LEAN ON PELINI

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – When you think of the Cardinal Mooney basketball program, one might recall some of the most dominant players in the Youngstown area suiting up for the Cardinals, others might think of the play style they have with their suffocating press, and some might think of the senior leadership that has always propelled Mooney to great playoff runs over the years. One such senior leader this season is someone that truly embodies the Cardinal Mooney way of excellence is Michael Pelini.

Michael is coming off back to back dominant playoff games this season. The first of those games was a district semi-final victory over LaBrae when he scored 35 points, the last point being his 1000th career point and then in the district championship game, Pelini hit a step back three pointer with 1.8 seconds left to propel Cardinal Mooney to a district championship and into the regional semi-finals.  Throughout the course of the season and playoff run, Pelini is averaging 16.8 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, had the opportunity to sit down with Michael via video chat this week to talk about the current playoff run Mooney is on, what the season has been like through the COVID pandemic, what Pelini wants out of the rest of this season, a rapid fire question session to see what makes Michael the player that his is, and much more!
