RED DEVILS BOUNCE RIGHT BACK

CAMPBELL OH- Campbell Memorial’s volleyball team reclaimed their winning form with a hard-fought victory over Liberty in a three-set thriller, demonstrating their resilience and determination on the court.

The first set set the tone for Campbell’s dominance as they secured a decisive 25-8 win, displaying their offensive firepower and strong defensive presence. This commanding performance put Liberty on the backfoot early in the match.

Liberty, however, fought back fiercely in the following set, pushing Campbell to the limit. The set ended with a tight scoreline of 26-24, but Campbell held their composure and determination, ultimately clinching the set.

The third set proved to be another closely contested battle, with both teams refusing to give in. Campbell managed to secure the set 25-23, illustrating their ability to thrive under pressure and close out a match.

Throughout the game, Campbell Memorial’s standout players showcased their skills. Kendall Brunn led the team with 12 kills, while MiLeena Williams contributed nine. The team’s blocking was led by Angeliz Diaz with two blocks, and Carla Ramirez Ortiz delivered 35 crucial assists. Cyra Cross, Gabby Villanueva Santos, Angeliz Diaz, and Jayda Coriano were instrumental in the defensive effort, recording significant dig totals.

This victory marks a turning point for Campbell Memorial as they regain their winning momentum. The team’s strong performance and resilience are indicative of their potential in the upcoming matches.

LIBERTY KNOCKS OFF THE COWBOYS

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Liberty showcased their dominance on the volleyball court with a convincing victory over Chaney, sealing the match with scores of 25-11, 25-15, and 25-12. The standout performance of the day came from Lexi Muck, who led her team’s offensive charge with an impressive 19 kills. Muck’s contributions didn’t stop there; she also recorded 2 blocks and served up an ace, highlighting her all-around abilities.

Mia Parker took charge of the playmaking duties, notching 2 kills, 17 assists, and an impressive 5 aces, making her a pivotal player in the team’s success. Chloe Fleps played a crucial role with 6 assists, facilitating the team’s offensive coordination. Amira Smith added to the team’s offensive firepower with 3 kills and contributed defensively with 1 block. Liberty’s well-rounded performance and standout individual efforts resulted in a commanding victory, underscoring their prowess on the volleyball court.

WAKING A LEOPARD IS A BAD IDEA

LIBERTY OH- Liberty awoke with determination, securing their first victory of the season in a commanding fashion, overpowering Crestview with a final score of 41-6. The game kicked off with Crestview’s Jake Doling capping an impressive 73-yard opening drive with a 17-yard rushing TD, although the PAT was missed, giving Crestview an early 6-0 lead. Liberty quickly responded as Dawaun Moody burst through the defense for a stunning 48-yard rushing TD, tying the game at 6-6.

In the second quarter, Liberty’s Dwayne Moody showcased his explosive speed with an incredible 85-yard rushing TD, followed by a successful 2-point conversion by Tawann Tutwiler, resulting in a 14-6 lead for Liberty. Crestview mounted a promising drive, but it ended at the Liberty 10-yard line following a Dwayne Moody interception with just 27 seconds left in the half.

After halftime, Liberty’s defense tightened, with Ethan Kane intercepting Crestview’s pass at the Liberty 25-yard line. Crestview struggled to find their rhythm, resulting in a three-and-out. Liberty capitalized on their momentum, with Dwayne Moody adding an 18-yard rushing TD and Tawann Tutwiler connecting with Dawaun Moody for a 33-yard TD pass, although the PAT was blocked, extending the lead to 20-6.

The fourth quarter continued to favor Liberty as Tayon Sly intercepted a pass and returned it for a 61-yard pick-six, with the PAT good, making it 35-6. Crestview’s woes continued as they fumbled the ensuing kickoff, giving Liberty excellent field position. Tutwiler added to the lead with a 40-yard rushing TD, although the PAT was no good, sealing the deal with a final score of 41-6 in favor of Liberty. This decisive victory marked a turning point for Liberty’s season, and they look ahead to their next matchup at home against Brookfield, while Crestview will seek redemption at home against Campbell Memorial.

