OLEXA, TURN ON THE POWER

BOARDMAN OH- When it comes to power in the Spartans lineup, you need look no further than Jenna Olexa. There aren’t too many players in the game who can hit a softball harder. That doesn’t always mean a home run either. While Olexa is certainly capable of launching balls over the fence, she’ll gladly take hard hit doubles to the gap.

Jenna has taken a lot of pressure off herself this season by making the decision to not play in college. As a sports society, we take so much time to wonder where someone will play at the next level, and how far they’ll go. However, sometimes playing after high school just isn’t the right fit, and that takes nothing away from the player or the person. Olexa has become a great example to young players that you can love the game, work hard at everything you do with it, but also not be defined or wrapped up in it. In a time where we are seeing athletes at all levels struggle with value and identity being tied to results, Jenna has made the mature decision to get away from that mindset, and it’s setting her up for maybe her best season yet.

Olexa comes in to today batting .423 which is good for 2nd on the team, and with 14 RBI on the season. But even more impressive than her consistent offensive presence is how good the globe is now that Jenna has taken a loose and pressure free mindset. She has 99 total chances so far at short, and has an impressive fielding percentage of .960. She’s in the middle of what might just be the best defensive infield in the area.

Jenna was able to join us on YSN’s Running Point to talk about her final season at Boardman. She talks with Anthony Hartwig, and Ty Bartell about taking pressure off herself, what she does to lead the team, and so much more. Spartans fans catch up with one of the best in the latest Boardman softball player profiles.
