LISBON NOT GOING ANYWHERE

LISBON OH- In a resounding display of dominance on Tuesday night, Lisbon extended their undefeated streak in the EOAC, overpowering Southern with an emphatic 78-24 victory. The Blue Devils showcased their offensive prowess and defensive prowess, leaving no room for Southern to stage a comeback.

Trevor Siefke led the scoring onslaught for Lisbon, delivering an outstanding 24-point performance. Alex Schreffler contributed 17 points, while Luke Kraft added 12 points to the offensive showcase. Hunter Dailey and Tate Wallen rounded out the balanced effort with 10 and 9 points, respectively.

Southern, facing a relentless Lisbon squad, battled valiantly with Noah Chase and Wyatt Chase leading their offensive efforts with 7 points each.

With this convincing win, Lisbon (14-2) continues to assert their dominance in the EOAC. The Blue Devils will hit the road on Friday, facing Wellsville in their upcoming matchup. On the other side, Southern (1-14) aims to bounce back on Friday, hosting Valley Christian in hopes of turning the tide.

INDIANS LOOK SMOOTH AGAINST LAKEVIEW

GIRARD, OH – As the season continues ton wind down, the Indians continue to stay red hot! After winning 6 of their last 8 games, Girard had every reason to come out on top Monday night and oh boy did they deliver, with an impressive 42-22 victory the Indians kept themselves right behind Poland for first place and with only 2 conference games remaining, every game is crucial for Girard.

 

If you’re a fan of slow starts this game was made for you because after the first 8 minutes the score stood tied at 2-2. Both teams showed some nice bouts of defense early and both struggled to find the hoop even from directly under it, but about halfway through the frame Lakeview found the first tally, a beautiful rebound by Mackenzie Stowe would finally give the crowd something to react to. While Lakeview found the bucket first it would be Mia Malito in the final moments of the quarter to use her strength to drive to the basket and lay in the equalizer.

 

The second quarter was the polar opposite of the first with Girard dominating the paint and scoring 21-4 and finishing the half 23-6. Mackenzie Stowe found the first 2 for Lakeview with a mid-range jumper and Anna Haynie found a bucket soon after. While Stowe continued to lead her team, so did Malito. Mia came out of the break with more energy which helped her put up 9 more points including her first and only made 3. Mackenzie White got into a groove and scored 6 points with a made free throw, a 3 and a nice bucket from down low. 

 

Lakeview found themselves with a much improved 3rd quarter and outscored the Indians 11-8. Malito put up two more 2’s and White found 3 more points with another free throw and a 2. On the other side of the floor Mackenzie Stowe stepped it up and scored 9 of the 11 for her team with two made 3’s and an impressive 3-for-4 from the line she continued to prove she was the best of the Bulldogs that night. 

 

While the Bulldogs had a strong 3rd they couldn’t weather the storm and as a result they were outscored 11-5 to end the game. The 5 points came from two different sources and neither were Mackenzie Stowe. Sammi Oravec put up a nice 3 and Annalise DeJulio found the other 2. For Girard Malito put up another 5 points which allowed her to finish with a team leading 20 points. Ally Gassman showed us more of her potential with 4 hard fought points all in the paint as well.

 

Girard needed this game to go exactly how it did in order to keep up with Poland in the race for the Northeast 8but, despite the score, they did have some troubles against the Bulldogs who still showed some solid defense but just had a hiccup in the 2nd and ran out of gas in the 4th which prompted the bench to sub in for the starters and while they only scored 5 points they gave the Indians their toughest challenge of the night and did not make scoring easy by any means which is just a fantastic thing to see for Lakeview because this team is going to be dangerous when they young ladies are ready for full time varsity minutes. Lakeview will finish their road trip on February 1st when they visit Struthers at 5:30PM and Girard will hit the road and take on Hubbard on February 1st for another important NE8 matchup at 7:00PM.

SHROADES HITS 2,000 IN BIG SOUTHERN WIN

SALINEVILLE OH- In a memorable night for Southern senior Ashley Shroades, she achieved a significant milestone, surpassing the 2,000-point mark in her illustrious career. The Indians capitalized on this momentum, cruising to a commanding 55-20 victory over East Palestine.

Ashley Shroades led the charge with an impressive 30-point performance, showcasing her scoring prowess. Josie Stanley added 11 points, while Makenna Jones and Alyssa Shroades contributed 6 and 5 points, respectively.

East Palestine saw Gabby Andre and Marah Zimmerman each score 6 points in their effort.

