TROY SISTERS LEAD LADY QUAKERS TO SWEEP OF CARROLLTON

CARROLLTON, OH- After a competitive week, the Salem Quakers regrouped and made a strong showing against Carrollton playing a solid game, 25-13, 25-6, 25-13. For the Quakers, Taylor Troy started off the sets strong scoring 18 points and 3 aces while her sister Rylie had 4 aces and 3 kills. Also for the Quakers, Elly Exline had 13 kills, 5 digs, and 3 aces while Jaden Hamilton added 4 blocks and Kaylee Freeman added 18 assists. The Quakers will host Canton South on Thursday.

In JV action Salem won 25-23, 25-16. for the Quakers Autumn Little had 4 kills while Kylie Skinner added 8 digs.

In Freshman action, the girls won 3-0

LATE SURGE FROM QUAKERS DIVIDES UNITED RECORD

SALEM, OH- A near-sellout crowd in Sebo Stadium witnessed the relentless Salem Quakers finish strong against their rival United Eagles on Friday 22-14.  The Quakers had a 2-point lead late in the third quarter before exploding for a pair of scores to seal their second win of the season.

The Quakers were paced by Niko Walter’s 16-24 performance that featured 148 yards through the air and 2 touchdowns while rushing for 117 yards on the ground.  On the ground, Cade Campolito had 15 rushes for 53 yards and a trip to the endzone.  The top receiver for the red and black attack was Jax Booth with 8 grabs and 44 yards.

United leaders were Bodey Kiko going 7-11 with 139 yards while Tyler Lippiatt had the ground attack paced with 83 yards on eight carries.  Nate Miller had a big game receiving with 5 catches for 118 yards.

United (1-1) will return home next week to face Brookfield, while the Quakers (2-0) head to East Liverpool to take on the 1-1 Potters.

 

SALEM FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 2) WITH RON JOHNSON

Coming off a week one victory and one of the best high school football catches of all time, the Salem Quakers are looking to improve to 2-0 against the United Eagles in week two.

YSN’s Jarrod Niederhiser sat down with Coach Johnson this week to talk about what Salem has to do to start off this season 2-0.

 

SALEM OPENS UP CONFERENCE ACTION WITH WIN OVER MINERVA

MINERVA, OH-  Salem opened up in EBC action on the road against the Minerva Lions and beat them 3-0. For the Quakers, Kaylee Freeman had 4 aces, 9 assists, and two kills, Rylie Troy added 7 kills, 4 aces, Elly Exline added 7 kills and 13 digs while Jenna McClish had 32 digs. The Quakers will continue EBC play with Alliance at home on Thursday.

In JV play, Salem won 2-0. For the Quakers, Emma Hochadel had 13 assists, And Autumn Little and Hannah Bowers had 3 kills apiece. Both teams are now 4-0.

SALEM DOWN LADY SPARTANS IN 4

BOARDMAN, OH- Boardman couldn’t get past Salem’s Defense as the Lady Quakers prevailed 3-1 on the road to move on to 3-0 on the season. Defensively for the Quakers, Jenna McClish had 38 digs while Rylie Troy proved she could handle any position with 6 kills, 9 assists, and 18 digs. Four-year starter Elly Exline showed her veteran status by contributing 11 kills, 16 digs, and 2 aces while Jaden Hamilton and Hayden Carner added 10 kills apiece. Kaelyn Helmick put up a huge wall with 4 blocks while Taylor Troy and Kaylee Freeman set up the offense with 11 assists and 9 assists respectively.

In JV action the Quakers won 25-19, 18-25, and 25-20. For the Quakers, Zoie Reid added 6 kills by being set up by Emma Hochadel with 18 assists. In the backcourt, Kylie Skinner added 20 digs. The Quakers will travel to Minerva on Tuesday.

HUTTON MEDALS AS LADY QUAKERS JET PAST COLUMBIANA

SALEM, OH- The Salem Lady Quakers Golf Team (5-3) set the tone on the course Monday afternoon with a 211-220 victory over Columbiana.  Leading the way was Kelly Hutton who shot a 44 to lead the scorecard for both teams.  Columbiana’s Morgan Dunlap shot a very respectable 47 in pursuit.

The Lady Quakers also had Sloan Rudibaugh shoot a 50, followed by Paige Bailey (57), and Lexi Miller (60.)

For Columbiana, Jessica Himes (54), EmmaRae Foy(59), and Katrina Patrick (60) rounded out the Clippers final tallies.

LADY QUAKERS SHUTOUT URSULINE

SALEM, OH- The Quakers opened up at home beating Ursuline 3-0 in straight sets. For the Lady Quakers, Elly Exline had 4 aces and 10 kills, Rylie Troy had 6 aces and 3 kills, and Jaden Hamilton added 10 kills and 2 blocks.

The Quakers will travel to Boardman on Saturday.

MARLINGTON SINKS PUTTS AND QUAKERS IN EBC ACTION

SALEM, OH- The Salem Boys Golf Team took a tough loss on Wednesday evening against rival Marlington 167-201.

For the Quakers, Dylan Ulrich shot the best round with a 45, while Lane Rhodes dialed a 47.  Shooting in the 50’s were Nick Colbert (53) and Carter Reid (56.)

Salem falls to 1-4 overall and in the EBC.

MORE THAN LUCKY: IRISH BLANK SALEM 6-0

SALEM, OH- The Salem Quakers suffered an early-season defeat at the hands of the Ursuline Irish on Wednesday.

Salem takes a loss from Ursuline 6-0. For Salem, Tommy Goodchild was credited 12 saves in goal. Max Kemets was also in goal with 3 saves.

Ursuline’s offensive attack was led by Mario Ruano, Jacob Coman, Patrick Fallon, Cam Forsyth, Ryan Coman and Alex LaPlante who all tallied goals while Calder Lenhart had two saves in net.

Salem’s next game will be home on Thursday, August 22nd vs South Range at 7pm while Ursuline (2-0) is scheduled to play Hubbard Saturday at 10am.

URSULINE TRIUMPHANT ON THE ROAD AGAINST SALEM

SALEM, OH- The Lady Quakers dropped their home opener 2-1 to Youngstown Ursuline. The Lady Quakers opened the scoring with a goal by Abby Perry.

After Ursuline put two on the board in the second half the Lady Quakers played an intense 20 minutes in an attempt to equalize.

While the Lady Quakers were able to generate multiple opportunities, they came up short in finding the back of the net. Sam Moore recorded 7 saves in goal. The team returns to action Monday 8/26 at home against Howland. Kickoff is at 7 pm.
