triple in the fifth — driving in a run each time she stepped up.

Girard wasted no time putting the pressure on, cashing in three walks in the top of the first to grab an early lead. Gianna Saxon drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home the first run of the day.

The second inning turned into a parade of runs. Wilkes singled to center to plate one, Gabby Doran ripped a double to left for another, and both Kyra Bell and Riley Collins got plunked with the bases loaded to force in a couple more.

Girard kept the bats hot in the third. Wilkes doubled down the line, then the Indians kept stacking runs as Brooklyn Broll walked and Collins and Ava Serrano got hit by pitches, while Abby Iceman worked a walk. East just couldn’t stop the bleeding.

Broll grabbed the win for Girard, throwing two hitless innings, striking out five and walking one. Doran cleaned up in relief, spinning three innings without giving up a hit, striking out four but walking four. East’s starter, Ellie, had a rough outing, getting tagged for 17 runs — 16 earned — over just a little more than three innings.

Girard piled up 14 hits when it was all said and done. Wilkes and Quinn Wilster turned into a nightmare for East, each stacking four hits while batting back-to-back. Doran chipped in two hits of her own. The Indians also showed patience at the plate, drawing 15 walks, with Iceman, Serrano, Saxon, and Broll each taking two free passes. Next up, Girard heads into another matchup, taking on Chaney on Friday.

BULLDOGS CHASE OFF THE BEARS

EAST PALESTINE OH- Cale Moraski couldn’t miss at the plate Friday, going a perfect 3-for-3 to help East Palestine knock off East, 4-1.

Moraski stayed hot all night, picking up singles in the first, fifth, and seventh. Blake Noel handled business on the bump, striking out 13 and giving up just three hits and one run over seven innings. The righty was locked in from the jump.

East Palestine got on the board early with a Phoenix Marvin RBI single in the first. They tacked on another in the second after an East miscue in the field. Brad Bartels came through in the clutch later in the game, driving in two from the seven-hole.

Kealin Simon added two hits of his own, and the Bulldogs were a menace on the bases—swiping nine bags total. Marvin, Simon, and Moraski each had multiple steals, keeping pressure on East all game long. They also turned a double play and played clean defense behind Noel.

East got their lone run from Francisco Rodriguez Santos, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI. The Golden Bears managed four stolen bases of their own, but couldn’t crack Noel’s rhythm. Next up, East Palestine heads to Chaney for a Saturday matchup.

LAKEVIEW HAS SUCCESS OUTSIDE OF THE CONFERENCE

Drew Shapiro and Bryce Roberts led the way for Canfield with 11 points each. Ray McCune and Frank Tarantino added 8 apiece, while Ben Weaver chipped in 7 as the Cardinals spread the scoring around.

For East, Tyris Davis finished with 8 points, while Darnell Wright, Michael Franklin, and Aiden Kearns each contributed 6. The Golden Bears couldn’t find an answer for Canfield’s firepower.

Next up, Canfield stays on the road Tuesday with a trip to Marlington. East will look to regroup on December 20th when they face Akron North.

HUBBARD HAS IT ALL WORKING

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Hubbard is off to a scorching start, picking up their second straight win on Monday with a 48-38 victory over East. The Eagles are making a statement early, taking down another Steel Valley Conference squad.

Khamyah Howell led the way for Hubbard, pouring in 14 points to pace the offense. Jillian Palumbo and Cara Green each added 8 points, keeping the pressure on East all night. For the Golden Bears, Brianna Wright dropped 13 points, and Alyssa Crankfield chipped in 11, but it wasn’t enough to slow down Hubbard’s momentum.

The Eagles will look to stay hot on Wednesday when they hit the road to face Jefferson. East will try to bounce back on December 2nd when they travel to Liberty.