With the win, Southern boasts a 10-5 record and looks forward to a home conference matchup against Valley Christian on Saturday. East Palestine (8-8) is set to host Wellsville on Monday, seeking to rebound from the challenging contest. Ashley Shroades’ milestone night added an extra layer of significance to Southern’s dominant performance.

GIRARD GLIDES THROUGH THE WILDCATS

GIRARD, OH – The Indians welcomed Struthers to town for another night of Northeast 8 conference action. Girard came out hungry for a win after a disappointing loss to Cardinal Mooney on Monday while Struthers came in red hot with a two game win streak intact. While The Wildcats had momentum from their last games, it would be the Indians who would dominate the night and pull out a 44-21 victory.

 

Girard came out with a bang, scoring the first 6 points and forcing Struthers to take a timeout that would help the WIldcats to keep it close at 19-12 Girard after 1. Emma Moore had an incredible start, scoring 11 of the 12 for her team including two 3’s, a 2 and going 3-for-3 from the line. Girard was led by MacKenzie White and Mia Malito with White scoring 9 points and Malito putting up 8.

 

The Indians settled in on defense for the rest of the game and continued to pressure Struthers on offense and marched out of the 2nd with 14 points to Struthers 3. It was a difficult quarter for Struthers who had plenty of offensive opportunities that all either saw great blocking from Girard or missed shots. Natalie Wolikow was the needle in the hay stack with a nice made 3. White continued to lead her team this time with 6 points all from beyond the arc while Caylee Wilkes found 5 including an and-1.

 

The second half didn’t see much offense on either side with Girard scoring 7-4 over Struthers in the third. Ava Croyle hit a 3 and Morris went 1-for-2 which would be her final score of the night finishing at 12 points on the night. Malito got back on the score sheet with 3 points while White and Ally Gassman both scored 2. 

 

The scoring woes continued with Girard only putting up 4 points and Struthers 2. Natalie Adams found the two for Struthers while Malito found all 4 for Girard. Despite the low scoring from Girard it wasn’t a big deal when you see the final score.

 

With a great output in the first half and solid defense in the second, Girard showed no issues cruising past Struthers on their home court and picking up their 7th conference win of the season keeping them neck and neck for first with Poland. The Wildcats (5-12, 2-7) will be back home on January 27th to take on West Branch at 12:45PM while Girard (9-8, 7-2) will stay at home to take on Lakeview on January 29th at 6:15PM.

SOUTHERN SPOILS THE EAGLES PLANS

Hanoverton, OH– It was a key game inside the EOAC which featured two of the premier teams as United hosted Southern Local in front of a packed house of Fans. United was looking to remain tied at the top of the standings with Columbiana. However, the Indians started fast from the jump on both sides of the ball and cruised to a 70-40 victory. Southern has now swept United in the season series.

 

Southern Local’s Ashley Shroades was spectacular as always. She led the Indians in scoring with 31 points. Her sister Allyssa was just as good knocking down 6 three pointers scoring 20. Mackenna Jones also added key contributions playing tough defense and was one point shy of double figures with 9 points.

 

United struggled with Southern’s zone the entire game. They were also outrebounded by a sizable margin. Grace Knight led the Golden Eagles with a solid 16 points. She was able to find her offensive rhythm throughout the game. Grayson Kidder also finished in double figures with 11. 

 

With the win, Southern improves to 9-5 (8-2 in the EOAC). They will head back home to host Lisbon this Thursday. United drops to 11-5 (9-2 in the EOAC). The Eagles will travel to Wellsville on Thursday. As of right now Columbiana climbs into sole first place inside the conference with an (8-1 EOAC record). 

 

CARDINALS EMBRACE A ROAD TRIP TO GIRARD

GIRARD, OH – Cardinal Mooney made their way out to Girard to take on one of the top teams in the Northeast 8 on Monday night. Girard showed their skill level early on in this one but showing up so early is what allowed Mooney to figure out a game plan that would allow them to find some impressive buckets and even better defense in a 55-44 victory on the road.

 

The Indians scored the first 4 points of the game before Mooney hit 1-of-2 free throws from Samantha Rotunno to break the silence. Girard would continue to stay consistently on top of Mooney with 5 points from Makenzee White and 3 from Mia Malito but Mooney stayed close with 4 points from Sophia Rotunno and 2 more from Samanthantha Rotunno.

 

With the stage set, Mooney decided to tear it all down and came back with an even better look, a look that would net them 21 points and hold Girard to only 11. Sam Rotunno led the charge with 10 points in the quarter alone which was the most by far on her team. Caylee Wilkes and White would both score 4 points to help the Indians in their quest to keep up with the cardinals. With Rotunno catching fire and much better man-to-man defense, Cardinal Mooney set themselves up nicely for the rest of the night.

