CHAMPION SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH CHERYL WEAVER

WARREN OH- Champion softball has built a reputation of success over the years under Cheryl Weaver. They are a legitimate dynasty among the softball world. Weaver has led the Flashes to nine state championship appearances, and six state titles. Including 3 in a row from 2017-2019. Coming off the missed season of 2020 was rough in 2021. The Flashes missed out on the senior seasons of incredible talents, and even better leaders, and then had to throw some young players into the fire. They still made it to the district championship game where they fell to South Range. The Flashes will look to use one more of experience to get back to where they belong this season.

Head coach Cheryl Weaver took the time to talk to the boys of YSN’s Running Point to give us a preview of the season. They discuss team goals, this program’s standards, and much more.

KEEPING UP WITH THE JONES

WARREN OH- Everyone knows what the Champion softball program is all about. 9 state championship appearances, and 6 titles have turned Champion into a bonafide dynasty. Success doesn’t come out of no where though. Not only does the standard come from the top, but it also comes from generations of players passing down the torch. Senior Maddy Jones fits that mold. She watched her older sister win state championships. Now, she has a chance to lead her team to one in her senior season.

Jones comes into this season all of the sudden one of the biggest leaders on the field. The team has set high goals for themselves, and keeping them focused is determined is something Mady shines at. This program breeds leaders by passing the torch to the next generation, and that’s what Mady and her fellow seniors will be doing this year. Not to mention Jones has a younger sister who may just strap up on the softball field in the future.

Jones took the time to talk with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig and discuss what her senior season will hold. She discusses her personal goals for the team, what it’s like playing inside the Champion program, and so much more. Hear from one of the leaders of the Golden Flashes in the latest player profile!
