SHAW PUNCHES TICKET SOUTH TO PLAY

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- It’s been a long road for Cardinal Mooney standout baseball star, Ethan Shaw.  He’s seen players from all over the area sign their commitments to various colleges in the country to continue their craft of baseball at the next level.  Shaw had some strong offers but decided to hold out for one that called to him, one that felt right, that one “magic moment” that would give him the warm and fuzzies about the effort he had put in on and off the diamond.

Then Gardner-Webb came calling.

The Division 1 School from North Carolina saw potential in the Cardinal shortstop that we all know and love here in Northeast Ohio.  Head Coach Jim Chester saw a hungry young man, who had the raw talent and ability to make a difference at the highest level of college baseball.

Shaw suddenly had his blessing, and opportunity to go south and play baseball as he’d always dreamt of.

Although the pandemic stole his junior season (one of major importance in recruiting) it would not steal what Shaw had worked so hard to earn; the right to sign with a D1 squad.

With a year left in the hopper, Shaw had an outstanding summer at Cene Park, showcasing his talents and helping his team to the playoffs.  After the abbreviated season, Ethan joined the prestigious Allegheny Pirates to hone his skills and stack up against new competition from outlying areas.

When baseball returns to Ohio this spring, Shaw hopes to lead his team deep into the playoffs and help leave a legacy for his classmates and return the shine to Cardinal Mooney Baseball.

We had the chance to catch up with Ethan this week to discuss his decision and all the pieces and emotions that came along with it.
