CANFIELD SOCCER PLAYERS SCORE BIG IN THE FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER

CANFIELD OH- Canfield High School’s soccer field became the backdrop for an incredible display of unity, fundraising, and athletic prowess when senior soccer stars, Maci Toporcer and Zaid Atway, came together for a fantastic cause. On the evenings of September 23rd and October 4th, the community joined in their passion for soccer and their commitment to combating breast cancer.

Maci and Zaid, who are part of Canfield High School’s National Honor Society, organized these special “pink out” games as part of their NHS service project. The idea was to leverage their love for soccer to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer, a cause close to the hearts of so many.

Their hard work and dedication paid off remarkably. Through ingenious initiatives like game jersey sponsorships, t-shirt sales, and delicious bake goods, they managed to raise more than $4,700. This remarkable achievement goes beyond merely scoring goals on the soccer field—it’s a goal in the fight against breast cancer.

The proceeds from the Pink Out games are set to be donated to The Susan G. Komen Foundation, an organization that’s renowned worldwide for its tireless dedication to breast cancer research and treatment. With almost $1.1 billion invested in research, Komen is a formidable force in the fight against breast cancer, focusing on aggressive and deadly forms of the disease.

The impact of Komen’s work is profound. To date, they’ve channeled their resources into over 2,800 breast cancer research studies and nearly 550 clinical trials. These efforts aim to unearth new discoveries, treatment methods, and ultimately, a cure for breast cancer.

For Maci and Zaid, this project represented more than raising funds. It served as a real-world lesson in project management, including organizing and managing finances. But perhaps the most profound lesson was in the power of community.

Soccer fans, students, families, and friends came together, donning pink attire, and filling the stands. This vivid show of support and solidarity is a testament to the impact of the fight against breast cancer, which affects so many lives. Maci and Zaid demonstrated that in sports, and in life, we are at our strongest when we unite for a great cause.

This admirable endeavor showcases the incredible impact that young people can make by pursuing their passions and harnessing their collective power to affect positive change. Maci Toporcer and Zaid Atway have proven that, with determination, teamwork, and a shared goal, we can all be champions in the fight against breast cancer.