 

The scoring slowed down for Mooney out of the break but the good news for them was their defense reigned supreme, only allowing Girard 4 points in the quarter. Gianna Schubert found 2 points in the paint while Malito hit 2-of-2 free throws. Mooney saw Rotunno add 5 more points with two made 2’s and 1-of-2 made free throws. Sophia Diorio would also make a dent by hitting the games first and only 3 pointer. 

 

Girard would not back down in the 4th with a 21 point performance that helped them get close to Mooney at times but the Cardinals found more buckets as well and netted 17 more p;pints which would be enough for them to keep Girard at arms length. Samantha Rotunno added 5 more points which allowed her to finish with 23 points while Diorio added 7 points including 5-of 6 made free throws. 

 

While Girard found their second wind in the 4th it came too late as Cardinal Mooney had done enough to top the Indians and send them to Thursday with another loss. Cardinal Mooney (6-8) are back home on January 24th when they take on the red hot Boardman Spartans at 7:00PM while Girard (8-8) will stay at home for another big conference game when they host Struthers on January 25th at 6:15PM.

TIGERS PUT THE HURT ON SOUTHERN

SALINEVILLE OH- Wellsville delivered an electrifying performance in the EOAC on Thursday night, dominating the Indians with a resounding 71-30 victory.

Tyrell Watkins led the scoring charge for Wellsville, contributing an impressive 18 points, closely followed by Richie Dowling with 17 points and Elijah Douglas adding 14 points. Landon Ramsey also chipped in with 9 points to bolster the team’s offensive prowess.

Southern’s Noah Chase showcased a commendable effort with 14 points, but it wasn’t enough to withstand Wellsville’s relentless attack.

With this emphatic win, Wellsville (7-6) looks to maintain the positive momentum on Tuesday as they host Columbiana. On the other hand, Southern (1-13) moves on to face the Academy of Urban Scholars on Saturday, seeking to regroup and bounce back from the challenging defeat.

WILLIAMS GIVES BULLDOGS FIRST PLACE AT THE BUZZER

GIRARD OH- In a crucial matchup for first place in the NE8, Poland and Girard engaged in a back-and-forth battle on Thursday night. Both teams entered the game with only one loss in the conference, setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown. In a dramatic conclusion to the closely contested affair, Poland’s Leanne Williams delivered a buzzer-beating shot from the block, securing a thrilling 43-41 victory and sole possession of first place.

Mary Brant led the scoring charge for Poland with an impressive 16 points, while Williams contributed 9 points, and Avery Jakubovic and Sophia Generalovich each added 8 points.

On the Girard side, Mackenzie White delivered a standout performance with a game-high 19 points, supported by Ally Gassman with 11 points and Mia Malito adding 7 points.

With this hard-fought win, Poland (8-5) will return home on Monday to host Niles, looking to maintain their position at the top. Girard (7-7) will host Mooney on Monday, aiming to rebound from the narrow defeat and stay competitive in the conference race.

POTTERS GET THE JOB DONE ON SENIOR NIGHT

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- In a thrilling senior night celebration, East Liverpool secured a hard-fought victory over Southern with a final score of 46-44. Despite leading by double figures for most of the game, the Potters had to withstand a furious comeback from Southern to clinch the win.

Cate Davis led East Liverpool’s scoring efforts with 11 points, supported by Aynsley Galeoti with 8 points, and Reagan Edwards, Dacianelle Andrews, Kenzie Headley, and Kenzie Walker each contributing 6 points.

Southern’s Ashley Shroades delivered an outstanding performance, tallying an impressive 24 points, with Alyssa Shroades adding 11 points to the scoreboard.

With this hard-earned victory, East Liverpool (9-7) looks forward to their next challenge, hosting United on Saturday morning at 11:00. Meanwhile, Southern (7-5) aims to bounce back as they host Wellsville on Thursday.

SOUTH RANGE STRIDES THROUGH THE INDIANS

GIRARD OH- In the second round of NE8 play, South Range displayed their prowess on Tuesday, securing a commanding 63-39 victory against Girard on the road.

Leading the charge for South Range, Landon Moore contributed an impressive 19 points, supported by Luke Rohan with 14 points, and Dylan Turvey and Nate Lewis chipping in with 9 and 8 points, respectively.

On the Girard side, Kaiden Clare led the scoring efforts with 12 points, accompanied by Stephen Sims with 8 points and Ahmad Curd contributing 5 points.

With this win, South Range (8-4) maintains their strong season and looks forward to their next challenge at home against Struthers on Friday. Girard (1-12) aims to regroup and find success as they head to Poland on Friday in pursuit of positive momentum.
