MORE THAN A PIECE FOR REESE
YOUNGSTOWN OH- Cardinal Mooney’s baseball team is red hot—and at the heart of their success stands sophomore standout Kaden Reese. Fresh off a headline-grabbing win over defending state champ Hoban, Reese sat down with hosts DJ Yokley and Anthony Hartwig for a candid profile on YSN Live’s recent episode.
Reese, who currently leads the state of Ohio in RBIs according to MaxPreps, attributes the team’s surge to chemistry and a relentless work ethic. “When we play together, we’re very tough to beat,” Reese explained, highlighting Mooney’s recent offensive outbursts and praises for team pitching and defense. Together with his brother, an influential teammate and role model, Reese has helped foster a close-knit culture, complete with postgame meals at local favorites like Canes and Steak ‘n Shake. “We go eat as a team… We’re going to keep doing it until we lose,” Reese grinned. Despite his impressive numbers and growing reputation, Reese remains humble. He credits his teammates for getting on base and giving him RBI opportunities: “Without my teammates, I wouldn’t have any. So thank you to them, obviously.”
Off the field, Reese embraces a routine centered around family, faith, and a touch of humor—the “pink drink” from Starbucks, which he confesses to ordering with a wink and a little embarrassment. In the gym, Reese has put on 15 pounds of muscle and clocked an 88 mph throw from the outfield, earning him the nickname “Flash.” As for his leadership style, Reese prefers leading by example: “I don’t want to be that type of leader that goes in yelling. I’m just trying to help everyone as best as I can.” Rooted in a strong family legacy and inspired by heroes like John Cena, Reese exemplifies Cardinal Mooney’s “big family” spirit. With his team on a win streak and his future looking bright, it’s clear Reese’s impact goes well beyond the box score
