EAGLES SINK TALONS INTO NEW PHILADELPHIA

HUBBARD, Ohio –
Two historic programs stumbling into the postseason, Hubbard and New Philadelphia came into cold wet night with one goal in mind, survive and advance.

The weather played a factor throughout the beginning of the ballgame, as sloppy offensive play and penalties had things tied at the conclusion of the first.

After a Quaker fumble allowed Hubbard to take the ball over in New Philly territory, the Eagles would pick up one first down to get senior kicker, Kyle Walker, into field goal range before blasting through a twenty-nine-yard field goal to break our seal and give Hubbard the lead.
New Philadelphia’s ensuing possession saw the Quakers pick up a first down before a couple of penalties put them well behind the sticks and forced them to punt the ball away.

Hubbard started their drive at the Quaker thirty-seven-yard-line and just six plays later, TC Caffey would punch in his first score of the night on a fourth and goal from the one.

The Quakers, however, had no intentions on going away easily into the night. The first play of the ensuing New Philly drive hit for sixty-four yards and set the Quakers up for their first score of the night, a five yard touchdown pass from Kurtis to Konnor Tetzloff, sending out score to where the half would end, 10-7.

Starting the second half with the ball, New Philadelphia’s opening drive would see the Quakers turn the ball over for the second time of the night, this time deep in Eagle territory on the Hubbard four.

In just six plays Hubbard went ninety-six yards for the score, capped by a vintage TC Caffey fifty-nine-yard touchdown run, featuring four broken tackles, and Caffey’s jets. TC would go on to score twice more in the ballgame, once from twelve yards out, and the other from eight.
TC’s effort in the Eagles 39-20 victory over New Philadelphia put himself in the state record books twice, with over 2400 yards rushing and 36 rushing TDs, and also has surpassed Hubbard legend, LJ Scott, for most rushing TDs in a season.

BIG PERFORMERS
HUBBARD:
TC Caffey: 35 carries, 272 rushing yards, 4 TDs
Landan Bates: 6-9, 90 passing yards, 11 carries, 78 rushing yards
Ben Wilcox: 5 carries, 56 rushing yards
NEW PHILADELPHIA:

UP NEXT
Hubbard: Bouncing back in a big way after their embarrassing loss to Canfield South Range, the Eagles will hit the road for the second round, and again travel to Canfield, this time to take on the big dog Canfield Cardinals (10-1). Hubbard leads the all-time series 15-7-1 and have won the only three matchups this century.

New Philadelphia: The Quakers end their season with a final record of 6-5, and on a two-game losing streak. Losing six starters on offense and three on the defensive side, New Philly will return a plethora of then senior talent, and will have their names in the postseason race once again.

SOUTH RANGE POSTGAME VS. HUBBARD

CANFIELD, OH- Postgame Remarks from South Range’s 34-0 victory over Hubbard that sealed South Range’s NE8 Championship.

RAIDERS SHUT DOWN HUBBARD TO TAKE NE8 TITLE

CANFIELD OH- In what was a highly billed matchup between two undefeated teams, it was South Range that was a class above on Friday night. The Raiders shut down Hubbard to earn their second straight NE8 championship
34-0.

The story of the game was South Range’s ability to go to the air. Both teams were pretty even as far as how much they were able to run. The Raiders ran for just over 170 yards, and Hubbard ran for just over 150. The difference was South Range out gained Hubbard 142-0 through the air. Dylan Dominguez had 17 carries for 58 yards. Billy Skripac ran for 68 yards on 17 carries. He also threw for 142 yards on 7/12 passing. He threw for two touchdowns. Dominguez punched a touchdown in from 5 yards out.

Landon Bates led the Eagles offense gaining 81 yards on 12 touches. TC Caffey was slowed down for 71 yards on 20 touches.

Both South Range and Hubbard have bright playoff aspirations ahead of them. Stay tuned to YSN for updates on schedules and pairings for postseason football.

CAFFEY ECLIPSES 2000 AS HUBBARD ROUTS DRAGONS

NILES, Ohio –
Coming into the night heavy favorites, the Hubbard Eagles (9-0) got off to a slow start. After going three and out on their opening drive, Niles’s sophomore running back, Antuan Gardner, took a shotgun handoff straight up the middle to gash the Eagles for fifty-five yards before being pushed out of bounds at the one. One play later and Gardner was in the endzone for the opening score of the night, Eagles trail 6-0.

Unfortunately for the Dragons, their lead, along with the Eagles slow start, would not last. The next twenty-two seconds of gametime saw a thirty-yard kick return by Landen Bates to get the Eagles into Niles territory, followed by a forty-five-yard sweep from Ben Wilcox to put the Eagles on the board and take their first lead of the night.

Looking to continue the success of their opening drive, the Red Dragons would see the ensuing kickoff go into the endzone for a touchback, giving them the ball at their own twenty-five. A solid gain of seven on first down followed by two gains of zero forced a Niles three and out. The Red Dragons punter would bobble a low snap on the attempted punt and was eventually brought down at the Red Dragons own twenty-three-yard line.
The Eagles once again needed very little time to score. Quarterback Nik Hendrix threw a beautiful ball to the back corner of the endzone that senior Landen Bates would come down with, putting the Eagles out in front 14-6 without their bell cow, TC Caffey, ever being involved.

Hubbard’s defense would remain stout, and the Eagles offense kicked into cruise control in their 48-13 routing of Niles. A new wrinkle was added to Hubbard’s offense in Landan Bates throwing things back to the old school Hubbard spread formation with an uber athletic QB. Bates and Caffey would combine for 342 yards on the ground for 5 scores. In the process, Caffey would eclipse the 2000-yard mark for the season, continuing his pursuit of Valley legend, LJ Scott’s, single season rushing record.

