HEARTLAND DISPATCHES BLUE JAYS AND MOVES ON

COLUMBIANA OH- On paper the matchup between Jackson Milton and Heartland seemed like an even one. The Lions left no doubt on the court on Thursday who was the better team as they swept the Blue Jays to move on to the District Championship (25-16 25-9 25-19).

Makayla Osborn shined as per usual as she finished with a double double. Her totals were 22 kills, 13 aces, and she added 3 aces. Emma Hall also has a nice day with 14 kills, 7 digs, and 5 aces. Lydia Wilson set up 37 assists. Jessica Brunk led the team in digs with 15.

Heartland advances to the district semifinals on Wednesday traveling to Wellsville. That match is set for 6:00.

OSBORN GETS 1000 IN HEARTLAND SWEEP

COLUMBIANA OH- Makayla Osborn tallied a career milestone Thursday with her 1,000th kill. The Lions uses her momentum to sweep Lordstown (25-10 25-11 25-9).

Osborn finished with 17 kills on the night to lead the Lions offense. That wasn’t all she did though, she racked on another career double double with 19 digs. She also served up an ace. Jessica Brunk was also in double digits with digs as she finished with 11.  Lydia Wilson was her normal self getting 31 assists.  Emma Hall also swung well finishing with 8 kills .

Heartland moves on to host McDonald on Monday.

OSBORN AND LIONS WRECK PALESTINE

COLUMBIANA OH- Makayla Osborn had an unbelievable night Wednesday as Heartland Christian took a four set match over East Palestine (24-26 25-17 25-22 25-18).

Osborn finished a stellar night with an eye popping double double totaling 28 kills, and 15 digs. She also served up 3 aces. Emma Hall also had a double with 19 digs, and 18 kills. Lydia Wilson was on point setting, as she collected 51 assists, along with 8 kills.  Jessica Brunk had a solid night too with 16 digs and 6 kills.

For East Palestine, it was Emily Berger leading the way with 10 kills. Morgan Cheurco finished with 18 assists. Mia Lee also has a nice night with 9 kills.

Heartland will look to continue their winning ways on Thursday as they host Lordstown.

Em East Palestine will look to get back on the right course as they travel to Lisbon on Thursday.

LIONS DEN NOT KIND TO WELLSVILLE

COLUMBIANA OH- Wellsville has made a habit this year of beating good teams. With wins over then undefeated Columbiana, and United the Tigers know how to play to their competition. That being said, Heartland is a tough place to play, too tough for the Tigers on Saturday as they fell in four sets to the Lions (25-18 16-25 25-18 25-22).

Makayla Osborn had a monster day collecting a double double. She finished with 17 kills, and 15 digs. She also had 2 aces and a block. Emma Hall has a triple double with 21 digs, 12 kills, and 11 aces.  Lydia Wilson was lights out setting the ball. She recorded 42 assists.

Heartland will carry their momentum into Monday when they host Lisbon. Wellsville will regroup and host Valley Christian on Tuesday.

DEVILS SHINE ON SENIOR NIGHT

BERLIN CENTER OH- It was senior night in Western Reserve, and the Devils honored 4 seniors. The Devils had a great game plan and executed it to a tee to earn a sweep of a tough Heartland Christian team (25-15 25-16 25-22).

The first set started as everyone expected this match to go, it was a back and forth competitive set. Until Reserve led 11-8, no team had a lead bigger than 2. But at that point the Devils took off and quickly grasped control over the set. Heartland was struggling to get into system and couldn’t be as aggressive as they wanted to be. Those struggles for Heartland continued into set two as Reserve dominated both of the first two sets.

The Lions really showed some fight to come out in the third set and grab a lead. Makayla Osborn served well for the Lions, at one point serving up 3 aces in a row to tie the set up at 6-6. However late in the set Reserve dug out a lot of strong attacks and simply outlasted the Lions in long rally’s. The Devils completed the sweep with a 25-22 victory in set three.

Dani Vuletich led the Devil’s attack with 10 kills. She also played great defense at the net with 4 blocks. Lisa Eichert had a strong night as well with 9 kills. Alyvia Hughes finished with 7. Gianna Paris gathered 16 assists on the night. Reserve did a good job having other players ready to set when Paris was taken out of the play.

Western Reserve will play their third game in three days on Thursday when they travel to Lowellville. Heartland will need to bounce back quick as they travel to Columbiana on Thursday.

HEARTLAND TROUNCES EAGLES

COLUMBIANA OH- Heartland Volleyball went on the road and got a sweep of Warren JFK to bring their record to 2-2.

Makayla Osborn went off for a double double with 23 kills, and 17 digs. She added a block. Emma Hall served her way to 8 aces. Jessica Brunk played great defense accumulating 15 digs. Lydia Wilson built on her Heartland career assist record with 35 on the night.

Heartland will return to action Saturday as they travel to undefeated United.

RANGE TAMES LIONS IN HOME OPENER

CANFIELD OH- Both South Range and Heartland are coming off of impressive seasons. Raiders coming off a district runner up, and the Lions were 20-4 last season. It promised to be a competitive match as both teams looked to gel into the new year. The Raiders took the match in four sets (25-20, 19-25, 25-22, 25-21).

The Raiders used an 8-0 rally to overcome an early deficit in set 1. Izzy Lamparty set the tone from the middle with 3 kills in the set.

Lions had the upper hand in set number two. They used some fantastic serving to get the Raiders consistently out of system. Makayla Osborn was a force to be reckoned with. She finished the day with 14 kills and the second set was her best.

The Raiders won set 3 and 4 in close competitive sets. They simply made the clutch plays down the stretch. They also got Maria Primavera into a rhythm as the match went on.

Primavera led the Raiders in kills with 8. Julie Blasko and Sarah Kuhn’s split 5 aces a piece to lead. Reagan Irons fathered 18 digs. Kuhn’s led the team in assists with 19. Izzy Lamparty was strong on the net tallying 5 blocks.

Osborn led the Lions in kills with a match-high 14. Emma Hall fathered 15 digs. Lydia Wilson led the team in assists with 21, and also aces with 8. Wilson broke the Heartland program record for career assists in the 2nd set.

Heartland (0-1) hosts Ursuline on Monday. South Range (1-0) starts league play at Niles.

Scheduling note, Saturday’s match was originally scheduled to be a tri match with East Liverpool, Heartland and South Range. The Raiders have kept their match with East Liverpool and will host them on Saturday September 12 at 11:00 AM.
