CHANEY HAS NO TROUBLES WITH LEOPARDS

YOUNGSTOWN OH- The Cowboys had three scorers finish with 17 or more in an 88-46 rout of Liberty Tuesday night.

The Cowboys offense seemed unstoppable in a game that was a make up from a couple of weeks ago. The Cowboys scored their season-high 88 points.

Sharrod Taylor led the Cowboys with 22 points. Quincy Jones finished with 18, and Travis Easterly added 17.

FLY EAGLES FLY! EAGLES GET PAST VALLEY CHRISTIAN

HUBBARD OH- Hubbard’s offense was rolling on Tuesday night as they beat Valley Christian 77-60.

Cam Resatar was a big reason for the Eagles’ success as he went off with 32 points. He knocked down six three-pointers.

Ryan Laird also had a strong night scoring 23 for Hubbard. Jayden Record was also in double figures with 15.

 

WILDCATS KEEP STREAKING

STRUTHERS OH- The Wildcats are fresh off their first league championship since 2012 on Monday night, and kept rolling Tuesday with a 72-52 win over Southern.

Struthers used a huge third quarter to run past the Indians. They outscored Southern 21-8 in the third frame. Struthers Ends the regular season with a 19-3 record.

Trey Metzka led the Cats with 18 points. Carson Ryan finished with 15, while Aiden Slocum added 13.

SALEM CRUISES OVER BULLDOGS

EAST PALESTINE OH- Salem went into East Palestine Tuesday night and beat the Bulldogs 69-47.

Johnathan Bertovitch has a strong night in a losing effort scoring 32 points for the Bulldogs. Unfortunately for Palestine, Bertovitch’s scoring didn’t come in the first quarter and they found themselves down 18-4 after one frame. That was enough of a cushion for the Quakers to hold off East Palestine for the rest of the game.

Hunter Griffith led the Quakers with 16 points.

STRUTHERS TAKES NE8 CROWN

STRUTHERS OH- For the first time since 2012, Struthers has found themselves at the top of their conference at the end of the year. Struthers earned their title with a 66-51 win over Girard.

It was a highly contested game for the first three frames, but a 24-11 run helped Struthers secure the victory. With their overwhelming offensive outburst the Wildcats earned their rights to cut the nets at the Fieldhouse.

The Wildcats had four players in double figures. Led by Jared Lazcko with 18 points. Aiden Slocum has 15, Trey Metzka added 12, and Carson Ryan finished with 11.

Thomas Cardiero Lee the Indians with a game-High 20 points. Christian Graziano was also in double figures with 14.

IRISH LOOK STRONG IN WIN OVER RANGE

CANFIELD, OH- The South Range Boys move to 12-8 on the season after a tough loss to Ursuline, 59-44.

The Irish had a great night capitalizing and scoring, where the Raiders struggled to get shots to fall. South Range was not able to get any momentum and Ursuline extended their lead late for the victory led by Daysean Harris, Vince Armeni and Brady Shannon.Chris Brooks led the Raiders with 21 points and 13 rebounds on the night. Dante DiGaetano added 12 points for the Raiders. Also, Kris Scandy ended with 9 points on the night. For Ursuline, both Armeni and Shannon led the way with 11 points. Terrance Pankey Jr added 9 points, also Harris and Shawn Phillps added 8 points.South Range will be back in action on Tuesday to host Mooney. Ursuline will also be home on Tuesday to host Boardman. MOONEY TAKES BATTLE OF THE BIRDS

Youngstown, OH – Cardinal Mooney faced the Austintown Fitch Falcons on Saturday after losing to Warren JFK the day before. After a turnover plagued first half, Mooney gave up only 21 points in the 2nd half to achieve the come from behind win against the Cardinals. Mooney beat Fitch 57-44.

Fitch took the lead early and held on to it through halftime making the game 23-16. Simons had 9 points going into halftime for the Falcons. Thomas Fire had 6 points for Mooney.

Mooney made its comeback in the 2nd half. Mooney only allowed 2 points in the fourth quarter to win the game 57-44. Simons finished the game with 20 points for the Falcons. Michael Pelini had 13 points in the game while Fire finished with 12 points. Mooney will travel to South Range Tuesday night while Fitch will travel to Poland on Tuesday. FRYDA MAKES HISTORY; SPARTANS REJECT CHANEY’S UPSET BID

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Boardman Spartans hosted the Chaney Cowboys in one of the most exciting matchups in Youngstown. Boardman came in red hot at 18 and 1 overall, winning 8 consecutive. Chaney came in after a victory against Cardinal Mooney, with their record at 15 and 5.

The Cowboys came out strong with a 17 to 13 lead after one, but the Spartans stormed back to take the lead at half 35 to 29.

History was made during the first half, as Boardman senior Tommy Fryda knocked down his second three pointer of the night, to become the single season all time leader in made three pointers in Boardman history. Fryda finished the night with 6 three pointers, to put the record at 57 made three pointers so far.

The second half of this ballgame was a back and forth battle, as both teams fought to the very end. Sharrod Taylor kept Chaney afloat, scoring 15 of the 31 points scored by the Cowboys in the second half. Boardman was led by Derrick Anderson, who finished with 21 points on the night. The Spartans would come out victorious in this one, by a final score of 66-60. The Spartans remain undefeated at their home gymnasium, with a record of 11 and 0. They also improve to 19 and 1 on the year. Chaney drops to 15 and 6, losing the last 3 of 4.

Boardman will travel to take on Ursuline next Tuesday to try and pick up their 20th win of the season. They will then return home to take on Austintown Fitch next Friday to wrap up the regular season.

QUAKERS FALL SHORT AGAINST WEST BRANCH

BELOIT OH-West Branch was able to hold off Salem Friday night with a 57-36 win.

The Quakers had a huge second quarter outscoring the Warriors 15-6 in the second quarter. It was a great response from the Quakers who trailed 17-3 after one frame. The big second quarter made it a 23-18 game at half. But it wasn’t enough for Salem as the Warriors shot of a cannon in the third quarter. They grabbed control of the game at that point and never looked back.

Hunter Griffith led the Quakers with 10 points.

Salem travels to East Palestine on Tuesday.

RAIDERS BACK ON TRACK

CANFIELD, OH- The South Range Boys get back on track with a victory over Jefferson, 66-46 to move to 12-7 on the season with 3 more games to go. The Raiders started off fast and never let go. The Falcons struggled keeping up with the South Range offense, and the Raiders capitalized on Jefferson’s mistake to get the demanding victory. Chris Brooks led the Raiders with 29 points on the night. Matt Lucas added 6 points for the Raiders. Also, Nate Brown, Jake Gehring, and Brandon Mikos all ended with 5 points for South Range. For Jefferson, Kody Cunningham hit 6 3s on the night, ending with 18 points. Grant Hitchcock ended with 8 points, and Anthony Devivo added 6 points. South Range will be back in action on Saturday to host Ursuline. Jefferson will also be home on Saturday, hosting Grand Valley. Tip off for the JV will be at 5:30. Varsity at 7:00.
