SPRINGFIELD PUTS A STOP TO RAMS UNDEFEATED SEASON

MINERAL RIDGE, OH- A good start in the first half is always important in football, but starting the second half strong is even more important for a team like Springfield. The Tigers traveled to Mineral Ridge to take on the unbeaten Rams Friday night. Not only was Springfield looking to hand Ridge their first loss, the Tigers were looking for their first win of the season. After trading shots, Springfield would eventually get the last shot with just seconds to go to take down Mineral Ridge, 20-12.

A low scoring first half with the Rams up 6-0 at the break changed courses in the second half thanks to the Tigers scoring early on a screen pass from Kolten Ruark to Seandelle Gardner to knot the game at 6.

Both teams traded blows in the second half as Mineral Ridge would regain the lead with a tough TD run by Nathan Rohrman. But that did not hurt Springfield at all. Late in the third, coach Guerriero decided to give Ruark and the screen pass another shot. Ruark quickly found Vincent Woods and Woods took it all the way in for six, which would tie the game up at 12.

Later in the fourth, the Rams would try to convert on 4th down but Springfield would not allow it. The Tigers got that momentum and roared right down the field and with just 22 seconds left, Ruark connected with Cade Cleghorn for Ruarks 3rd and the game-winning TD.

Springfield moves to 1-4 on the season and will back home to host McDonald Friday. Mineral Ridge moves to 4-1 and is set to host Western Reserve Friday.
