URSULINE BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH KEITH GUNTHER

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Ursuline is coming off a boys basketball season that has a mixed bag of emotions attached to it.  The Irish had one of if not the best regular season their program has ever had, but they fell short of the goal in postseason.  Irish fans shouldn’t have to worry though because Keith Gunther is back for his 21st season as the head coach of the Irish, and he thinks this year’s group is something special.  They’ve beefed up their schedule even more, and have a lineup with weaknesses that are hard to find.  You might just hear a lot about how good the Irish are this year.

Coach Gunther was able to spend some time talking with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig to preview the upcoming season. YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO- What a magnificent season it has been for the Ursuline Irish men’s basketball team. Even though it has been a magnificent season, Ursuline has kept their eyes on one main goal, a state title. The man that has been guiding these young men and inching them closer and closer to that goal is Head Coach Keith Gunther. Gunther has kept these men focused on their journey to a state title and it their journey started as soon as they lost to Howland in the Division II tournament a year ago. Gunther has done well with his squad as he and his team are just one win away from a district championship. The only team that stand in their way is Gilmour Academy, who they will take on this Saturday night at 7.

Coach Gunther has the time to talk to YSN’s Matt Morrison about the wonderful journey this team has been on and as well objectives that they still face. Check out this exclusive interview only on YSN!

When you add that to the fact to that the Irish are returning some very highly talented players, and athletes coming off a extremely successful football season, things are looking bright for Ursuline. URSULINE IRISH BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 3) WITH KEITH GUNTHER

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The Ursuline Fighting Irish are playing very high level basketball as they are currently on a seven game winning streak! The Fighting Irish, under head coach Keith Gunther, are 8-3 overall after winning a tightly contested ball game over Youngstown East, 67-66, last Friday night! Ursuline will look to continue their winning streak this week as they will have three games, up first will be a game against the Chaney Cowboys on Tuesday night, Thursday night will see the Irish take on the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals, and on Friday night the Badger Braves will come to town.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to sit down via video chat this week with Coach Gunther to talk about the Irish winning streak, how he and his staff are able to continue the successful season so far while maintaining focus every night, what his thoughts are for what the Irish need to do to extend their streak, and what Coach’s preview is for this jam packed week of basketball games!

YOUNGSTOWN OH – Head coach Keith Gunther and the Ursuline Fighting Irish are off to a great start as they are 6-3 but on a five game winning streak! The Irish will look to continue their winning ways as they will take on the Warren G. Harding Raiders on Tuesday and then their rivals the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals on Friday.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, had the opportunity to catch up with Coach Gunther via video chat this week to discuss the current season, how the Fighting Irish are approaching a “special” kind of season due to COVID, how he and his staff have been going about he season with scouting and game prep being difficult due to the restrictions, and much much more!

URSULINE BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 1) WITH KEITH GUNTHER

Coming off a gauntlet of a first half to the 2019-2020 basketball season, Coach Keith Gunther and his Ursuline Irish squad are looking to make some noise in 2020. Everyone knows the best way to start it off is by winning the first edition of the “Holy War” in hoops and that will be played at Ursuline tonight. After that the Irish will play back to back home games against Chaney next Tuesday then Bristol that Friday.

Coach Gunther has been a well-known figure in Youngstown as he patrols the sideline for Ursuline, YSN’s own Steve Leslie, had the chance to sit down and talk with him this week to preview the much-anticipated match up with Cardinal Mooney but also get an idea what it’s like to be coaching this group of young men, as well as, where he thinks the Irish will continue to grow as the season progresses.
