A TIGER GUARDING THE GATES

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Springfield has officially punched their ticket to the 2023 State Tournament! They’ve had contributions from everybody on their roster, and everyone on their team would agree with that. The Tigers are coming off a yard where they got to regionals, but couldn’t get through Buckeye Central.  This season with a lot of the same players, the Tigers made the push to win a regional championship.  So the question is, what was the big differences? One of the biggest improvements that have been made is the development of sophomore Jameka Brungard.

The footwork, and the physicality that Jameka has brought to her game this season has been a game changer.  It has given the Tigers a serious threat in the paint that most teams at this level aren’t equipped to handle.  When asked what the keys her growth were, the answer from Jameka was pretty simple. It was time put in.  Like everything in life the more time you put in to something, the more you’ll get out of it.  No one has put more time in to their game than Jameka Brungard that is for sure.

Don’t take our word for it, Brungard’s numbers tell the whole story this season. In her second season on the varsity level in the Tigers program Brungard averages 9.4 points per game, and over 7 rebounds per game.  That gives the Tigers two players that are both averaging high numbers in points and rebounds.  You can’t put into words how valuable that has been for this program.

Janeka took the time to chat with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig about this incredible season she has put together.  They talk about the work ethic it took to develop, what it feels like going to state, and so much more. Check out the latest Springfield Girls Basketball Player Profile only on YSN.
