A PAIR OF HAT TRICKS LETS THE FLASHES SHINE

WARREN OH- In a commanding girls’ soccer match, Champion asserted their dominance with a resounding 7-1 victory over Girard.

Taylor Kuhn and Maylee Nadaud were the standout performers, each achieving a remarkable hat trick with 3 goals apiece, showcasing their offensive prowess on the field. Jackie Fields also made a significant contribution, adding 1 goal to the team’s impressive tally.

With this convincing win under their belt, Champion is ready to face their next challenge as they prepare to host Garfield on Wednesday. Their strong performance against Girard sets the stage for an exciting matchup as they continue their journey in the season.

CARDINALS TAKE CENTER STAGE IN BATTLE OF 224

CANFIELD OH-

In an electrifying girls’ soccer match, Canfield demonstrated their dominance by securing an impressive 8-1 victory over Poland.

The trio of Maci Toporcer, Lexi Toporcer, and Vivian Nohra led Canfield’s offensive charge, each netting 2 goals to keep Poland’s defense on its toes. Halle Toporcer and Hanna Wahib also contributed to the scoreboard with 1 goal each, showcasing Canfield’s well-rounded attack.

Carlyn McCormick played a pivotal role in setting up plays, tallying 2 assists, while Maci Toporcer, Lexi Toporcer, Nohra, and Wahib each added 1 assist to their names.

Despite Poland’s valiant efforts, their lone goal came from Sammie Massucci, a testament to their perseverance. Canfield asserted their dominance in the shot count, outshooting Poland 25 to 3, highlighting their offensive prowess.

Leanna Williams, Poland’s goalie, made an impressive 10 saves, showing her determination to keep her team in the game. On the other side, Canfield’s goalkeeper, Lolo Padgett, made 2 key saves to maintain her team’s commanding lead.

In the end, Canfield’s relentless offensive power and solid defensive performance secured a resounding victory, leaving no doubt about their superiority on the field against Poland.

TIGERS RUN ROUGHSHOD OVER RAIDERS

Springfield’s Emma Sanders scored early to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game. Maddie Page followed that up with her first of 5 goals putting Springfield up 2-0 less than ten minutes in. Page and Sanders also each contributed with an assist. Springfield score often while getting goals from Kandall Maughan, Hannah Stoffer, Ella Perry, Macey Isaacson (first varsity goal), and Kristina Vecchione (first varsity goal). The Tigers added assists from Ava Vecchione, Sami Shafer, Maughan, Stouffer, Isaacson, and Cara Castor.

Keeper Emma Mills only had to make 2 saves but she gets the shut out, with 15 minutes of help from Ally Guerriero. A shout out goes to our defenders for locking down the Raiders attack (Ava and Kristina Vecchione, Sanders, Maughan, and Hallie Joyce.

South Range keeper Lilah Angus had 7 saves.

WATERLOO CONTINUES DOMINANT RUN

ATWATER OH-The Vikings hosted Newton Falls Monday night and came away with a 9-0 victory.

The team was led in scoring by Kaira English with five goals, Rose Couts with three goals, and Abby Mazur with her first goal of the season. Sydney Jackson contributed with three assists, Olivia Boyle had two assists, and Bayley English had one assist. Sophia Wood and Grace Yarian kept Newton Falls scoreless with a save a piece in the net.

The Vikings got great defensive work from Lilly Foster, Lillie Snyder, Gabby Gonzalez, Kayla Thompson, Courtney Eisenbraun, and Carletta Henry. The victory was a total team effort! The Vikings hit the road Wednesday as they travel to Springfield for a league match at 5 pm. Come on out and support the Vikings!

IRISH GRAB IMPRESSIVE VICTORY

YOUNGSTOWN OH- The Ursuline girls soccer team got the year off on the right foot on Friday by earning an impressive 2-0 win over Perry.

Goals for the Irish were scored by Olivia Puhalla and Lilly Scott.  Ursuline will return to action on Saturday August 20th as they host Canfield.

BOARDMAN DROPS SEASON OPENER

BOARDMAN OH- Boardman girls soccer has a bright season ahead of them, however it started with a tough loss to a solid Green program on Friday night by a score of 2-0.

Boardman will look to bounce back Saturday August 20th at home against Hoover. The game will kick off at 2:00.

SOUTH RANGE GIRLS SOCCER COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH KELSEY BENYO

CANFIELD OH- South Range girls soccer over the past two seasons have racked up more postseason wins than any other girls program in the area. Both years under head coach Kelsey Benyo have been blessed with success. They are back to back district champions, and have NE8 championships to carry around as well. This year they will have to prove their merit. They will have a lot of new faces after graduating a big senior class. The pieces they do return will have to step into bigger roles than ever as leaders. It’s time for the Raiders to prove just how good of a program they’ve built.

Coach Benyo was kind enough to drop in on the latest episode of YSN’s Running Point to give us a preview of the upcoming season. She talks to Anthony Hartwig and Ty Bartell about the culture of the program, the tough schedule they have in front of them, and much more. WATERLOO GIRLS SOCCER COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH BILL JACKSON

ATWATER OH- There’s a plethora of fall sports coming just around the bend for the Mahoning Valley. Soccer is included in that, and our area is full of talent. One of the more exciting programs coming in to this season is Waterloo’s girls team. They return a ton of experience, including Kaira English who broke the school record last season with 54 goals on the campaign. Waterloo enters the year with a new head coach in Bill Jackson who looks to carry the program to new highs.

Coach Jackson came on YSN’s Running Point to help us get a peak into what the Vikings season will look like. He talks with Anthony Hartwig, and Eric Bailey about his returning leaders, the people that have been important to getting off to a good start with the team, and so much more. Waterloo opens the season on August 22nd at Newton Falls. Check out Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner to get ready for the season opener.

SPRINGFIELD GIRLS SOCCER COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH JUSTIN KOSEK

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- The end of the regular season has come in soccer, and it is time for teams to begin to prepare for tournaments. For Springfield, it has been a very successful season despite dealing with plenty of adversity. Injuries hit the Tigers pretty hard, but they have had young players step into new roles and execute. The Tigers won a tough MVAC crown for a second year in a row, sealing it with a one goal win over Waterloo. Now the Tigers look ahead to districts, where they find themselves the 4 seed. Springfield will host Brookfield in the sectional finals, and play the Warriors for the 3rd time this season. Kickoff is set for Thursday at 6:00.

Tigers head coach Justin Kosek took the time to come on to YSN’s Running Point this week to preview the tournament, and recap the regular season. CARDINALS JUST GET BY WEST BRANCH

CANFIELD OH- It was a clash between two soccer powerhouses on Saturday as Canfield met West Branch. The Cardinals came away with a close 1-0 victory over the Warriors to move to 8-1-0 on the season.

Canfield got the game winning goal on a penalty kick scored by Mia Toporcer. The Cardinals out shot West Branch 11-7. Bayann Jadalah secured 5 saves in front of the net.

Canfield will stay at home Monday and host Fitch. West Branch falls to 5-2-2, and they will host Kenston on Tuesday.
