REBELS ROLL, ESKRA CROWNED 3-POINT QUEEN

COLUMBIANA, OH- The Crestview Lady Rebels advanced to the sectional finals Wednesday with a 55-33 win over Waterloo.

The Rebels set the tone from the tip as they started the game on a 22-0 run through a quarter and a minute. 3 different Rebels hit a three in the first quarter. Mara Hallas was a big reason Rebels were getting open as she tallied 4 assists in just the first frame.

The Rebel domination continued throughout the game as they got solid contributions from Peyton Huff and Tanner Hoffer down low. Haley Eskra complimented their post dominance with a prolific night from the perimeter, putting in 3 three-pointers in the first half alone.

Eskra was a shooter on a mission as she came into the night needing just 5 threes to tie the school record for threes in a season. She hit her 5th three late in the 4th quarter and time for her to break the record on her home floor was running short. Crestview got the ball with about 47 seconds left in the game. Eskra took a shot from the wing and missed it but it deflected off a Waterloo defender and back into her arms. She made a step back move and put a shot up with 20 seconds on the clock and it was a no-doubter.

It was Eskra’s 6th three of the night and her 48th of the season, breaking the previous record of 47.

The Rebels went on to win 55-33. Haley Eskra led the way with 20 points while Peyton Huff added 13.  Tanner Hoffer was also in double figures with 10 points and led the team in rebounds with 6. Mara Hallas had 8 assists.

The Rebels move on to play at Ravenna Southeast on Saturday at 1:00 in the sectional finals.

GOING THE ESKRA MILE

A traditionally sound program in the past continues to shine under the watch of the lone Lady Rebel Basketball senior, Haley Eskra.  Eskra is a multi-sport talent that wages war on her opposition in each of the three academic seasons for Crestview.  In Fall, she shines as the setter for Coach Auer, in Winter she’s a guard, and Spring she trades her sneakers for cleats and controls the middle-infield for the Rebs.  While basketball may not be her number one sport by choice, she certainly doesn’t let that show on the hardwood.  Eskra’s game is only trumped by her leadership, and a great dynamic for the players to look to for advice and wisdom throughout the season.

YSN’s own DJ Yokley caught up with Haley prior to the Beaver Local game and broke down her thoughts on and off the court and what she’s looking to accomplish in her grand finale in the black and gold.