LIBERTY SHORES UP MVAC SWEEP

LIBERTY OH- In an impressive display of skill, Liberty’s volleyball team secured a commanding sweep over Brookfield within the conference, with set scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-22.

The victory showcased Liberty’s prowess and determination on the court. Leading the charge was Lexi Muck, who contributed an impressive 12 kills, 3 blocks, and 1 ace. Mia Parker’s versatility was on full display as she notched 5 kills, 10 assists, 18 digs, and 1 ace, showcasing her impact in multiple facets of the game. Chloe Fleps played a crucial role with 10 digs and 7 assists, ensuring seamless coordination for the team. Trinity Patterson’s 3 kills further bolstered Liberty’s offensive efforts.

With this dominant win in their pocket, Liberty looks forward to their next challenge as they prepare to face Newton Falls in their upcoming match on Thursday.

PARKER HITS MILESTONE, LIBERT HITS ANOTHER WIN

LIBERTY OH-  Liberty got right back on the horse after a tough loss to Crestview in their last outing. The Leopards welcomed in Springfield and beat the Tigers in 4 sets (25-22 25-20 20-25 26-24).

Lexi Muck had another amazing night with 20 kills, 8 blocks, 4 aces, and 3 digs.  Mia Parker had a double double on the night with  12 kills, 14 assists, 13 digs, and 1 ace. Parker hit the career milestone of 500 digs. Amira Smith was a presence at the net for Liberty and had 3 Kills and 3 Blocks  Chloe Fleps was close to a double double with 9 assists and 10 digs

Despite dropping the match the Tigers put up some impressive numbers. They had two players achieve double doubles on the night. Jameka Brungard had one with 17 kills and 11 digs.  Baelyn Brungard had the other with 27 digs and 15 kills.  Mariana Tuscano made a difference on the service line gathering 19 service points including nine aces.

Liberty’s next match is against Brookfield at Home on Tuesday. Springfield will travel to Sebring on Tuesday.

REIGNING BIG DOG HAS BIG PLANS

Lexi Muck, a senior middle blocker and team captain for the Liberty volleyball team, has become a name synonymous with excellence on the court. A true leader both in skill and spirit, Muck has proven her mettle time and again, and her community gets that too. Their votes last season earned her the title of  YSN Big Dog of the Year. She looks forward to defending that title with plenty of opportunities to get a nod as a Big Dog nominee.

In the 2022 season, Muck’s remarkable stats showcased her prowess as an athlete. With an impressive tally of 280 kills, an average of 3.2 kills per set, and an outstanding hitting percentage of .303, Muck’s contributions were a driving force behind her team’s successes. Her defensive capabilities shone with 94 blocks, securing her the 8th spot in the state for blocks. Additionally, Muck’s versatility extended to her serving game, where she tallied 21 aces.

Continuing her trailblazing performance into 2023, Muck’s impact remains undeniable. Through two matches, she has showcased her consistency with an astounding 40 kills, a remarkable .448 hitting percentage, and an incredible 5.7 kills per set. Her contributions on the defensive front include 3 blocks, while her precise serves have resulted in 5 aces.

Beyond her achievements on the court, Muck is already planning for her future. With aspirations of majoring in early childhood education, she aims to extend her influence beyond the court and into the classroom. While her collegiate volleyball journey beckons, Muck’s commitment to both her sport and education demonstrates her well-rounded dedication to growth and success.

As Lexi Muck continues to leave an indelible mark on the Liberty volleyball program, her unwavering dedication, exceptional skills, and leadership qualities set an inspiring example for her teammates and aspiring athletes alike. With her sights set on both academic and athletic excellence, the future holds boundless possibilities for this remarkable young athlete.

