THE EYES OF AN EAGLE

HUBBARD, OH-  In the latest episode of YSN’s podcast, hosts Anthony Hartwig and DJ Yokley sat down with Johnny Reyes, a senior standout of the Hubbard Eagles baseball team. Known affectionately as “Johnny Baseball,” Reyes is gearing up for his final high school season before taking his talents to the collegiate level.

Reyes, who is preparing to graduate soon, reflected on how quickly time has passed. “I only have 21 days left of school when I’m out of here,” he shared, revealing a mix of excitement and nostalgia as he counts down the final days.

Despite the challenges posed by unpredictable weather this baseball season, Reyes remains focused. He takes advantage of rainy days by honing his skills in practice, staying mentally and physically prepared for when the team finally hits the field.

Reyes attributes much of his success to relentless practice and a strong support system, including his parents and a dedicated travel coach. Their guidance has been pivotal in securing his commitment to play baseball at Grove City, where he plans to study nursing.

The hosts noted Johnny’s competitive spirit, especially evident when faced with formidable pitchers like teammates Braden Songer and Gabe Rusnak. Reyes’s tenacity is further highlighted by his determination to earn his spot on the field in college, as he prepares to leave behind the comforts of home, particularly his mom’s cooking, for this new chapter.

With his eyes set on the future and a drive to succeed, Johnny Reyes embodies the qualities of a true team player ready to soar to new heights. As the podcast wrapped up, both hosts expressed their eagerness to watch what this promising talent will accomplish in his final high school games and beyond.

HOWELL SWEET IT IS

HUBBARD OH- In the world of high school basketball, few players have demonstrated the dedication and versatility shown by Hubbard Eagles’ junior standout, Khamyah Howell. In a recent interview with YSN, hosted by Ty Bartell, Howell opened up about her early love for the game, her current season, and her aspirations for the future.

Howell’s journey began in kindergarten, but it wasn’t until the Little Dribblers program at Mercer during her first and second grade years that she truly fell in love with basketball. With strong dribbling and ball-handling skills, she has always thrived as a point guard. Yet, she candidly admits that shooting is one area she continues to strengthen in her game. This year, Howell averages nine points, five rebounds, and four steals per game, a testament to her all-around capabilities on the court. Her commitment to being a versatile and impactful player reflects her strategy of not specializing in just one aspect of the game. Her passion extends beyond the court; Howell aspires to pursue a career in criminal justice and become an FBI agent. The drive for an active and dynamic career echoes her on-court approach—constantly seeking growth and making diverse contributions.

As the season approaches playoff time, Howell’s focus is clear. She hopes to lead her team further into the playoffs while maintaining her balanced play. Drawing inspiration from former teammates and maintaining a strong support system at home, primarily through her father and brother, Howell exemplifies the dedication, hard work, and leadership required of a successful student-athlete. Hubbard Eagles fans and the high school basketball community alike will be watching closely to see how Howell continues to rise, both in her athletic endeavors and her future academic pursuits. Her journey serves as an inspiring example of how passion and perseverance can pave the way for success in all arenas of life.
