RESERVE BRINGS BADGER DOWN

BERLIN CENTER OH- Western Reserve would not be denied Wednesday night as they battled their way to a four set victory over Badger (25-22 25-14 21-25 25-13).

Dani Vuletich had a great night finishing with 21 kills to lead the Blue Devils offense. Gianna Paris was key to the Reserve attack as she set up 30 assists. Paris also played good defense collecting 9 digs. Alyvia Hughes put in a double double with 11 kills, and 10 digs. Lisa Eichert also finished with a double double totaling 11 kills, and 15 digs.

Western Reserve will advance to the district championship where they’ll travel to Wellsville. That match is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00.

RESERVE RAKES WARRIORS TO GO TO DISTRICTS

BERLIN CENTER OH- Western Reserve got their feet wet in tournament play on Saturday with a sectional final against Brookfield. The Blue Devils swept the Warriors to advance to the district semifinals (25-21 25-9 25-12).

Gianna Paris collected an impressive double double with 16 assists, and 11 digs. She also served up 5 aces. Dani Vuletich led the offense in kills with 13. Vuletich also finished with 5 digs. Kayla Owen led the defense with 16 digs.

Western Reserve now advances to the district semifinals where they’ll host the four seed Badger on Wednesday. That match is slated to start at 6:00.

RESERVE WASHES AWAY WATERLOO

BERLIN CENTER OH- Western Reserve capped off the home portion of their regular season schedule on Tuesday with a quick sweep of Waterloo (25-7 25-8 25-10).

Lisa Eichert picked up a double double for the Devils. She finished with 11 kills, 13 digs, and 3 aces. Dani Vuletich also finished with 11 kills. She added 4 blocks. Gianna Paris had an impressive night with 16 assists, 8 digs, and 4 aces.

Western Reserve has a big test on Thursday as they travel to Wellsville. Waterloo will travel to East Palestine on Thursday.

AULET GETS 2,000 RIDGE TAKES CONTROL OF MVAC

BERLIN CENTER OH- There was a lot on the line Thursday night in the match between Western Reserve and Mineral Ridge. The winner would control their own fate in the hunt for a MVAC title. The Blue Devils could pull even with the Rams with a win. Ridge could put plenty of distance between them and Reserve if they won. Also, Rams senior setter was in search of her 2000th career assist. It all worked out the way the Rams wanted as they swept the Blue Devils, and Aulet reached her career milestone (25-22 25-17 25-22).

It was noticeable right away how much was on the line for both these teams. The first set was fierce. No lead got above two for a large portion of the set. Emotions ran high on some controversial calls, players on both sides were diving all over the court to get balls up in the air. You could feel the desire to win in the air. Even the 15% capacity crowd made their presence felt. In the end, the big difference in the game was unforced errors by the Blue Devils. They totaled 18 attack errors, and 7 service errors. Mineral Ridge only made 4 attack errors. Even in the two sets that were tightly contested, Reserve couldn’t make the last push because of mistakes. That being said they still lost two of the three sets by a combined 6 points. With all the errors, the fact that still remained competitive is a testament to their team.

In the second set, Aulet earned her 2,000th career assist on a kill by Morgan Sigley.

Sigley led the Rams with 10 kills. Katelyn Lesko still has a strong night totaling 8 kills. Megan Gerberry led the Rams in digs with 13. Jersey Tucker who came up with two late clutch kills down the stretch, including the one that ended the match also was in double digit digs with 10. Aulet finished with 29 assists.

Dani Vuletich led the Blue Devils with 8 kills and 4 blocks. Alyvia Hughes also tallied 8 kills from the outside. Gianna Paris recorded a double double for the Devils, finishing with 20 assists, and 12 digs.

Mineral Ridge will look to stay unbeaten in the league on Tuesday as they host Waterloo. Western Reserve will try to bounce back as they host Lowellville on Tuesday.

BLUE DEVILS LAY SIEGE TO SEBRING

BERLIN CENTER OH- Western Reserve list a tough match on Monday night to Girard in five sets. On Tuesday, they let out all their frustrations out on Sebring winning a decisive sweep (25-10 25-7 25-7).

Dani Vuletich and Alyvia Hughes both led Reserve with 7 kills. Vuletich added 5 blocks, and Hughes captures 15 digs. Gianna Paris set up 17 assists, and also finished with 4 aces.

For Sebring, Blake Thomas led with 6 kills. Devyn Reggi finished with 9 digs. Mallory Harshman had 6 assists, and an ace.

