HUBBARD OH- In an exhilarating back-and-forth matchup, the Girard Indians managed to get the final laugh, securing a hard-fought 21-14 victory against the Hubbard Eagles. CORTLAND OH- Lakeview snapped their losing streak with an impressive conference win over Hubbard, securing a 28-14 victory.

The game started with a big play from Hubbard as Alex Hackwelder connected with Braydon Songer for a 64-yard touchdown pass, giving Hubbard an early 7-0 lead. Lakeview responded swiftly as Boom Gillis powered through with a 36-yard rushing touchdown, tying the game at 7-7 before the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Hackwelder took matters into his own hands, running for a 2-yard touchdown to put Hubbard back in the lead at 14-7.

The third quarter saw Gillis continue his outstanding performance, scoring two rushing touchdowns. First, he punched in a 4-yard rushing touchdown to tie the game at 14-14 with 10:12 on the clock. Later in the quarter, Gillis added a 2-yard rushing touchdown, giving Lakeview a 21-14 lead.

The Girard team showcased impressive individual performances.  Bree Latell emerged as a dominant offensive force, amassing an outstanding 18 kills that proved instrumental in Girard’s victory. Her powerful spikes kept the opposition on the defensive.

**Bailey Walters** exhibited her versatility, contributing 9 kills along with an impressive 25 assists. Her role in orchestrating the team’s offense was vital to their success.

The serving game was a key asset for Girard, with Bailey Walters, Bree Latell, and Kylie Carpenter making significant contributions, amassing 13, 11, and 9 service points, respectively. Latell demonstrated her prowess from the service line with 5 aces, while Walters added 4 aces to her all-around performance. EAGLES SOAR IN THRILLER OVER BL

HUBBARD, OH- In another tense encounter within the Northeast 8 division, Beaver Local faced off against Hubbard, but the Beavers’ struggles against the NE8 persisted as Hubbard’s Garland Warren sealed the game with a 5-yard touchdown run, securing a 29-25 victory for the Eagles with just 1:08 left on the clock.

Beaver Local, entering the game with a 4-2 record, found themselves in familiar territory, as this marked the third of four matchups against Northeast 8 opponents this season, with all previous games resulting in defeats, including encounters against Struthers and Niles. On the other side, Hubbard improved to a matching 4-3 record.

The game unfolded with both teams exchanging blows on the scoreboard:

Beaver Local drew first blood in the opening quarter, as senior quarterback Austin Cline connected with Brock Severs for a 14-yard touchdown pass, establishing a 7-0 lead.

Hubbard quickly responded, with Garland Warren rushing for a 10-yard touchdown, and the Eagles added a successful two-point conversion, taking an 8-7 lead with 1:45 remaining in the first quarter.

Warren continued to shine in the second quarter, breaking free for a 47-yard touchdown run, extending Hubbard’s lead to 15-7.

Beaver Local refused to be outdone, as Cline scored on a 5-yard touchdown run with just 1:02 left in the second quarter. The Beavers added a two-point conversion, sending both teams into halftime with a tied score of 15-15.

Hubbard regained the lead in the third quarter, as Alex Hackwelder executed a 1-yard keeper, making it 22-15 in favor of the Eagles. However, Beaver Local responded swiftly, with Brock Severs returning the ensuing kickoff an impressive 95 yards to tie the game at 22-22 with 7:02 left in the third quarter.

Kaleb Mays added a 21-yard field goal for Beaver Local with just 12 seconds remaining in the third quarter, giving the Beavers a brief lead of 25-22.

Ultimately, the late-game heroics of Garland Warren for Hubbard secured the victory for the Eagles, ending Beaver Local’s hopes of a comeback.

As Beaver Local prepares for their next challenge, a road game against Indian Creek, they will look for the comforts of their conference schedule to close out the year.

WILDCATS LET OUT FRUSTRATION ON HUBBARD

STRUTHERS OH- Struthers came into their Friday night matchup against Hubbard with a burning desire to erase the memory of last week’s tough loss. Their determination and resolve were on full display as they secured an emphatic 41-14 victory over their opponents.

The first quarter opened with a bang for Struthers as Devin Braham sprinted down the field for an electrifying 72-yard run, crossing the goal line at the 11:17 mark. This explosive play set the tone for the Wildcats, who took an early 7-0 lead.

Struthers continued their offensive assault in the opening quarter when Najier Howard bulldozed his way into the end zone with a 4-yard run at 5:35, extending their lead to 14-0.

Hubbard, refusing to be left behind, responded with determination. Garland Warren punched in a 2-yard run with just 1:01 remaining in the quarter, putting Hubbard on the scoreboard at 14-7.

However, Struthers wasted no time in regaining their dominance. In the closing moments of the first quarter, Jason Dukes broke free for an explosive 68-yard run, widening the gap to 20-7, although they missed the subsequent PAT.

