STRUTHERS FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 3) WITH JOHN BAYUK

STRUTHERS OH- The 2000s era to now has been up and down for the struthers wildcats. After the 1999 season where the team finished 7-5 under Gary Zetts, the team went 12 seasons without making the playoffs until Curt Kuntz second season with the team. After Kuntz left in 2019 to be on the coaching staff for the Miami Dolphins under then head coach Brian Flores, the team needed a new leader. Bring in John Bayuk, who was the defensive coordinator under Kuntz the last three seasons. He also coached for the Campbell Memorial Red Devils under his father/ Hall Of Fame coach Jeff Bayuk who is now the head coach at Warren JFK.

His first season was tough when he was appointed as just two months in, the season for the wildcats and all high school sports looked to have been in jeopardy after the lockdown of the pandemic in 2020. The season did continue as planned a little differently with their only being six games and everyone making the playoffs. In his first season, the Wildcats finished two and five, losing to Salem in the playoffs 34-19. The next season, the Wildcats finished 4-6, missing the new 16 seed playoffs. This year, looked to have been the same, until Bayuk and his talented group of kids won five straight and last week beating Poland 35-7, locking them into the playoffs with eighth seed.

On this coach’s corner, Ian O’Brien talks with coach John Bayuk about the season, the big win to lock them into the playoffs and what to expect against Edgewood this Friday. STRUTHERS FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH JOHN BAYUK

STRUTHERS OH- Do not look now, but The Struthers Wildcats have clawed their way back into the playoffs! Following a near-detrimental 1-4 start to the regular season that included two overtime losses, things were looking bleak for Struthers faithful. However, an emphatic 41-3 victory at home against Lakeview got The Cats right back on track. Collecting big conference wins against Jefferson, Niles and Girard in the weeks to follow, The Wildcats have now rattled off four straight wins to get themselves to 5-4 on the year.

More importantly, Struthers has clinched a playoff berth after the win against #2 ranked Girard in Region 13 at the time. Although in the playoffs, The Wildcats have an opportunity to host a game in Struthers, providing they can take care of business in Week 10. Their opponent? The Poland Bulldogs (5-4) coming off a spoiled senior night courtesy of The Jefferson Falcons. It will be a battle as old as the test of times its Cats vs. Dogs in Week 10 on YSN!

STRUTHERS OH- As the calendar continues to flip its pages, we get closer and closer to football season. Inside the NE8 a dark horse looms in the Struthers Wildcats.  A young team last year that is coming into the season with tons of experience. They’ll look to make waves this season as they open their skate on Friday, August 19th vs St Thomas Aquinas.

Head Coach John Bayuk once again returns to lead the Wildcats. His love for the community, and school system keeps him coming back.  He stopped by YSN’s Running Point to help us preview the Struthers season.  He talked to Anthony Hartwig about his returning leaders, what makes Struthers special, and much more. STRUTHERS OH- The Wildcats have faced a brutal schedule in 2021. Through all the tough teams here they stand after 7 weeks with a winning record of 4-3. The Wildcats lost three games in a row to Streetsboro, South Range, then Hubbard. To add to the adversity, the Wildcats have had to put in new players in new places to adjust to injuries. Through it all the Wildcats have a playoff spot to contend for.

Head coach John Bayuk took the time out of his busy week to come on to YSN’s Running Point. He talks with Anthony Hartwig, and Ty Bartell about the adversity they’ve faced this year, the leadership his team has shown, and much more. Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner With John Bayuk is live.

STRUTHERS OH- Football season is fast approaching in the area, and a sense of normalcy is returning in the air. Crowds are welcome back into football stadiums, and there may not be many communities more excited about it than Struthers.

The Wildcats finished the strange 2020 season featuring only 6 regular season games before playoffs started with a record of 2-6. They started the season 2-1 and then hit a rough patch. The Wildcats open the 2021 season on August 20th at St. Thomas Aquinas. Their non conference schedule also includes Crestwood, and Streetsboro.

Wildcats head coach John Bayuk took the time to call in to YSN’s Running Point to preview the 2021 season. They discuss the new playoff format allowing 16 teams in per region, what to expect from the Wildcats, and much more. STRUTHERS, OH – Week one saw Coach John Bayuk and the Struthers Wildcats take on the Hubbard Eagles in a much-anticipated rivalry game. The Cats fought hard all night but came up just a little short. Coach Bayuk and his squad are ready to bounce back in week two against the Lakeview Bulldogs.

YSN’s own, Rob Musch, was able to chat with Coach Bayuk about their week one matchup, what the Wildcats and his coaching staff took away from that game, but also what Coach Bayuk expects from his squad this week against the Bulldogs.
