It’s back to work for the Lady Raiders this week after a much needed week off. The Raiders got back to business in Girard escaping an upset bid from the Indians. A game that Coach Fishel thinks they may not have won two weeks ago when they were fatigued. Looking ahead the Raiders finish off the week against Jefferson, and then welcome in Poland to start off next week. If both teams stay the course this week, Monday’s matchup will put the winner in the NE8 driver’s seat.

The South Range Lady Raiders split their Holiday Hoops tournament last weekend dropping a game to West Branch, and beating Salem the next day. Now the Raiders have 9 days to get back in the gym and get better. For Coach Fishel this chance to work with the team in practice was much needed. It’s in an important spot in the season as well. The Raiders look ahead to finish the first half of NE8 play next week with games against Girard and Jefferson.

Jeff Fishel is well on his way in his first season coaching the Lady Raiders. The team is 7-3 and coming off a week where they beat Niles and played Canfield close on the road. The Raiders now get to look ahead as they host the Holiday Hoops Classic this weekend with games vs West Branch and Salem.

South Range has had an impressive stretch of games since the last time we’ve caught up with coach Jeff Fishel. A close loss to a Poland team that dominated the season series a year ago and wins over Hubbard, Ursuline, and Struthers. Coach Fishel wants the team to stay competitive in a stretch of games where they play 9 times with just 4 practices in that stretch.

The Lady Raiders got their first win under Coach Fishel over the weekend vs Shaw. He thinks playing in a tournament style setting to open the season will be huge for his team going forward. There’s a new leader in town at South Range for the Lady Raider basketball program. The new head of the program Jeff Fishel is the definition of a true Raider. He played basketball at South Range, and coached the freshman boys for eight seasons before getting the job as the head coach for the girls varsity squad. He inherits a program that has won four of the last six district championships. And he wants to build on that success and take the team to the next level.