The second quarter saw no let-up from Struthers. Dukes continued to shine, connecting with Kendis McLeod on a 52-yard touchdown pass at 11:06, pushing the lead to 27-7.

AC Carter joined the scoring frenzy with a 4-yard touchdown run for Struthers, even though they missed the PAT, extending their lead to 33-7.

SOUTH RANGE AVOIDS EAGLES COMEBACK

POLAND SHOWCASES THEIR DOMINANCE

HUBBARD OH- In a commanding display of football prowess, Poland High School delivered a resounding 53-0 victory over Hubbard in conference play.

Poland’s performance was nothing short of dominant, racking up 16 first downs and showcasing a formidable ground game with 33 rushes for 144 yards. The offensive standout of the game was Dom Pagano, who displayed both his passing and rushing abilities. Pagano completed 11 of 16 passes for 170 yards, throwing two touchdowns with zero interceptions. He also made his mark on the ground, carrying the ball 11 times for 42 yards and adding two rushing touchdowns. In total, Poland’s offense amassed an impressive 276 yards.

The defensive side of the ball was equally impressive for Poland, forcing three turnovers and holding Hubbard to a mere 16 rushes for just 7 yards. Hubbard’s offense struggled to find its footing, managing only 16 total yards throughout the game.

LAKEVIEW CONTINUES DOMINANT CAMPAIGN

CORTLAND OH- Lakeview’s volleyball team continued its impressive season with a convincing three-set victory over Hubbard. With this win, Lakeview improved its record to an impressive 10-1, showcasing their dominance in the region.

The match unfolded with Lakeview in complete control, winning each set with commanding scores: 25-17, 25-15, and 25-13. Lakeview’s performance was marked by exceptional teamwork and individual contributions that sealed their victory.

Addy Allen and Mara Schmader were instrumental in the service department, racking up crucial points for their team. Allen contributed 11 service points, while Schmader added 10. Reagan Price and Mara Schmader also displayed their serving prowess with 3 aces and 2 aces, respectively.

Lakeview’s attacking game was led by Reagan Price and Molly Stuart, who combined for an impressive total of 27 kills. Price led the team with 17 kills, while Stuart added 10, showcasing their ability to find the gaps in Hubbard’s defense.

Mallory Mailach played a crucial role as the team’s setter, tallying 33 assists, ensuring that her teammates had the opportunities they needed to score. CLIPPERS TAKE BATTLE WITH HUBBARD

COLUMBIANA OH- Columbiana welcomed Hubbard on Tuesday preparing for a battle between two of the area’s best golf teams. The Clippers came out on fire as they defeated the Eagles 154-160 at Valley Golf Club on Tuesday. Rocco Crawford and Anthony Hall each took the low score honors as the Clipper duo each posted a round of 37. Teammates Trenton Hall and Blake Unger also carded very solid rounds in the victory as each posted 40.

Hubbard’s Colten Smith led the way for the Eagles, carding a 38. Gate Rusnek and Matt Johnston recorded 39 respectively while Garret Brojkovich added a 44.

NILES OVERPOWERS THE EAGLES

NILES, OH – The Niles Red Dragons (3-1) have a NE8 Player of the Year candidate in senior running back Antuan Gardner and a stout defense to match.

Gardner totaled 263 yards of offense and two touchdowns and Niles’ defense held the Hubbard Eagles (3-1) to just 95 total yards in the game, the lowest total Niles has held the Eagles to since 1986.

After starting the game slow, Niles would move the ball at will in the second quarter while totaling 24 points in the period. Gardner punched the first touchdown of the night in from 1 yard out just four seconds in and it wasn’t until over 8 minutes later that Antony Budak would score his only touchdown of the night from a yard out. Gardner would score less than a minute and a half later and Niles would add an additional field goal as time expired.

Coming out of the break, Hubbard would start with terrific field positioning thanks to a great return by Baron Reynolds-Penny. Alex Hackwelder would find the endzone just three and a half minutes later to bring the Eagles to within three scores. Unfortunately for Hubbard, that’s where their scoring would end.

The Niles defense would force three interceptions on the night, one of which came in their own endzone to keep Hubbard’s comeback bid at bay. Defensively, the Red Dragons would go the entire game without a penalty, a stark contrast from the defensive unit on the opposite sideline, who granted multiple first downs in key moments on offsides penalties. The strong defensive effort paired with a monster effort from Gardner gave Niles their first win over Hubbard since 1995, snapping a 16-game losing streak, 27-6.

Hubbard: After dropping their first game to the Red Dragons since 1995, the Eagles will return home for a matchup with the undefeated Poland Bulldogs (4-0). Poland has taken three of the last four matchups against Hubbard.
