QUAKERS TAME THE LIONS

SALEM OH- The Quakers grabbed a big conference win on Tuesday with a sweep of Minerva (25-12 25-15 25-15).

Leading the Quakers offense was Kaley Davis with 7 kills. Zoie Reid also has a solid night swinging with 5 kills. The Quakers got seven combined aces from Morgan McGaffick (4) and Davis (3). McGaffick also led in assists with 10. Rylie Troy player great defense with 15 digs.

Salem will travel to Alliance on Thursday for another important conference match.

BEAVERS BOUNCE BACK WITH CONVINCING WIN OVER MINERVA

MINERVA, OH – The Beavers defeated the Minerva Lions 45-12 behind an offensive explosion in all aspects on Friday night. Their defense also improved as they did a much better job defending the run.

The Beavers’ defense forced a 3 and out to start the game, and their offense  didn’t take long to get on the board, as they took just 5 plays to drive about 60 yards and punch it into the endzone on a Tanner Johnston rushing TD. It was all Beavers the rest of the game as well, as their offense allowed under 5 first downs in the first half, and scored 31 points in the first 24 minutes of the ballgame. Ethan Lewis shook off his 4 INT performance last week to throw 3 touchdowns, 2 in the first half. The first was a 32 yard bomb to Dylan Moore on the second drive of the game. The other was a 7 yard back end zone throw to James Monte. His 3rd came in the third quarter with a 45 yard TD pass to Caleb White. The 4th TD in the first half was a Jacob Kane rushing TD on a first and goal towards the end of the first quarter. The final touch on the win was a rushing 35 yard rushing TD for Daniel Wirth in the final minutes of the third quarter.

The Beavers will now prepare for a tough test at home against rival East Liverpool. Pregame at 6:40, kickoff at 7:00 on YSN Beaver Local

SALEM OPENS UP CONFERENCE ACTION WITH WIN OVER MINERVA

MINERVA, OH-  Salem opened up in EBC action on the road against the Minerva Lions and beat them 3-0. For the Quakers, Kaylee Freeman had 4 aces, 9 assists, and two kills, Rylie Troy added 7 kills, 4 aces, Elly Exline added 7 kills and 13 digs while Jenna McClish had 32 digs. The Quakers will continue EBC play with Alliance at home on Thursday.

In JV play, Salem won 2-0. For the Quakers, Emma Hochadel had 13 assists, And Autumn Little and Hannah Bowers had 3 kills apiece. Both teams are now 4-0.

DEVILS HOLD ON AS MINERVA MAKES LATE RUN

MINERVA, OH- Lisbon got out to a six-run lead in the second inning and held on for a 7-6 victory over Minerva on Saturday. The Lions tallied six runs in the failed comeback. Luke KimbleAlex KimbleEvan HertleCole Maley, and Dom Slentz all picked up RBIs in the rally.

Lisbon got on the board in the first inning. Logan Bell tripled, driving in one run.  The Blue Devils continued and tallied three runs in the second inning. Lisbon’s big bats in the inning were led by singles by Nick Mundy and Garrett Cox and a double by Blake Reynolds.

Bell was credited with the victory for Lisbon. He surrendered zero runs on three hits over three innings, striking out eight and walking zero. Tyler Graham and Josh Entrikin entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Charlie Bolanz took the loss for Minerva. He went one and one-third innings, allowing five runs on four hits and striking out one.

Lisbon racked up ten hits in the game. MundyCox, and Tyler Toot each managed multiple hits. TootCox, and Mundy all had two hits to lead the team.

Slentz led Minerva with two hits in four at-bats.

SALEM GIRLS FALL TO MINERVA 4-2

SALEM, OH- Bailee Thorn scored both Salem runs and ended the game with 2 hits including a double. With Salem down 4-1 in the bottom of the 6th, Hayden Carner hit a ball off the left field fence. If not for the breeze blowing inward she would have tied the game at 4-4. Instead, Minerva made a great relay into the plate cutting down the second rbi in what ended up an RBI double and ended the rally. Elly Exline, Meg Rossero and Sara Castles had the other Quaker hits. Rylie Troy stole a base in the game.

Taylor Thorpe went the distance (7.0 IP) in the circle and struck out 14 taking her streak of double-digit strikeouts in a game to 5. Only 1 run was earned in the game. Thorpe’s battery mate Hayden Carner called a great game behind the dish as well.