LIBERTY CAN FOCUS ON BIG TEST AHEAD

Liberty delivered a commanding performance, sweeping East with a 3-0 victory (25-12, 25-20, 25-10).

The team showcased impressive skills with Mia Parker’s all-around performance of 4 kills, 4 aces, 22 assists, and 8 digs. Lexi Muck’s dominance was evident through her 20 kills, 2 blocks, and 3 aces, while Amira Smith added 4 kills to the scoreboard. Sara Horn contributed significantly with 4 aces and 7 digs.

Liberty is gearing up for a thrilling match against conference champions Crestview in their upcoming Thursday game.

LEOPARDS LEAP IN FRONT OF JFK

LIBERTY OH- In an exciting volleyball clash, Liberty clashed with Warren JFK in a high-stakes showdown that brought out the best in both teams.

Liberty’s offensive powerhouses, Lexi Muck and Mia Parker, led the charge with 20 and 9 kills respectively, demonstrating their prowess at the net. Mia Parker also showcased her serving skills, amassing an impressive 6 aces that kept Warren JFK on the defensive. On the defensive end, Parker’s versatility shone through with 11 digs, while Chloe Fleps and Meadow Smith each contributed 10 digs, working together to keep rallies alive.

Parker’s contributions extended beyond her individual stats, as she played a pivotal role in orchestrating the team’s plays with 20 assists, securing a double-double performance. With one kill shy of a triple-double, Parker’s versatility and leadership were undeniable.

With this formidable performance, Liberty showcased their determination and skill on the court. As the team prepares for their next match against East on Tuesday, August 22nd, they carry the momentum from this game into their upcoming challenges.

LIBERTY VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH KELLY BARLEY

LIBERTY OH- Liberty volleyball definitely put themselves on the map last season. They blew people’s expectations out of the water and competed strong against everyone.  Liberty returns reigning YSN Big Dog of the Year Lexi Muck who will solidify their middle block.  Her and her fellows seniors are going to make sure you know who you’re dealing with when Liberty walks in the gym. Kelly Barley is back for another season as the head coach of the Leopards. She brings a strong volleyball mind, and a competitive instinct that trickles into every one of her players.

LOUISVILLE OH- Louisville Schools Announces Dan Moody as Head Girls Basketball Coach
Louisville, Ohio — Louisville City School District is pleased to welcome Dan Moody— he was approved as the new head girls’ basketball coach at the Board of Education meeting on Monday, June 26, 2023.

Dan is a Louisville graduate who attended Akron University and has been coaching basketball since 2004. He coached at Heritage Christian for 11 years before taking positions at Fairless, Sandy Valley, and Lake Center Christian. Most recently, he has spent his last 3 years coaching at various levels here in Louisville for both the boys’ and girls’ basketball programs.

“Coach Moody understands the game of basketball on many levels. He believes in building relationships and building players. His analytical skills in breaking down film and applying them to everyday practices to catapult individual players to become amazing team players likely comes from his experience as a supervisor at Timken Steel.” said Louisville Athletic Director, Terrie Horn.

“With the combination of Dan Moody’s depth of knowledge, and the talented athletes currently in the program, there is no limit to what this team is capable of achieving now and for years to come.”

When asked why do you coach, Moody stated, “First of all, it’s fun! | enjoy having a positive influence on students and teaching them life lessons that come through sports. | love playing, watching and teaching sports. Team sports have many positive effects, which benefit the students socially, mentally and physically for a lifetime.”

Superintendent Shaffer said, “Hiring former Louisville grads continues to speak volumes for the individuals wanting to give back to the community in which they grew up; it strengthens the culture of Louisville. Since Dan has worked as a coach in the district for the last 3 years, his transition to head coach will allow the program to continue to advance seamlessly.”

Our high school girls’ basketball program has a bright future. We welcome Mr. Dan Moody as Louisville High School’s new head girls’ basketball coach.
