RAIDERS PREVAIL OVER UNITED TO WIN SECTIONALS

CANFIELD OH- South Range found themselves hosting an old foe on Thursday as they played United with a sectional title on the line. With one win separating the two team’s records it promised to be a tight competitive match. It definitely lived up to the hype as the Raiders came out on top in a  close four set victory (23-25 28-26 25-9 25-21).

The first two sets of the night were decided by two points. They traded blows back and forth as Tori Tschappatt and Izzy Lamparty both were able to find rhythm for their respective sides. United came out on top of set 1 25-23, while the Raiders finally ended a long set 2 28-26.

The third set is when things turned, and dramatically. The Raiders turned up the aggressiveness from the serve line and gave the Eagles fits. Julia Blasko served for 11 points in a row as the Raiders rolled through set 3 25-9.

Credit to the Eagles for bringing back their toughness in set 4, it would have been easy to pack it in. That’s not what United is about. They fought like crazy to stay in set 4. Lamparty and Ally Sauerwein both proved to be too much for the Eagles to handle out of the middle. The Raiders pulled out the 25-21 win to seal the match.

Lamparty has a tremendous night with 19 kills and 5 blocks. Ally Sauerwein finished with 8 blocks. Julia Blasko served well for the Raiders finishing with 5 aces. Reagan Irons led the defense with 23 digs. Sarah Kuhns ran the offense and set up 14 assists.

Tschappatt led the Eagles with 11 kills on the night. Senior Brooke Smith went out on a high note leading the team with 15 digs. Haley Dees finished with a match high 28 assists.

The Raiders advance to the district semifinals where they will travel to Cardinal the second seed in the bracket. That match will start at 6:00

 

 

RAIDERS TAKE CARE OF CAMPBELL

CANFIELD OH- South Range took their first step towards their fourth district championship in eight seasons on Tuesday with a quick sweep of Campbell (25-11 25-12 25-5).

Izzy Lamparty led the Raiders offense with 8 kills.  Julia Blasko led the defense with 9 digs. Sarah Kuhns set well and collected 8 assists. Jamie Feren served well and racked up 6 aces.

South Range advances to the sectional championship on Thursday where they’ll host six seeded United at 6:00.

RAIDERS CLOSE OUT NE8 PLAY WITH A WIN

POLAND OH- After almost a week off, The Raiders finished their conference  season strong with a hard fought four set victory over Poland (25-12 25-22 22-25 25-22).

Izzy Lamparty led the Raiders with 14 kills on the night and 5 blocks. Julia Blasko served phenomenally collecting 9 aces. Reagan Irons notched her season high in digs with 38. Jamie Feren set up 19 assists.

Poland was led by Alexia Kalicatzaros who finished with 9 kills. Alyssa Glaros put together a great defensive night with 37 digs. Madison Wess set up 10 assists for the Bulldogs.

South Range will host Campbell in round one of the OHSAA tournament on Tuesday, Poland will travel to Girard in their first tournament game on Wednesday.

RAIDERS SHOCK GIRARD

CANFIELD OH- South Range is starting to find some confidence this week inside the NE8. They started the week with a sweep of Mooney, followed it up with a sweep over a Hubbard team they lost to earlier in the season. Girard was not having as good of a week. After dropping a heartbreaker to Lakeview, they also couldn’t overcome Poland on Tuesday in a 3-1 loss. The Raiders added to their woes with a shocking sweep on Thursday (28-26 26-24 26-24).

Izzy Lamparty led the Raiders offense with 10 kills. Julia Blasko and Juli Stachowicz has strong night’s as well totaling 9 kills each. Reagan Irons was masterful in the back row with 35 digs. Sarah Kuhns set up 19 assists. Jamie Feren and Bri Hiner both served two aces.

Lauren Pallone led Girard with a match-high 15 kills. Bree Latell was also in double digits with 10 kills. Pallone recorded a double double adding 14 digs to her night. Latell did the same with 12 digs. Allison Durkin led the way in assists with 17. She also served up 3 aces.

South Range will take a week off to prepare for currently unbeaten Lakeview in Cortland on Thursday. Girard will look to right the ship hosting Niles on Tuesday.

JEFFERSON HANGS RAIDERS OUT TO DRY

The Jefferson Varsity Volleyball team picks up another win this evening over the South Range Raiders. The Falcons beat them in four sets with scores of 23-25, 25-11, 25-14, 27-25.

The Falcons were led in digs by Chloe O’Rourke who finished with 21. She also served up 5 aces. Taylor Skinner led in kills with 13. Tory Durkin ran the offense and set up 24 assists.

The Raiders were led by Hannah Hiekkinen with 7 kills. Maddie Dado played great defense with a match-high 25 digs.  Jamie Feren set up 13 assists. Izzy Lamparty, and Julia Blasko has 3 blocks a piece.

Jefferson’s overall record is 7-4 and 6-4 in the Northeast Eight Conference.  The Falcons travel to Edgewood next Monday, Sept.28 for an Ashtabula county matchup. Action for the JV starts at 5:30pm with the Varsity following them..

The Raiders will regroup over the weekend and travel to Mooney on Monday.

BOARDMAN PASSES TEST AGAINST RAIDERS

BOARDMAN OH-

Boardman Girls Varsity Volleyball advances to 5-3 on the season with a win tonight over South Range, 3 sets to 1. (25-12 19-25 25-21 25-10). The Spartans were led by Katie Stamp with 17 kills, 20 digs, 3 blocks and 3 aces. Maria Torres added 11 kills, 17 digs and 4 blocks. Setter Raegan Burkey had 34 assists on the night with 18 digs. Jenna Olexa and Kathryn O’Horo each added 11 digs and 6 kills. Kamryn Duritza rounded off the night with 10 digs.

Julie Stachowicz led the Raiders in kills with 6. Reagan Irons collected 15 digs. Jamie Feren set up 11 assists. Julia Blasko had 2 aces.

The Spartan will hit the road on Thursday to take on the Howland Tigers.

The Raiders will host Lakeview. That game will be live on YSN.

POTTERS SHINE IN SATURDAY MATINEE

CANFIELD OH- With a big conference matchup with Lakeview looming, South Range looked to sharpen up outside of the conference. East Liverpool brought more than the Raiders could handle however, as they dominated a sweep (25-22 25-20 25-17).

The Potters proved resilient all day. Every time the Raiders string together points, Liverpool would not panic and answer right back limiting the damage. That tenacity was in full show in set one when the Raiders had a 21-17 lead late in the set. Calm cool, and collected East Liverpool responded and grabbed a 23-22 lead, and finished to win the set 25-22.

More of the same thing happened in set two when the Raiders jumped out to a 5-1 lead to start set one, but East Liverpool once again fought right back to tie, and eventually push ahead. They’d go on to win set two 25-20, and use a strong start to cruise in set three 25-17.

Sharnae Wilson was everywhere on the day. She finished with 16 kills and 4 blocks. Addison Galeoti played some under the radar defense collecting a solid 24 digs. Alexa Aldrich showed off her range as a setter and finished with 18 assists.

Izzy Lamparty led the Raiders in kills with 7. Jamie Feren set well in the Raiders 6-2 rotation finishing with 7 assists, she also served up 2 aces. Reagan Irons and Julia Blasko both led with 18 digs.

South Range will regroup on Monday and travel to Boardman.
