CRESTVIEW GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH AARON BLATCH 1/22/25

COLUMBIANA OH- In a riveting episode of YSN Live, hosts Anthony Hartwig and DJ Yokley sat down with Aaron Blatch, the head coach of Crestview’s undefeated girls’ basketball team. The conversation illuminated Blatch’s coaching philosophy, team dynamics, and the journey that has brought his program to the apex of success in the NBAC.

Blatch, who has helmed the team for several seasons, credits the success to the exceptional character and talent of his players, emphasizing the collective effort put in by the entire coaching staff, including his brother and fellow coaches John Gallagher and Cassie Spate. He remarked, “We have a lot of great kids and amazing players. Seeing them improve individually and collectively is very rewarding for us.” Patience has been a cornerstone of Blatch’s approach, as Anthony Hartwig noted. Blatch discussed the importance of steady progress and the contributions of previous teams in laying the groundwork for their current achievements. “Anything worthwhile is going to take some time,” Blatch shared, highlighting the collaborative effort across different levels of the program.

The episode also touched on the team’s strategically strengthened schedule, featuring games against high-caliber opponents like Hoban, Streetsboro, and Massillon Washington. Blatch explained that the tougher schedule is part of a long-term strategy to prepare the team for the postseason. “We wanted the schedule with the big picture in mind,” Blatch stated, underscoring the importance of challenging matchups in building resilience and skill. A recurring theme in the discussion was the remarkable team chemistry and selflessness among players, which has been pivotal in their dominant season. Yokley praised this aspect, likening their coordinated play to synchronized swimming. Blatch agreed, noting the unique talents each player brings to the floor and the absence of ego-driven competition. “It speaks to the character of the team,” he said.

As the season progresses, Blatch remains focused on further improvement and maintaining the team’s high standards. He acknowledged the challenges posed by winter weather disruptions but remained unfazed, stressing that off-days can sometimes be beneficial for the team’s overall well-being. Blatch’s leadership and the team’s collective effort have positioned Crestview as a formidable force in high school basketball. The future looks bright as they head toward the postseason, aiming to capitalize on their hard work and talent. THE PRICE OF GREATNESS IS HIGH

BOARDMAN OH– As the Friday night lights illuminate Spartan Stadium, the legacy of Boardman football is being rewritten, and at the forefront of this movement is senior Anthony Price. Determined to elevate the program, Price, along with his fellow seniors, is spearheading a transformative season as detailed in an exclusive interview with YSN.  “It’s definitely better wanting to leave the Boardman program better than what we have,” says Price, reflecting on the achievements of this year’s senior class. This determination was evident from the summer training sessions, where despite a challenging 1-9 season the previous year, the team showed resilience and a willingness to adapt to coach Dota’s new wing T offense.

A pivotal moment came in week one against Kenston, a team that had bested them the prior season. “That definitely set us forward a lot,” Price explains, recounting how overcoming early setbacks and securing a victory as underdogs boosted team morale.
The Spartan’s home turf has become a fortress, with a nearly spotless record, a testament to the supportive community and a passionate student section. Price attributes much of the team’s cohesion to the familial bond shared both among players and with the coaching staff, remarking, “Even though they’re our coaches, I still feel like they’re friends to me.”

As a dedicated student-athlete maintaining a stellar GPA of 3.76, Price demonstrates discipline not only on the field but also in the classroom. With aspirations of pursuing mechanical engineering, his academic prowess is evident. “I’ve always looked up to being on a Friday night,” he shares, encapsulating the pride and commitment he feels representing Boardman. Off the field, Price’s leadership extends to fostering a strong foundation for younger athletes, ensuring the program’s continued success. His reflective nature and forward-thinking approach make him a role model for the next generation of Spartans.

In their final guaranteed home game, Price and his teammates aim to secure a victory that honors their hard work and commitment. “We’re going to have a great practice, watch film, and make sure that we’re ready for this game,” he asserts, embodying the dedication and strategy that has come to define their season. Anthony Price’s journey is a narrative of resilience, leadership, and aspiration, marking a new chapter in Boardman football. As he and his fellow seniors gear up for what could be a concluding game at Spartan Stadium, their legacy promises a bright future for the upcoming classes.

On a lighter note, Ignazio shared his own fair favorites, including corndogs and Strauss’s malt, a nostalgic treat from his childhood.
