BARBATO AND DURKIN DOMINATE ON THE COURT

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The Ursuline Irish are coming down the home stretch of a very successful regular season on the volleyball court, and a large part of the success this season has been due to the experience on the court this year for the Irish. Liza Barbato has been one of the standouts on the court this year, as she has shown consistency and strength during all facets of the game.

Grace Durkin has done a great job setting up Irish attackers all season long, as she currently ranks second on the team in assists with 130, which is just five assists off of the team lead. The Irish currently hold a 13-6 record with just two regular season matches remaining, before what they hope is a long playoff run to follow. Ursuline will need Barbato and Durkin to continue to succeed offensively for the Irish to go as far as they want.

In this week’s Player Profile, Barbato and Durkin talk about their family life off the court, what this season has been like so far, what their journey has been like at Ursuline, and much more!

PESA AND PEPLOWSKI PREVAIL OVER ALL

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The Ursuline Irish are coming down the home stretch of a very successful regular season on the volleyball court, and a large part of the success this season has been due to the experience on the court this year for the Irish. Gracie Pesa has one of the most crucial jobs in the game, and that’s serving. Without a good serve, you can put your team at a disadvantage during the rally, but due to the skill of Pesa, that is something that rarely ever happens.

Kelly Peplowski has been huge for the Irish all season long both attacking and defensively at the net for Ursuline, currently ranking second on the team in kills and blocks. Gracie, Kelly, and their teammates have jumped out to a 13-6 record, and with little time remaining in the regular season, the Irish are hoping to hit their stride at the right time.

In this week’s Player Profile, Pesa and Peplowski talk about their journey at Ursuline, their favorite part about the sport, and more!

LAMB AND OPALICK SCORCH THE NET

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The Ursuline Irish Volleyball team is coming down the home stretch of the 2022, and up to this point, senior leadership has played a big role in the current success of the program. One of those seniors is Mia Opalick who has been huge defensively for the Irish while helping set up the offense this fall. Opalick currently ranks third on the team in total digs with 87 on the season, and Ursuline will need her to continue to be successful if the Irish want to make a deep playoff run. Opalick, like so many other seniors on the Irish, has displayed a big role with her experience in key situations, and has helped put Ursuline in such a good spot this late in the season.

Another senior, Trinity Lamb, has been one of the best players in the valley this year for one of the valley’s best teams, as she currently leads the way for Ursuline with 95 kills and 55 blocks. With two matches remaining in the regular season, the Irish will need Lamb to continue to produce heading into postseason play.

In this week’s Player Profile, Lamb and Opalick talk about the bond that this senior group has, what it’s like to play at a school like Ursuline, and more!

URSULINE CLOSES SEASON WITH 5TH PLACE FINISH AT DISTRICTS

HARTVILLE OH- Ursuline did their absolute best on Thursday in Hartville at Sable Creek. TIGERS TAKE BACK AND FORTH TUSSLE WITH URSULINE

HOWLAND OH- It definitely wasn’t your typical three set sweep on Tuesday night in Howland. The Tigers did win all three sets against Ursuline, but it was a battle.  (26-24 25-22 25-23)

In the first set, it was Ursuline that got off to a great start. They led 11-5 early and had momentum. Howland then scored 6 points in a row to tie it at 11. Later on in the set, Ursuline would take another big lead, but the Tigers would not be denied. They pushed their way to win set 1 and that set the tone for the rest of the game. It was the Tigers that opened up the big early lead in set 2. Then Ursuline would fight their way all the way back with a 5-0 rally.  The Tigers would once again have to battle to the end to take a 2-0 lead. The third set was when the Tigers saved the best comeback for last.  Trailing 20-11 in set 3, Howland went on an 11-0 run, and eventually won set three to secure the sweep.

Courtney Clark led the Tigers with an impressive 21 kills. She also was the one to put the match away with a kill in the 3rd.  Sianna Dykes was another big key to the Tigers offense as she gathered 14 kills. The two hitters were responsible for 35 of the 43 Tiger kills.

Ursuline was led by Trinity Lamb who finished with 9 kills, and 3 blocks. Laurden DiNardo finished with 8 kills for the Irish.

Howland will return to action on Thursday as they travel to Canfield. Ursuline returns home on Thursday to host Salem.

RICCHUITI REIGNS SUPREME

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – Luca Ricchiuti is one of many seniors that brings something very special to the table this year for the program, and that is hardship. During Ricchiuti’s Freshman season, the Irish were only able to muster two wins, that season also being Coach Reardon’s first back in Youngstown. Fast-forward four years, and the Irish have a very big opportunity to accomplish something that not many other teams in the state have a real chance to do, and that is compete for a state title. Ricchiuti’s experience through the lows of a less-than-stellar Freshman season, accompanied by the highs of a junior season that saw the Irish advance all the way to the state title game, gives him a great opportunity to help lead this 2022 Ursuline squad.

In this week’s Player Profile, Luca talks about his journey at Ursuline, what he wants out of his senior season, what to look forward to in this week’s matchup, and more!
