LIONS ROAR PAST GRAND VALLEY

COLUMBIANA, OH- Patience has been a virtue for Heartland Christian Head Coach Josh Scott, and his patience, as well as that of his team is looking to be paying off.  Tuesday night, especially was the case in Heartland’s 72-61 come from behind victory over Grand Valley.

A tightly contested game through the first half, the Mustangs looked to be wearing down Heartland on both ends of the floor.  Grand Valley would outscore the Lions 24-17 in the third quarter, but you could see the outstanding defense that Heartland is known for start to sharpen their claws at the beginning of the fourth quarter.  Senior Noah Pennington showed up in a big way, flexing his muscles down in the paint for Heartland.  Pennington’s size is hard to contest with, and the fiery senior put some good tape together for other area coaches to be put on notice with a tough 4 points.  The leading scorer for the game was Jonathan Bertovich with 27.  Bertovich’s athleticism was on full display with step-back jumpers from beyond the arc, as well as breaking ankles all over the floor.  Joey Donofrio’s 14 added another dimension to the Lion attack on Monday night, while Steven Baker was another double-digit contributor with 10.