BIG PERFORMERS
HUBBARD:
TC Caffey: 19 carries, 236 rushing yards, 3 TDs
Landan Bates: 11 carries, 1 reception, 130 total yards, 3 total TDs

NILES:
Antuan Gardner: 22 carries, 205 yards, 1 TD

UP NEXT
Hubbard: After keeping their perfect records intact (Hubbard 9-0 on the season, Hoffman 14-0 all-time against Niles), the Eagles will hit the road again for the most anticipated matchup of the season against the South Range Raiders (9-0). The winner completes their regular season with an unblemished 10-0 record and will secure the NE8 conference championship.

Niles: With playoff hopes still alive, the Red Dragons must bounce back quickly as they will host another NE8 team on the fringe of the postseason, the Girard Indians (5-4). Niles will need a win and a little help in order to secure their bid to the dance, while Girard can cement their spot with a victory.

HOFFMAN GETS RECORD BREAKING WIN AT HUBBARD

HUBBARD, Ohio –
Coming into the night off of three straight weeks of 30+ point performances, the Hubbard Eagles (8-0) were looking to dominate their injury plagued rival Girard Indians (4-4).
THE GAME
The Indians came out inspired on their opening drive, moving the ball at will before ultimately being stopped on 4th and 1 at the Hubbard 33-yard-line.
Eight plays later and the Eagles saw their first score of the night. Lining Caffey up in the right H-back position, the Eagles motioned TC into the backfield to take a handoff from quarterback Nick Hendrix, then promptly delivering a second handoff to Ben Wilcox coming back across. Wilcox would bounce it to the outside before stiff arming a defender and getting in for the score.
Pearson’s Indians needed little time to respond, taking just over three and a half minutes to knot things up at eight. Hubbard would see success on their next drive before penalties would kill the series, forcing the Eagles to punt it away.
Caffey, Hubbard’s rugby style punter, would pin the Indians at their own one. A quick three and out accompanied by a poor punt gave Hubbard good field position, taking over at the Girard forty-six.
Five plays later and Caffey would score form a yard out for his first touchdown on the night, taking us into the half with the score at 15-8.
After a struggling first half, the Eagles came out of the halftime locker room all systems go. Hubbard needed just six plays and a little under three minutes to make it a two-score game.
Good kickoff coverage from the Eagles accompanied by some stout defensive play forced another Girard three and out. Sending pressure on the Girard quick kick, Alex Goodrich would block the Indian punt before Nicky VanSuch would scoop it and score it from fourteen yards out. However, there was heartbreak for the senior VanSuch, as a block in the back call would wipe the score off the board.
Nonetheless, Hubbard would still get points on the board, as the ensuing TC Caffey tout from eighteen yards out would go for the final score of the night for the Eagles.
Girard would score once more in the game on a Dom Malito ninety-four touchdown reception, bringing the score to its final, 29-15.
THE MILESTONE
With the Hubbard victory, head coach Brian Hoffman has cemented himself as the winningest coach in Hubbard football history, breaking his tie with Eagle legend Jeff Bayuk. Coach Hoff has led his teams to the playoffs 11 times, amounting a postseason record of 10-11, and has reached the regional final on three separate occasions. EAGLES WASTE NO TIME IN LAKEVIEW

CORTLAND, Ohio –
Prior to and at the conclusion of tonight’s game, there were plenty of hugs and conversations between the Hubbard coaching staff and newly appointed Lakeview head coach, Sam Bellino. Bellino spent over ten years with the Hubbard program between his playing days and his time as an assistant coach.

Although Bellino knew his opponent as well as one could, the Hubbard Eagles (7-0) needed little time to impose their will on their NE8 counterpart Lakeview Bulldogs (0-7). Just over a minute and a half into the night, TC Caffey broke yet another long touchdown run, this one from fifty-six yards out.

Lakeview showed early success, converting on third down on their very first drive before getting into fourth and short at their own thirty-nine. The offense would stay on the field to try and draw the Eagles offsides before quarterback, Nate Fox, would drop back for a quick punt. Unfortunately for Fox, the snap was 6 feet too tall, sailing over his head and allowing Hubbard to takeover at the Bulldog seventeen. Two plays later and it was Ben Wilcox on a seventeen-yard jet sweep to put the Eagles up 14-0 after Kyle Walker’s extra point.

Wilcox would score once more in the first quarter from twenty-six yards out, then Caffey would provide three more scores from the Eagles before the half was over. After half, the dogs were called off for the birds. Lakeview would score once thanks to Nate Fox, and Hubbard’s second unit saw their first score of the season, on a Xander Owens eighty plus yard touchdown run.

BIG PERFORMERS
HUBBARD:
TC Caffey: 19 carries, 294 rushing yards, 4 TDs
Ben Wilcox: 2 carries, 42 rushing yards, 2 TDs
LAKEVIEW:
Nate Fox: 9 carries, 32 rushing yards, 1 TD
UP NEXT
Hubbard: While Hoffman hasn’t surpassed Bayuk just yet, he will get the chance to do so at home this coming week, as his Eagles host the rival Girard Indians (4-3). The two schools have split their last four matches evenly at two wins a piece.
Lakeview: Still searching for their first win of the season, the road doesn’t get much easier for the Bulldogs next week, as they will take on their former helm of the program in Coach Pavlansky and his new Poland (4-3) squad.