Western Reserve moves on to their second matchup against Mineral Ridge at home on Thursday. Sebring moves on to host Jackson Milton.

RESERVE CAUSES BLUE JAYS PROBLEMS

BERLIN CENTER OH- In the first of two meetings between Western Reserve and Jackson Milton, it was the Blue Devils who came out on top with a sweep of the Blue Jays (25-16 25-18 25-22).

Dani Vuletich continued to be dominant in the front row with 16 kills and 3 blocks. Alyvia Hughes had a strong performance with 12 digs, 7 kills, and 2 aces. Gianna Paris clocked in a double double with 27 assists and 11 digs.

For Jackson Milton, Kelsie Taylor led the way in kills with 9. Camryn Mitchell Player fantastix defense and had a match-high 30 digs.

These two teams will play again on Thursday night this time at Jackson Milton.

RESERVE THE LAST DEVILS STANDING

MCDONALD OH- Western Reserve and McDonald clashed on Tuesday night in a battle of the Blue Devils. This night was all about Reserve though as they swept McDonald on the road (25-13 25-18 25-14).

Dani Vuletich led the Blue Devils offense with 12 kills, and 3 blocks. She also finished with 2 digs and 2 assists. Lisa Eichert was also in double digits with 10 kills. Eichert also collected 6 digs, 3 aces, and a block. Gianna Paris and Kayla Owen both led Reserve in digs with 9 each. Paris also set up 23 assists.

Western Reserve will now host 8-2 Jackson Milton on Wednesday. McDonald drops their record to 6-6 and they’ll travel to Lowellville on Thursday.

BLUE DEVILS DON‘T MISS A STEP

YOUNGSTOWN OH- After stopping a match in five sets to Crestview over the weekend, Western Reserve has plenty of frustrations to let out on Mooney Monday night. They did just that, as they quickly swept the Cardinals (25-16 25-13 25-9).

Dani Vuletich has a big night finishing with 20 kills on the night. Gianna Paris  was on point setting up 28 assists and collecting 7 digs. Alyvia Hughes has 11 digs, and swung for 5 kills.

For Mooney, Katie Hough has 7 kills, and 7 digs. Leanne Chandler has 9 digs. Raegan Filipowicz finished with 4 kills.

Western Reserve will build on the win and travel to McDonald on Tuesday. Mooney has a couple of days off before they host Boardman on Thursday.

RESERVE TAKES CARE OF LOWELLVILLE

LOWELLVILLE OH- Western Reserve kept their good tunes rolling on Thursday with a sweep of Lowellville (25-12 25-6 25-8).

Dani Vuletich led a balanced offense gathering 11 kills. Vuletich also has 2 blocks and an ace. Lisa Eichert added  8 kills, 8 digs, and 3 aces. Alyvia Hughes has 11 digs, 7 kills, and 3 aces. Gianna Paris racked up 19 assists, 5 aces, and a kill.

Western Reserve will look to stay in the win column on Tuesday as they host Springfield. Lowellville will look to get back on track Saturday as they host Campbell.

DEVILS SHINE ON SENIOR NIGHT

BERLIN CENTER OH- It was senior night in Western Reserve, and the Devils honored 4 seniors. The Devils had a great game plan and executed it to a tee to earn a sweep of a tough Heartland Christian team (25-15 25-16 25-22).

The first set started as everyone expected this match to go, it was a back and forth competitive set. Until Reserve led 11-8, no team had a lead bigger than 2. But at that point the Devils took off and quickly grasped control over the set. Heartland was struggling to get into system and couldn’t be as aggressive as they wanted to be. Those struggles for Heartland continued into set two as Reserve dominated both of the first two sets.

The Lions really showed some fight to come out in the third set and grab a lead. Makayla Osborn served well for the Lions, at one point serving up 3 aces in a row to tie the set up at 6-6. However late in the set Reserve dug out a lot of strong attacks and simply outlasted the Lions in long rally’s. The Devils completed the sweep with a 25-22 victory in set three.

Dani Vuletich led the Devil’s attack with 10 kills. She also played great defense at the net with 4 blocks. Lisa Eichert had a strong night as well with 9 kills. Alyvia Hughes finished with 7. Gianna Paris gathered 16 assists on the night. Reserve did a good job having other players ready to set when Paris was taken out of the play.

Western Reserve will play their third game in three days on Thursday when they travel to Lowellville. Heartland will need to bounce back quick as they travel to Columbiana on Thursday.
