RANGE CAN’T HOLD ON, SPRINGFIELD STORMS BACK VICTORIOUS

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH- A walk-off left the South Range Raiders on the wrong end of a 9-8 defeat to Springfield on Saturday. The game was tied at eight with Springfield batting in the bottom of the tenth when Jarrett Orbin singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run.

Offensively, both teams collected 15 hits apiece in the high-scoring affair.

Raiders fired up the offense in the first inning, when Ben Rivera doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.

The real story came in the bottom of the seventh inning, Springfield tied things up at eight when Aj Stallsmith doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.  Springfield scored four runs in the seventh inning. Springfield big bats were led by Chris Thompson and Stallsmith, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Adam Kawecki led things off on the hill for Springfield. He allowed nine hits and eight runs over four innings, walking zero.

Nick Habeth started the game for the Raiders. He went five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking zero. Dylan DominguezJake Gehring, and Kris Scandy each contributed in relief for South Range.

Of the Raiders collective 15 hits, Ben RiveraBrandon MikosTrey PancakeJard Bajerski, and Jake Gehring each collected multiple hits for RaidersTrey PancakeBrandon Mikos, and Ben Rivera had three hits to lead Raiders. The Raiders was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Trey Pancake made the most plays with 13.

Springfield also totaled 15 hits in the game. OrbinStallsmithThompsonNick Slike, and Brannon Brungard all managed multiple hits for Springfield. Orbin led Springfield with three hits in five at-bats.
