WEBSTER’S WORK ETHIC LEADS TO BIG GAINS

Ashtabula, OH- Jefferson Falcons junior running back and linebacker Matthew Webster has been named the Week 6 440 Sports Show Player of the Week, following a dominant performance in a 50-0 win over the Conneaut Spartans. Webster’s breakout game included 160 rushing yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns, showcasing his impact on both sides of the ball.

In an exclusive conversation with Sam Torres, Webster reflected on the key factors behind his stellar season. He emphasized the importance of his offseason work, including running track, which improved his speed and footwork, and wrestling, which enhanced his tackling ability and overall conditioning. A testament to his dedication in the weight room, Webster won the bench press trophy at the Ashtabula County Combine, completing 29 reps at 185 pounds.

Webster attributes his growth this year to Jefferson’s rigorous offseason lifting regimen and 7-on-7 competition, both of which have helped him fine-tune his skills. He also praised the team’s close-knit bond, explaining how team-building events, like bowling outings, have strengthened their chemistry. “It feels like a family,” Webster said, crediting head coach Brandon Hanna for creating a culture of hard work and togetherness within the program.

When it comes to leadership, Webster sets the tone by leading through action, giving his all on every play to set an example for his younger teammates. “I give 100% all the time so the underclassmen know what it takes to succeed,” Webster explained.

While Webster excels on both offense and defense, he made it clear that his priority is helping the team in any way possible, regardless of position. He reflected on the team’s recent victory over the previously undefeated Orange Lions, calling it a pivotal moment but remaining focused on the future. As Jefferson gears up for conference play, Webster is excited to compete against familiar rivals in the weeks ahead.
