BROOKFIELD BLASTS THEIR WAY TO NEXT ROUND
BROOKFIELD, Ohio –
Opting for a first round matchup with the St John’s Fighting Herald rather than taking a bye,the Brookfield Warriors (11-5) came out inspiredand looking to set the tone for the postseason.
Sitting down the Herald 1-2-3 to kick off the game, Brookfield needed very little time to strike offensively. A single by leadoff batter, Sophia Hook, gave the Warriors their first hit of the game and would then see their next 3 batters reach via the walk. Arianna Jones would then reach first and score a run with a ground ball back to the pitcher before Izzy Shingledecker crushed one over the right center field fence for a 3-run homerun. The Warriors first 7 batters would all reach base and eventually score.
Ahead 7-0 going into the 2nd, Brookfield’s Miranda Nicholson made quick work of the St John’s batters again, getting all 3 outs via the strikeout and sending her offense back to the dish.
The Warriors would score another 7 runs in the second inning, highlighted by a RBI single off the bat of Janea Pugh and a 2 RBI double from Sophia Hook but they could have had more.
Already ahead by 14, the Warriors had a runner leave the bag early, effectively calling off the dogs. Unfortunately for Izzy Shingledecker, the move happened just as she blasted her second homerun of the day, this time a grand slam.
Brookfield would go on to give up one to St. John’s as well as score another of their own before it was all said and done, picking up a 15-1 victory.
